  1. It does look like some spores have started to spread. carefully wipe over it with a clean tissue. Check to see if any "black" comes off.
  2. This is the correct answer. Each book is really on a cases by case basis. Spine splits are a grade killer. A scan of the book would be the best way to get an accurate answer to your question.
  3. It’s a case by case basis. My experience with these types of books lends me to believe this can be almost eliminated.
  4. Let’s just say there are important talks about this going on at CGC. While I agree some of these cases may be based on inexperienced graders, not all of them are. Historically, when a book was being considered as cleaned by water or chemical bath more experienced graders were called in to review it.
  5. Why would they? They are getting on-site pricing in-house these days.
  6. You have to factor in the signings. CGC now gets a few bucks more per book for every signing they promote. The amount of moderns they receive through their SS program would surprise all of us. How many SS facilitators have their wagon hitched to CGC’s horse? They can’t stop submitting. Their livelihoods are built around a very fragile and fluid model.
  7. That is an excellent question. I have been able to pick up certain telltale signs of chemical cleaning and water baths. I let my customers know my thoughts on the books and submit based on what they want to do going forward. Chemical and water baths are not that common, but I see where that will change based on YouTube trends. What I am seeing more and more of is poor press jobs. This has to do with a lot of dealers now pressing their own books. I’m sure they hire someone out at $20 an hour just to squash books and it shows. Some of these books are not just poorly pressed, they are damaged beyond repair.
  8. I have submitted many books under my account. I never received a conserved or restored grade based on dry cleaning.
