  1. They are all just shell companies in Martin Goodman’s publishing empire, detailed exhaustively in The Secret History of Marvel Comics by Blake Bell and Dr. Michael J. Vasallo. It’s worth a read and has lots of great, rare illustrations. http://www.fantagraphics.com/secrethistoryofmarvelcomics/
  2. I got that same message recently when relisting and listing some books on ebay, but I just clicked around it and was able to import pictures as usual. I haven’t seen that message anywhere else. I was able to post a few pics over in the Silver Forum a few hours ago with no issues.
  3. I have no actual info, but my gut reaction looking at them is that, although they're clearly using the Marvel versions of the characters, is that they're not authorized. Is there actually a marvel (or other related) copyright on them anywhere? And no guess on price, but these are not something I would actually want for myself- even if I find the post fascinating now that I've noticed it! Those are my thoughts exactly. They don't look like they were licensed from Marvel.
  4. What if they slap back? When they're slaped, they'll take it and like it!
  5. Don't think that would pull higher than a 2.0 with the detached cover. Is the lower left spine worn away and split?
  6. Put me in the same camp as BUTM. There's already 160 9.8 Ms. Marvel #1s in the census, and 115 Black Panther #1s. Not many Avengers #125, but I'd imagine that's because there's little demand rather than scarcity. After the hype dies down they won't go back to being dollar bin fodder as they were for years and years, but they're not going to be $1500 books. Just curious - why buy a Panther #1 rather than a Fantastic Four #52?
  7. Depends what your ultimate goal is. First and foremost, buy what you like. Are you buying one of these to sell down the road, and wondering what will appreciate the most?
  8. I got a nice, short-sleeve shirt and my son gave me this. I was very surprised!
  9. Now maybe if you sold the first CGC book on ebay, that'd be something to write home about.
  10. Isn't a ASM 129 CGC 8.5 a $1,000 book (per GPA) - so you sold your copy for 5% less then GPA and it was a deal? I took that sentence to mean the buyer felt he purchased the book at a reasonable price, and the seller was happy with the amount he received. They were both satisfied with the transaction, or deal.
  11. 1) Is there a color difference on the pages themselves or just the edges? For example, is there a 1/4" of tanning on the top and bottom of a page and only 1/8" on the side? If its just the outside edges, the difference could be the result of storage conditions but again, tough to say without the book in hand. 2) Measurement is not an accurate gauge. Variations between books in the very same print run are common, especially on 50-60s books, as are miscuts. 3) Squarebound books don't exhibit a classic V shape.
  12. Is that back cover chip just on the cover or does it affect interior pages as well?
  13. I almost never post about ebay, but on the day I do, there's the screen shot.
  14. Oh right, the question at hand. It's tough to detect without a book in hand but I don't see any obvious signs. Also a little tough to tell from those photos.
  15. Here’s one for your consideration: underhill_tab He won a $4 lot of 5 Marvel Team Ups on a Sunday night. He paid the next morning. The books were shipped at the post office about 3 hours after he paid. The following Sunday morning, 6 days later, he opened an case because he hadn’t received the books yet. He had accessed the tracking number linked to the ebay listing, checked the status and could see it was in the hands of the Post Office. He did not bother to contact me prior to opening a case and expected me to hurry the package along somehow. Multiple messages followed instructing me what to do over several days; maintaining my composure when responding was difficult to say the least. Even though I knew the books would eventually arrive, I was tempted to just refund him so I wouldn’t have to deal with it. The books did arrive and he closed the case and left positive feedback but it was just too much so I blocked him.
  16. I don't usually make "Hey! Look at this crazy auction!" posts, but I got a kick out of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tales-To-Astonish-35-1-Pg-CGC-Signed-SS-STAN-LEE-1st-costume-ORIGIN-of-Ant-Man-/391815970844?hash=item5b3a0d401c:g:09UAAOSw8GtZQU2y http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tales-To-Astonish-35-1-Pg-CGC-Signed-SS-STAN-LEE-1st-costume-ORIGIN-of-Ant-Man-/391815993580?hash=item5b3a0d98ec:g:FWsAAOSw8d5ZQVFA http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tales-To-Astonish-35-1-Pg-CGC-Signed-SS-STAN-LEE-1st-costume-ORIGIN-of-Ant-Man-/162553433437?hash=item25d8f08d5d:g:0L4AAOSwCkZZQUPQ http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tales-To-Astonish-35-1-Pg-CGC-Signed-SS-STAN-LEE-1st-costume-ORIGIN-of-Ant-Man-/391815914105?hash=item5b3a0c6279:g:9LgAAOSwceNZQTpd
