Grade is in: Weird Mysteries 4
scburdet replied to gadzukes's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
I'm giving this a GA 4.0. -
I leave it to those willing to search this thread for my original & other posts, but this Fear 23 is just back from CGC. The Fear run I bought +2 decades ago so far yielded the following graded MJs. The other issues were just regular editions. This in the running for the top cover from the Morbius Fears. Definitely one of the quirkier sets I have. #20 - 7.5 (a small BC stain away from grading closer to the other ones) #22 - 9.4 (signed by Ron Wilson) #23 - 9.0 #24 - 9.2 #26 - ungraded

PGM Fantastic Four Annual 6
scburdet replied to GawkHawk's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
The most noticeable defects aren't going to be improved by c&p, but it's still nice. 7.0/7.5 -
I could see this landing at 8.0/8.5. If it went to 9.0, it wouldn't be totally shocking for an early Marvel

Grade is in: Ghost Rider 1 (vol. 1, 1967)
scburdet replied to scburdet's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Now TBF, I think the photos make the defects look their worst, so it's not that surprising people came in low. The seller listed this as FN+ which seemed like (and was) total nonsense. However, I treated it like a 4.0/4.5 copy, so I think I did OK. -
Grade is in: Amazing Spider-Man 101

Another one I was praying to the CGC gods to get a 7.5. Didn't make it. I did feel a lot better seeing the ASM139 that I never bothered posting a PGM for. I'm including that photo to ease the slight 7.0 pain. -
Grade is in: Supernatural Thrillers 5

A small corner crunch away from something better, but I am so happy with this. I am such a Universal Monsters & Marvel Knock-Off Universal Monsters nerd. I have loved this cover since I discovered it existed. -
Grade is in: Giant Size Chillers 1 (1st Lilith)

People were a bit all over the map on this one. I think it comes out closer to the high end of the predictions though. I like the note "small tear breaks color". Doesn't a tear by definition break color? Love this book. Bought it graded at 4.5, so no complaints. Waiting for both UK reprints (large format) of this one to come back too for the Wonder Man trifecta.

Grade is in: Marvel Super Heroes 13
scburdet replied to scburdet's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Another one I hoped would squeak 1 grade better, but a little too many different things going on. Maybe the small tear was the difference between a 6.5 & 7.0. -

Grade is in: Conan 24 (1st Red Sonja cover)
scburdet replied to scburdet's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Thought we had a chance at exceeding everyone's guess on this one, but I'm guessing the stain on the BC (which no one, including me saw), sunk those chances. I'll have to inspect it closely to figure out where it is. 8.0 might be lucky for even a small stain based on my past experience. -
Grade is in: The Creature (Dell, 1964, 2nd print)
scburdet replied to scburdet's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Everyone was a little hard on this one too. I thought it looked a little better than the first print that I posted at the same time, so this makes sense. Sidenote, there are 3× more 1st prints than 2nds in the census. Wish we had print runs to know if the 2nd print was actually rarer.
