  1. I bought a Super Goof #61 in Fine for $1.00 and sold it for $500, and I bought an Uncle Scrooge #179 in VG for $1.00 and sold it for $400. There was another one that was in mid-grade that I bought for a buck and sold for just over $100. They were the rage 3 or so years ago, but they still do hold some popularity. I am not sure if the estimated number of copies available today is realistic or not, but these Whitmans are pretty tough. Andy
  2. Here's a couple that I have for the time being Road Runner #91 21st rarest Chip n Dale #68 not in the top 42, but a tough book nonetheless Andy
  3. Yup, I've got this one jotted down as the 37th rarest Whitman. Here's the list that comes from Doug Sulipa, in order of rarity (#1 being the toughest to find): 1. Woody Woodpecker #191 2. 4. Love that cover!! WoW! What books, Mick!! Andy
  5. Great books, guys!! Thanks for posting!
  6. I've got a beauty of this book as well, but not as nice as this one. All hail King Mick!
  7. Looks nice, Roy, but if you don't know what you're doing, you should stay away.
  8. How about scanning some Andy. I'd love to see if they're as nice as they seemed to be in the auction pics. I will have to do that, Jeff, but the better ones have already been sent off to CGC. There were a few nice Atlas ones that I haven't sent. I'll see what I can do when I get back home. Andy
  9. Thanks, but it's on the 5th. Ah. For some reason I thought it was the same as mine.
  10. Oh, and happy belated birthday, Andy (October).
  11. The seller is from my home town, which isn't particularly large. He may have more books, but he hasn't replied to my last email. The ones I got from him already I was extremely satisfied. I asked if he had any more and he gave me a heads up that more were being listed. These ones went for VERY HIGH prices, but could be very worth it. They were certainly worth the chance. You can see that raw DC war and graded DC war often fetch much different prices. If price is a big factor, which it is for nearly every collector, you may want to try to find the nice HG books raw. Easier said than done, mind you, but there's nothing stopping you from looking. (thumbs u I don't know why you'd want to collect these DC war books though, especially when Sgt. Fury is around in the grades you want. All kidding aside, they are a lot of fun to collect. The prices have been going up up up recently, that is the definite trend. Will that continue? Only time will tell. Andy
  12. I never mind hearing about books for sale。 Your post may have broken a rule, but I certainly don、t care。 Do it in Comics General and you、ll have 40 people on your hass。 Andy
  13. I should just stay here and ignore most of the rest of the board. I find myself getting worked up over nothing sometimes. I think I may follow your lead. Went to the Water Cooler more often than I had done in the past and I saw people defending terrorists and child molesters. But I guess that all depends on your definition of a terrorist. Ah, NVM, save it for the water cooler. (thumbs u
  14. "Gentlemen, you cant fight in here...its the WAR THREAD!"
  15. You're alright in my books, Roy. (thumbs u
  16. I wouldn't say it's difficult to put together a great collection of DC war books below 7.0. To me, a great collection doesn't necessarily have to consist of high grade books, not at all. A solid VG collection is great. A solid F collection is also great. A collection with mixed grades ranging from G to VF is great as well. I think we should go back to the roots and be happy with the comic books themselves. I know I have. I put together a run of the DC big five, with grades all over the place. To me, it was a great challenge and a whole lot of fun. I wasn't picky with the grades as some of these books proved to be difficult to find a copy in any grade. My collection wasn't necessarily high grade, but was it great? In my opinion, yes, it certainly was. Now, over time, people change. Maybe their focus changes, maybe their financial situation changes, and often their collection will change as well. In my case, I had reached my goal and I wanted to concentrate more on grade. I haven't forgotten about the basics, nor I don't think I ever will. I've just refined my collecting even more. The higher grade books are definitely out there, but many are deep in collections, and these books won't see the light of day for a long while. In the meantime, I'll have to be happy with the 7.0s and 7.5s that have recently come to auction. They are getting large dollars for these books right now, that's a given. Are these prices deserved? I'd say yes. These books are CGC graded and I believe that's why we are seeing big money for them right now. There is often a big difference between a graded copy and a raw copy. Just take a peek at who's selling it. A raw 7.0 will sell for nowhere near that amount. However, there's no guarantee that if another CGC 7.0 comes up for sale that we'll see similar results. DC war has been undervalued for far too long. The OSPG is semi-interesting, but pretty useless when helping with pricing these books. The prices being realised should be recorded, perhaps by GPA. This is the most accurate pricing guide on the market right now and it's unfortunate that CL isn't allowing GPA to datamine their info. I'm getting off topic now, but that should really be discussed further as well. Well, my post has bounced around a little more than I originally wanted, but my main point was "yes". Yes, you can have a great collection of books without going CGC 7.0 and up. Easily. Andy
  17. Those are some nice pickups, Richard. (thumbs u I found the following went for big bucks: OAAW 52 CGC 7.5 $475 OAAW 67 CGC 8.0 $550 OFF 32 CGC 7.5 $388 one of my favorite covers OFF 53 CGC 7.0 $450
  18. I picked up 7 books. The ones that I did win, I got at "fair" prices, I guess. Certainly a lot less than the previous lot. Andy
  19. I bid high, but obviously not high enough. I had already received two lots from this seller earlier and was very pleased with them. These last few lots looked much better and I was willing to go higher for them. Unfortunately, my pockets aren't that deep. The winner of those books is going to be ecstatic, I'm sure. (thumbs u Andy
