  1. Final bump of the week!

50+ vendors (mix of bigger dealers and private collectors), books from all eras (yes, including Golden Age), free parking, free admission, free wifi, A/C flowing, and best of all: STRICTLY COMICS! What more could you want in a comic show?

I'll personally have about 10 long boxes worth of books, including $1, $5, $10, and some individually priced. I'll be offering volume discounts all day, as I'm hoping to clear some space and set up a pressing station in my work space. The more books I clear the better!

If you do attend, please come by and say "Hi". My name is Aaron, and I'll be set-up as A-One's Comics. Hope to see you there!

Does anyone know how many times a week CGC picks USPS parcels? Mine was delivered and has been sitting in the Sarasota PO for two days waiting for pickup.(shrug)

Took mine about 2-3 business days to show up on my account after it was shown as "delivered to the PO box" on the USPS website. You'll be fine.

this is strange..sent in 26 comics ..broken up in two submissions ..I only thought each submission had to be 25 minimum..not also maximum

I've had this happen before too, not sure if its a shipping issue? Like they could only safely/securely fit 25 slabs per box?

I might check this out.  Wish it wasn't the holiday weekend, though.

Definitely knew this was going to be an obstacle for a lot of folks (had to tell my wife to not make any travel plans before I committed to setting up at the show), so I am anticipating a smaller turnout compared to the first event.

Regardless, all the vendors will still be there with books from all eras. Hope you can make it, and have a great holiday weekend either way!

You may not know this, but when you consign to mycomicshop, they list everything on ebay.

So you can sell on ebay, do the listings yourself, deal with nutjobs, and packing all the books, getting them shipped and deal with possible returns yourself or send one box to MCS,and collect checks.  MCS has a gazzilion ebay transactions and is one of the most trustred sellers in the hobby.  Do you think you,as a zero or low feedback new seller will be able to get the same dollars as they would?

By the way, ebay will keep more of your sales than MCS does. They charge higher commissions and extra fees.

Cave in and have more time and more money.

All of this. Highly recommend MCS to save you the time and headache that comes with ebay. As indicated above, you will deal with nutjobs. Comic collectors are extremely picky and particular about different things, and I count myself among this group. Save yourself the trouble and use MyComicShop.

Any  non key books won't come here then: not worth the aggravation. .I'll keep my key books coming here and maybe just keep those other books raw. .

made this same decision myself early 2021, though I'm still sitting on all a majority of these "key" books until I see some improvement. Recently shipped out 1x Express, 2x Standard, and 4x Economy FT after more than year of not submitting, will see how they do....

So the take away is everything Modern is performing ahead of schedule. And anything that isn’t modern is languishing like the condensation on the back of a toilet tank.

And despite this disparity, people are still quick to praise CGC for the good work.... lol

idea: if the organizers bump this show back 2 weeks to july 16th, they might get many of us who are fying into town for the now cancelled torpedo show. and some of the dealers who were going to set up there too!

Think it's a little too close for that, but I'll definitely forward that info to the organizers. I think they had a hard time as it is booking a weekend at this particular community venue with an already busy Con schedule here in So Cal (specifically SDCC and Torpedo). Though now that Torpedo is not happening, it might've made it easier. Also think that all vendor spaces are full (last I checked, 50 vendors/private collectors with at least one table space, not counting those that might've gotten more than once space); so even if it was moved, might not have free space for some of those dealers that would have otherwise set-up at Torpedo.

I appreciate that feedback, I know the organizers worked really hard getting a date in July at this venue as early as January/February.

I didn’t go to the Ontario show. Even though it was about an hour away. The dealer list just looked so slim. I just go to buy GA and my options looked pretty dim.

I've gone to the Ontario show every year it's been held (with the exception of the last/most recent one), and I think I've only every seen Golden Age books amongst one or two vendors for the first two years, seemed to have dipped down from there.

Major bummer about Torpedo. Just gets harder and harder to have good shows here in Southern California outside of the insanity that is SDCC.

