  1. Well put,..... I would like to add that I'm old enough to have lived and worked during the late 70's and early 80's in the convenience & grocery store industry so I saw first hand "with thy own eyes" how newsstands were treated. I worked at over 30 different stores with different delivery drivers and they all treated their Magazines and Comics the same...... like spoon. They were for reading, not collecting. Very few of the comics they delivered were strict NM, 90% were vf/nm 9.0 or worse. This is why newsstands in strict NM/M 9.6/9.8 are so rare compared to their direct counterparts.
  2. Before Spring of 82 (Bronze Age) I'm o.k. with either newsstand or fat diamond directs but after that date..........I have NO INTEREST in direct Marvel/DC comics. If it's just a newsstand then it has to be 9.8. If it's a double variant (CPV, Mark Jewelers or APV) then I'll go as low as 9.4 for a MJ, 9.0 for a CPV and 8.5 for an APV. The only exception to that rule is for McFarlane Spiderman & Hulk. For those I'm o.k. with 9.6 Newsies.
  3. Latest Clink auction win: I put in what I considered to be a lowball bid and won, probably due to the mis-wrap, but it's still a 9.8.
  4. Just scored this beauty at a 35% discount from pandemic prices.
  5. O.K. Enough engaging with the troll. Back to the thread:
  6. Your facts will be proven wrong over time and the fact that you act like an arrogant d-bag just shows how scared you really are.
  7. Biznatch Please, I don't need your acceptance, I've got GPA and other sales info on my side. I'm sure you will come up with some lame excuse that the buyers are ignorant, uniformed and only buying the hype. Because, after all, it's your SOP.
  8. Most people come on these boards to share information, ideas and post pics of books they have seen/purchased. However your standard operating procedure is to proclaim your opinions as fact and then attack, demean and insult anyone who disagrees. If your goal is to be viewed as a more arrogant, less informed version of Joe Collector, you're doing a great job.
  9. Your both right in a jacked-up sort of way. You are correct that newsstands were produced at a higher rate than directs til the mid 80's, so yes, direct copies of DD #168 may actually be more rare overall. The 2nd part that makes this question more complex is that newsstands were handled like magazines while direct copies were handled like collectibles. Add in the fact that non-sold newsstands were most likely pulped and you end up with something like: In grades below 9.0 the ratio is probably close to 1:1 till 1983 to 1985, after that direct copies quickly soaked up 70 to 80 percent of the market. (speaking in general so please don't break out the electron microscope) In the uber-high grades (9.6/9.8) the ratio can skew incredibly high, 38 to 1 newsstand to direct for 9.8 ASM #300. (In a thread somewhere on here) Amazing Spider-Man #300 - Direct and Newsstand (shoutout to @valiantman) I've been on these boards for almost 17 years and watched as this argument has raged louder and louder. I sense fear in the holders of large direct copy collections. Believe what you like but in 9.6/9.8, my money is on the newsstands.
  10. Hello all, I'm sitting here trying to process my good fortune. I just won (with an accepted best offer) a G.I. Joe #26 in 9.8 from one of the comic retailers on eBay. According to GPA, I bought it for the lowest price paid (less than $400) since May 2020. That's over 2 years and 22 sales. Oh, and those figures are for the Direct version of this book. Which this comic definitely IS NOT! I would like to thank CGC and the eBay retailer for both missing the fact that this is a Canadian Price Variant. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did (15 hours) considering the last recorded sale of this issue in 9.8 CPV was for 2K in May 2021. ........Yes,...babe yes,.........
  11. I use a thin belt & door knob after putting on my Batman costume.
  12. Yeah,.... that was mostly me being a . I've had an ache in my loins for this book in 9.8 for over a decade. I ALWAYS wind up the SECOND highest bidder. The winning bidder used poor bid strategy and allowed me to push the price into the stratosphere. The 3rd highest bidder got out at $500. So, if the winning bidder happens to be on here, Sorry. If it makes you feel any better, the price on this copy should shake loose a few more so I can pick one up on the cheap.
  13. Latest APV purchase on its way to my grubby little hands.
