Do you have the second (Romita) Spider-Man?  If so, I’ll take it.

Not trying to degrade the seller or buyer,  but this signature reflects all that was wrong with Stan Lee in his final year of life.  Sad to see this expressed here.

Oh wow!  Never noticed that before!  Ditko’s signature is somewhat worked into the drawing itself, unlike Romita.  

I was looking at some of my favorite ASM Romita covers the other day, and I realized Romita didn't sign his name on a cover until 24 issues into his run with ASM 62.    He didn't even sign the classic ASM 50!  In fact, I am wondering is ASM 62 is the very first artist signature to appear on a Spidey comic as I don't think Ditko ever signed a cover either.  Oddly enough, Romita's signature again disappears before showing up a bit more regularly with the classic Mysterio cover to ASM 66, but even then it is sporadic in the run.

Does anyone know the story behind cover signatures? I wonder who was the first to start doing this and when it finally became a cover staple?

The 12th edition of "The Collector's Handbook" was provided to me (unsolicited and free of charge) by Heritage Auctions after a recent comic book purchase.

I was quite surprised to see the following official storage recommendations:

1)  Maintain a temperature of 50-65 degrees(F). 

2)  40-60% relative humidity is important.

I wonder if these recommended conditions (at least in temperature) have a bit of flexibility if the books are graded?  I'm guessing not.  I would venture a guess that the majority of us do not keep our houses at 65 degrees or cooler and I also don't actively track the humidity levels in my house.  I've always been most concerned about UV light hitting the books and assumed that if I was comfortable with the temperature/humidity levels in my house, the books would be okay.

I think sometimes the insurance people get inside our heads. You should take reasonable care of the collection, and use your premium money for something else besides sponsoring your insurance salesman's greens fees.

Comicdonna’s answer.  I used to work homeowners claims for State Farm and I remember a ‘special limit’ on things like jewelry and collectibles (stamps, coins, comics, etc.) at or around $1000 for the lot, not even individually.   So while I’d love to live in a world where $16,000 in comic value is little, it’s far more than any special limit coverage provided by any current insurance plan I have and the gap is not one I could quickly or easily make up in the event of a loss.  So for me, it’s worth the $125 or so they quoted me for the year.   

I’m not sure that a basic homeowners or renters policy covers collections like these.  If they do, I imagine they are subject to pretty small limits.  

I thought I was get a separate policy on my relatively small comic collection (valued around $16,000)

I tried to go through State Farm for a personal articles policy, but they won’t accept GPA as an ‘appraisal’ and are giving me a difficult time in trying to document the collection despite pictures and CGC grading.

Has anyone had any better luck with a particular company or service?

Cool, about what I was going to guess, but wasn't sure with a possible upgrade due to a good press.

I decided to sell for $150, which according to GPA is below the current price point for this grade.

I forgot I owned this and recently found it at my parents house.  Not in the best condition, but certainly not had for a newsstand copy and having had it since I was a kid and read it a few times.  Somehow, I even kept the tattoos intact.

One caveat:  I am NOT a professional comic book grade.  So I actually posted this in the "Can you Spare a Grade" forum to get a general consensus based on the images provided here.

My opinion is that it can certainly benefit from a press.  I see quite a bit of non-color breaking areas I tried to capture.  There may also be some staining on the back page that I don't think can be cleaned.  I honestly don't know what that is.