  10. Bumping this up considering the next closest comic show in the area (Torpedo Collector's Con) being held on July 16-17 was "postponed".

As a collector myself, I cannot stress enough how great it is to have a strictly comic book show in the southern California area. If you don't want to deal with the massive scale of SDCC or the mark-up that comes with it, I highly encourage everyone to make plans to attend this show.

    @Aarrow108

Probably bad form to post this here. Your show is just before this one. You could be sucking money out of dealer’s pockets who might be traveling long distance to this show. You have started your own thread, probably best to pimp it there. Just saying…:gossip:

You know, I did hesitate making my post for that same reason. Though I ultimately viewed the thread topic as someone asking if this show was happening this year vs an official announcement for the show. I figured I’d just let any collectors in the area know what was going on. Point taken

And agree with the corner chip. I have seen some graders grade something like that as a 9.8 and others a 9.6.

As someone who cares not about whether a book is 9.6 or 9.8, I am unaffected. But many are.

This. I'm frequently asked whether I think modern books that have this corner chip can still hit a 9.8.... I usually respond with "send it to CGC and find out?" lol

From my experience, I've gotten books back as a 9.8 with either a very small tic that just barely bleeds onto the front cover or the corner ship on the top/bottom of the spine. So to OP's question: it can still be a 9.8.

It was a great show ..lots of people and books ..from modern to gold ..very easy parking and free!

Thank you for providing that feedback! From my perspective as a vendor for the first show, the foot traffic was GREAT! I genuinely didn't have a moment to sit down until about an hour before the advertised end time of the show (and even then I still had a few people digging well past 3pm).

Free parking and free entry = more money for comic books!

Thanks for posting. I’m local and never heard of this show. I plan to be there and check it out.

Very glad to read this! My hope was to make sure we spread the word beyond just social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook, as I know there are still many traditional comic collectors that don't regularly use these. Please feel free to spread the word amongst other collectors you know, and let me know if you have any other questions I might be able to help with.

EXTENSIVE grading notes on some beat up books. One example:

Wow... this is the ultimate example of redundancy and waste. If the spine is "96% split" why would they bother indicating 3 specific areas on the spine that were split lol . Nice to know where the graders choose to inconsistently allocate their time... guess their still working on creating "Standard Work" with those efficiency experts?

I have older moderns that I want to send in but I would like them pressed. I could always use a third party but sending right to the source cuts down on shipping. .

some of the third-party's will ship it directly to CGC for you. some also give you a volume discount if submitting in bulk. on top of that, you are directly supporting a small business/someone in the collectible community that will potentially give you visibility to some of their process (I say some because  some of them claim to use secret formulas), before/after pictures, and they'll get it all done in about 1/6 of the amount of time CCS takes... but sure, keep giving your money to CCS/CGC. rantrant

At least now while I am uploading my next submission to CGC I am now getting enjoyment of seeing YouTube videos of people uploading getting their invoices back from CCS/CGC where their CGC 6.5 Eternals #1 isn't worth what they thought it was when they submitted it after buying raw comics at 2020/2021 highs.

A lot of I "lost money" and "I thought this would great higher."

Seeing the defeat :wavingwhiteflag: in their eyes is beautiful.

(Greggy hitting the confused button in 3 2.....)

YOU LOVE TO SEE IT! I've been seeing a huge amount of lower grade bronze age books filling up ebay and Mercari... many of the descriptions say "presents much better than grade given/send for regrading/crack and press". Many Moon Knight books (the infamous black covers) with GLARING spine tics and creases that no one in their right mind should ever sent for grading.

  19. Although they advertise first in/first out, there have been numerous reports of this occurring lately. People have modern submissions received or sitting in Scheduled for Grading since June, yet their more recent submission are turned around in a matter of one or two days.

While it's great they found a way to do things quicker, its a big "F-You" to everyone that's been waiting for months now....
