  1. I don't think you can get rid of the printer creases (not sure I'd even want to try). Book says 9.4 is the floor for a printers crease. I have a suspicion that there are enough that it could get a 9.2. 9.2/9.4
  2. my facilitator actually sent it back b/c he assumed they mislabeled it. I'm starting to tip toward crack & regrade (cheaper than buying a new one. I didn't pay much for this one in 1999/2000). I think they're reluctant to admit errors in grading judgement. If we'd gotten it sooner, it might have been cracked and sent to the Liefeld signing.
  3. I'm feeling a 7.5. I think the overall aesthetics might trump the couple of medium grade defects.
  4. 7.0/7.5 For calibration, see my 8.0, which I still don't understand how it didn't at least hit 9.0 (no noticeable color breaking creases). Authorized CGC handler was expecting 9.4.
  5. Light staining in the yellow box, or something else? Put me down for a 5.0 with an expectation to land higher b/c of my propensity to be to hard on the goldies.
  6. 8.0/8.5. Maybe 9.0 if the press is perfect. The spine ticks have color breaks. I'm also not convinced all the little bends & whatnot will completely press
  7. How long is the split? Hard for me to tell in the photo
  8. I might believe a 7.0 is an outside possibility if pressing take the indentions out. CGC is more forgiving of spine issues, plus the black background shows everything. It seems like the small press books also come out a grade higher than similar defects from one of the major companies.
  9. I think there's a dust/sun shadow on the BC top/left edges. Maybe some pressable bends. 8.0/8.5 max.
  10. By the CGC guide, a detached staple can still get to 5.0. It looks to me like a decent sized piece of the cover tore off as a result though. I'd expect no better than a 4.5 as a best-case scenario
  11. around 8.0/8.5 pressed to make the edges look crisper. The front corner crease keeps it with a VF ceiling
  12. I had 3.0 before seeing any other picks. Definitely would be lower if it was from more recent era
  13. I think this drops down to 7.0/7.5 probably the lower b/c of the corner; however, I think the comparable accumulated defects would result in a grade or 2 lower on a DC/Marvel from the same time period. This copy, at minimum, is more attractive than the one I bought. There just aren't that many copies on the market and even fewer that haven't been through the wringer. If you plan on selling....
  14. Backstory here is that I think this is the first professional comic art of Al Milgrom. I only own 2 other Charlton books and this one looks like it has a myriad of what appear to be defects from cheap production methods. Not shown are a couple of interior pages that have typical black ink blots from the printing process. The big things here are what look like a lot of off binding/cutting issues. It looks to me like the jagged edge of the paper used for the interior pages was so miswrapped that it didn't come close to the cutter. At first when I look at the inside of the back cover, I thought it could have been trimmed (can't imagine someone putting in the effort on a book like this), but I'm pretty sure that b/c the cover is so miswrapped that the ad got sliced really close to the border. If nothing else, this is an interesting case of how many corners were cut (pun intended) at Charlton to keep costs down.
  15. ink loss along the spine on the back cover. If that roll flattens out, around 9.2/9.4
  16. 8ish as is. Could go above 9 if the back can be cleaned.
  17. looks like maybe a light bend in the TRFC quadrant? IDK if that's a gripper hole alone the bottom of the back edge, but it does seem that there's some light staining in the same area, which probably means 7s.
  18. TRFC small crease, BRFC small chip, slight miscut. I think 8.0/8.5. Maybe 9.0 if you're very lucky
