  1. I would love them to keep with the legacy numbering, but it's clearly to milk a Thor 700, an ASM 800, the milestones for Daredevil and Avengers, wait a bit and then go back to #1's and return to original numbering for 900's.

Found this one awhile back. Its not super hard to find, but nobody selling it seems to identify it right. I thought this was an alternative Bagley Artwork variant. Ive seen it called Newsstand variant(See the Direct Edition on the front!), and a 2nd print. Anyone clear this up?

My recollection - and this is 20+ years ago - is that comic shops had the Bagley flat cover in addition to the grey and the white. However, Newsstands ONLY got the flat cover. I need to check if my copy has the "direct edition" or not (I definitely recall buying that cover at a newsstand). I think, in any event, the "newsstand variant" simply caught on as an identifier not that it was only available at newsstands.

  3. What would be your desirability rankings for the first 10 issues of ASM?

With ASM 1 being presumed most desirable, and perhaps ASM 8 or ASM 10 least desirable, I don't want to conduct a poll but am more interested in your thoughts why (thnx).

    1 - Iconic cover, #1 issue.

3 - Introduces either villain 1 or 1A for Spidey.

2 - Great cover, iconic villain, hard book to find in presentable shape due to red cover

4 - Another iconic villain's 1st. For whatever reason, my favorite early cover.

6 - Iconic villain's first, dropped because cover (to me) is dull.

9 - Great villain, great cover

10 - Eh cover, Enforcers irrelevant now, but were big deal for first 40 issues or so

7 - Second vulture...did we really need to see him again so soon? :-P

8 - Bumped because of the first Spidey - Torch interaction. meh issue otherwise.

5 - Way too early in a title's run for a filler issue. Such is life.

  4. How difficult are Amazing Spider-Man #430 and Amazing Spider-Man #431 to locate?

To locate? Not hard. There are always copies on eBay, at least.

To come across at a store? Hit and miss, probably not so easy.

To come across at a small show? Hit and miss, maybe not so easy.

To come across at a large convention? Probably not hard.

I have seen them in LCS's, but usually well over priced. I've seen them at cons, both large and small.

To me, the undeniably "hot" books from the late 90's / early 00's always seem to show up just usually at a eye-popping price. It's the random fill in the run copies that don't seem to show up as much.

For example. When I went in to fill in my ASM complete run vol. 2, #19 was fairly "common" in the wild (non-eBay edition) I had to take to eBay to find a vol. 2 #20. I'd guess it's because that was an easier retail return because of the 100 pager.

  5. The thing that makes WD, for me, different than the other independents it inevitably gets compared to simply by virtue of being a B&W image title is that WD stays on time. A lot of monthlys that started out hot and cooled really did so, at least in my opinion, due in large part to a very erratic shipping schedule.

Multimedia exposure, huge public pop-culture awareness, and an on-time schedule makes it an incredibly unique study.

  6. New purchase!! Woohoo!! I am in the club! I usually like to think my comics are better than the grade, but I fear this one may be slightly overgraded. I am ok with it, as its a great book, but its not as sharp as some of the other 5.0s out there. It is well centered, lays flat, and not a single cover crease other than a very light corner crease, but the spine has some significant wear, and even a few small tears. thoughts?

Great book. Uncommonly good centering of the front cover. That's a real beauty. :cloud9:

  7. What is the general consensus regarding the value of ASM #1 vs. FF #1?

I suspect if it hasn't already, ASM #1 may soon surpass FF #1.

Wanted to get the community's thoughts...

I don't think it's passed FF1, I'm not sure it's going to happen anytime in the near future.

  8. I'm pretty sure it's totally against the law to change the price at the register. And it only seems to happen at the great American LCS.

On another note, this is very similar to how some dealers at cons won't price ANYTHING, and then when you ask for a price they pull out their OPG or iPad to look it up. I will NEVER buy from anyone that does this. It is your responsibility to know the market, and to price your inventory. If you can't do that, then don't sell.

I have no problem with someone that has their prices on a separate document (after all, why make it easier for thieves to target a bigger dollar item). I don't like dealers that price nothing and then pull out a guide.

  9. I mean, if ASM 678 is consistently a $300 book why can't the Ditko cover (as a $7.99 1:200) double that?

It's a great cover. I'm rather bullish on its near-term potential.

Because it doesn't have a sexy Mary Jane as Venom on it. That cover is by far the best spider man cover I've ever seen IMO. I would f***king die if I owned the OA to that cover.....I'm a sucker for drawn girls..especially Mary Jane.....

I actually think it's a pretty terrible cover. I think if that's what's driving it, the 606 variants should be significantly more valuable.
