  1. Please guys. If you want to continue talking about something that isn't probation related, please go to this thread: Are post counts important to you? Please.
  2. RMA, I would say that you shouldn't be able to add Dekuek to the PL as that was an eBay transaction. Still, interesting story and sad to read. Perhaps that book will still arrive some day.
  3. I've bought from and sold to greggy before. Other than the rash of PMs, he's easy to deal with. xoxo Andy
  4. Bought from Ken before. Excellent guy to deal with. Well packaged books and shipped in a timely manner. Many thanks, Ken! Andy
  5. Sold to Marc recently. Great transaction! Thanks bud! Andy
  6. E Gerber half-back peel test: In case it isn't clear from the picture, in hand both lines look identical. I didn't want you to feel left out, so here's the same test on a brand new BCW board: Thanks for doing that test, Mike. (thumbs u Andy
  7. You're giving the BCW rep way too much credit here. I can pretty much guarantee that you any archival product used by either the LoC or the National Archives is tested up the wazoo to ensure that it does what it's supposed to do - their goal is not to count pennes, but to ensure long-term preservation of anything they store (case in point: they spent $5 million building & designing the new display cases for the Constitution, Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights). Well, you might as well do the test he's suggesting. I mean, you've done so much work so far, this is just a quick little test. Let's see the results you find. (thumbs u Andy
  8. Boy, I wish I had a friend like that. Maybe I do....
  9. The guy that bought that $60 G.I. Combat 87 has agreed to sell it to me. For $60! Congrats!!! :whee:
  10. I'd say that a lot of the same books are circulating again and again. OFF 12 CGC 8.0 is one for sure. I'd say that there are many. Perhaps they came from Keith, then me, then eBay, then ComicLink. Around and around they go.
  11. I think that you would still have about 10-20 holes if you were to keep your criteria at 8.0 and up. That's just my @ss talking, mind you.
  12. Thanks for sharing, Mick. (thumbs u It's true that since Keith sold his collection that more high grade books came after that. A collection of this magnitude of high grade DC war had never been offered before (ttbomk), and collectors snatched them up creating all-time high prices for these. High prices brings more out more nice books from the woodwork, an that's exactly what had started happening. Great books were coming to market, not necessarily at great prices, but were available if you wanted them. I picked up many of Keith's books because I had no idea when I would see anything like that again. Andy
  13. Well, I suppose I can give my After Chris Pedrin's Big Five Information Guide came out (1993/94), I decided to seriously collect DC war books. Now I've always felt that you should buy the best that you can afford, so in this case, I was looking for VF or better comics, and concentrating on the earlier ones, but picking up the later ones as well, if I needed them. Although, the plan of attack was the right one, the early books were just not around in VF shape. I was buying one or two books a year. For me, that wasn't a lot of fun. I knew that many of the early issues were hard to find in any grade, so I dropped my standards right to the bottom. I was only going to go after books that I needed on my list and they could be in any condition, as long as the cover was attached. This way was a lot more fun. If I ended up finding a better copy down the road, great, I would just keep the lower grade copy in my seconds box. I was picking up books at an alarming rate, and yes, it can be expensive. I bought a lot off of eBay, and many at shows. Even with my new strategy, I found that some books were damned tough to find, even with my low criteria. Scarce in any grade. I am lucky, I have a very understanding wife. She knew I was buying these books and I had to keep reassuring her that I knew what I was doing. I was also on a limited budget, so I couldn't afford every copy that I came across. I still had to be strict with how I spread out my comic money. Before I knew it, I was getting very close to completion. It started with just under 200 issues left, then 100. Closer and closer I got, constantly crossing off books on my list and upgrading and keeping my undercopy as well. I ended up with about 15 long boxes of DC war. I hit my goal with Our Army At War #11. With all of my doubles, I decided to do it again. A little less than a year and a half later, I completed my second run. Star Spangled War Stories #5 was the last book that I needed for that set. Anyway, those are my experiences. It was a heck of a lot of fun and my advice would be to not give up. It's great to have a collecting goal and it's an amazing feeling once you accomplish it. For all crazy enough to try to complete this monumental run, you have my full support. (thumbs u Not monetary, mind you. Andy
