  1. Well, I prefer them in their natural state, but if you're going to slab those are fine choices! The Hulk #3 seems to be the odd man out though; what about another pre-hero or TGK #60 or RK #22? Something less common than the Hulk? Or if going for a superhero, a bigger book? On the TTA #13, is that chipping or a reflection? Looks like it presents nicely regardless and they seem to grade that book gently.
  2. I was going great guns for a while, only need 5 more for a run of 1-77, but haven't been buying much lately. I did upgrade my beater #7, but I don't have a scan.
  3. I'm still about 16 issues short of the whole run, but I just finished 1-10 of Tales of Suspense this past week. #1, 3, 5 and 7 came from other board members. Frankie will probably be working on his 1949 Timely run by the time I finish.
  4. It might be, but the 24 hour requirement is a bit extreme. I'm top rated and usually next day shipping is not a problem, but 2 months ago I was sick and had to ship on the second day. Guess what? Since the buyer had won 4 auctions, even though it was only one package that shipped "late," I got dinged for late shipping on 4 transactions. I don't do much volume, so if I can't get get my percentage back up in a few weeks, there goes my discount.
  5. Whoa! Lawrence can draw? Nice! I had no idea. My son wanted a Godzilla cake for his birthday this weekend. I drew something simple based on one of his Bandai figures and handed it over to the local bakery. I wasn't sure what the results would be, but it came out great, maybe the first cake I've ever been reluctant to cut.
  6. Here's some of the books I recently picked up on vacation.
  7. Those Tales of Justice are sweet! Here's a book I picked up on vacation. (I heart finding books on vacation.) The post code fantasy stories can be deadly dull, but it has a cool Everett cover and its a short run to collect. This one doesn't seem to turn up too often these days.
  8. I still have all of my Aurora monster kits (as well as my Prehistoric Scenes). For our yard last Halloween my son and I painted a plywood Frankenstein based on James Barr’s box art. I hope to make at least another one this year.
  9. They closed yesterday, it takes awhile for completed auctions to show up... I see them now... wow! Yeah, I see them now too but the results look off to me. Assuming these are legit results (and to do so flies in the face of auction results for the same books from other sellers on ebay, or other auction or dealer sites), this guy either has some regular dedicated buyers unaware of FMV or the same two nincompoops stumbled upon his auctions at the same time and got into a bidding war.
  10. If I'm looking for something specific that's on my want list, then I'm going to sale right past mystery box listings. I get it that some people like gambling on the mystery, especially when the seller has done good MB sales in the past but If I don't know what I'm buying, it's a complete pass. I'm sure I'm not the only one. You're not. To me it would be like throwing money out the window in the hopes it would all blow back in.
  11. Got an upgrade for my TTA #62, though I'll be keeping both; have had the undercopy since the 70s. The overhang looks much worse in the scan than in hand. The miscut is a bit bothersome, but its such a nice copy otherwise I can live with it.
  12. I can imagine how it must be to have a hole in your want list suddenly go thru the roof. I feel for any pre-hero collectors who now have to climb that mountain! Practically given up getting a copy of TTA 13 and Mystery Tales 40 in an acceptable grade (VG and up) - it'll take time for me to adjust to the crazy prices those two books are fetching. I have given up on the TTA #13. I've never owned a copy and simply won't pay the prices that it now apparently commands. I'll sleep better at night having that hole in my run than I would if I paid 4 figures for a copy. I’d be surprised if we don’t see a correction on TTA #13 after the movie comes out. Even if GOTG is a hit, sustaining the current pricing level would be bizarre; that book is commanding numbers practically equal to long established, blue chip major character first appearances.
  13. Since we're only supposed to list comic-related items, it doesn't belong, though since it has now sold that's a moot point. My personal feeling is that it is a foul, completely tasteless item that I would have nothing to do with.
  14. I genuinely believe it's the latter. Yeah I agree. People don't care about most Marvel Westerns. Most just wanna chase the next movie hyped super hero comics. Two Gun Kid #60 and Rawhide Kid #17 should be mentioned in the same breath as Amazing #1 and FF #1. I'll buy that! Especially since I have them all! To be fair, I don't think they have quite the same significance but they're as enjoyable as any other early Lee/Kirby SA Marvel.
  15. For me the link goes to a 6.5 DD #1 on Clink that's about $1200 over 12 month GPA with a few hours left to go on the bidding. I would consider that aggressive bidding as well.
  16. Unfortunately, that 1% seems to keep growing. Like late last year when that scammer showed up that went back through our sales history, copied old book links, and then pretended those books were his. Because they were underpriced, folks were jumping within minutes to post the TAKE IT before even checking why all the photos were taken on different backgrounds and lighting. slickrickcomics - not that the name was a warning Uhmmmm - anyone notice that book is owned by a board member? I disagree...we have 80 zillion threads about bad eBay experiences and bad board experiences...why? Because when people get upset they complain. When people are happy, they smile, and they go on their merry way because they expected to be happy. Check the Kudos thread, there are lots of nice things there. I have said this again and again...you have to be prudent when you buy something. Do your homework, don't just grab a bargain. Yes, there are bad actors, but a lot of the kvetching on these boards are repeats. The same issue being dragged up over and over again by the same people. We need a little more cup half full thinking, rather than it's not only HALF empty, it tipped over last week and woe is me. This x 1,000. If folks bought a little more carefully we'd have a lot less tsuris.
  17. Channeling previously banned members is a wonderful strategy. Keep up the good work. It's Deja Vu all over again;) If he orders the Creme Brulee, and grows out his bangs, I'm calling shenanigans. And Bellman?

  19. I think this was the first romance book I bought. If not, it's the first one I remember buying.
  20. I'm with Jeffro. In fact, I'm so selfish that if I lived in SF I'd recommend selling them in one shot to me in person.
