Hi - I am in the process of submitting a few comics for the upcoming Tyler Kirkham in house signing and I noticed the shipping price for 2 comics return shipping was $80. This was pretty shocking to me, it's usually around $25. My address hasn't changed so I was wondering if this is the new standard price for economy shipping or if I'm doing something wrong...?

Well, on the plus side, those pages from the grading guide at least suggest that the grade didn't come completely out of the grader's ***, agree or otherwise disagree as we might.
I would have said that was pretty "heavy" rust, and the paper migration looked pretty "significant" to me, though, sure, I guess it could have been even worse.
Yes it's a weird one for sure and why this contest is so fun. I agree with you and would call it significant (but I think any time it goes from staple to paper it would be significant). That said, with it only being the bottom staple, perhaps the "significant" designation is reserved for situations where both staples are presenting migration, or, as the guide notes, staple(s) are disintegrating.

I too was surprised by the SW 8 grade. I had it at 7.0.
I have the CGC grading guide and this is what it said regarding rusted staples and rust migration. I know there's the famous Action 1 with the rusty staples in 8.5 and I've seen slightly rusted staples in VF range grades, but I thought that rust migration would (1) put it at best in the F/VF category (and that book to me is otherwise 9.4/9.6) and (2) would warrant a graders note on the label that the rust had migrated to the centerfold. Frankly, if there was ever a situation for a "qualified" grade with a rusted staple, that book may be it. For reference, here are the applicable pages from the grading guide:

I bullseye (Next Men). 9 points total ouch.
Under graded Flash, under graded SW, other than that badly overshot the Spidey and Cap

Thank you!

Hi there - I have been trying to change my registry title for my Invincible complete run set. It has not allowed me to save the name and just gives me the generic unnamed set. It's associated with my submission account and the username tjs252, and despite going to "Edit Set" and changing the name and clicking the top save button, no changes will stay to the title.
The set name is currently Unnamed set - 168405
Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi guys
I enjoy the posts in these threads. The build up for the reveal, the reactions afterwards, all good. I have also noticed that there is very little bickering/arguments in these contests. I enjoy seeing that. The sole reason I do these are to provide fun contests for the members. If they no longer are fun, there is no point in doing them. In the last contest, the books were all golden age. This happened because we had to use a different source, and that was what was available. Some people found GA books to be very hard to grade, and requested later material. It seems that no GA books in this contest is causing some difficulty as well. Maybe half GA and the rest later books is the answer. I can make this happen. I can also request easier books. I think we can find a selection that will better satisfy the majority of participants.
Mike, I think it's all fun. It's comics, if it's not fun, you (not you, the collective you) are doing it wrong. I thank you sincerely for taking the time to put this together. It's fun, it's challenging and it presents new challenges even for experienced collectors. It also helps to see some of what I've read in the CGC grading guide in practice, rather than just basing grading of odd defects based on my own experience. It's not just fun for me, it's also a learning experience.
If I had one request, it would be that maybe there's an opportunity for discussion around some of the defects and the final grades (this current round as an example the Secret Wars 8 will be a great discussion book IMO).

Two bullseyes, Marvel Spotlight and Superman. 4 points total.

Hi there, I submitted some books for the Dan Slott / Humberto Ramos / Edgar Delgado in house private signing. I've received the Ramos / Delgado books back but the ones for / including Slott's signature are still pending. Any idea when that signing will occur? There's one book I submitted I was hoping to get back in time for the Micheline signing. Thank you!

Gosh that was a hard round. I think I changed my grades on the JLA and Superman at least three times.

2 bullseyes, 4 points total. Not a bad way to start.

I was the commenter that asked if it was restored with how it was packed / handled. Vinny responded that it was in a bigger box, didn't address the resto issue. We shall see. Impossible to tell from that far away, but the blue color appears to be different at June 1938 so wonder if there is some work done to it. Here's a screen capture I took

Grades in. They are all tough, but I found the Superman 75 especially tough. Transitioning sensibilities from HG Silver to Bronze to Modern.

That is a beauty.

Non color breaking stress on the back cover and the soft bottom corner of the spine. I would definitely press the book. I think it can press to a NM/NM+ 9.6

The Batman 1 purchased here on the boards from @Crowzilla arrived safe and sound and I am a very happy new owner. Thanks again, Sean!

Looking for a few signatures for creators who don't make regular appearances (like Murphy). Thanks in advance for all replies!

I see edge wear on all four corners, heavy spine wear and stress at both staples, but the cover appears to be attached at both staples. The store stamp and price stamp will also lower the grade and the loose marker going through the title.
Technically, I think this is a VG- but it presents nicer since the cover is in tact with no tears and the colors seem to be rich on the cover as well.

Beautiful colors on that one. Wow.

Couldn't agree more and we are on the "it's time to buy" side of the discussion and have recently added 6 new silver age books to the collection.
I agree. I have been buying a lot December to now. I generally think that, unless you're looking at this as a professional where inventory turnover matters, this downturn presents an opportunity and I'd rather be buying here than waiting for a further pullback. Generally speaking prices may go lower but this is as attractive a time to buy as any I can recall in the last 5 years.

in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?

Hard to grade from this angle and not laying flat. Looking at what is there you have general crinkling to the back cover that does not break color. That should press out. It looks like there's light soiling near the top staple back cover and also some scuffing bottom left back cover, neither of those would press out and I am unsure if they could be cleaned
Both corners of the spine look blunted and they break color. Pressing may sharpen them, but would not correct the defect entirely. The dog ear top right front cover looks to break color in parts and also not break color in parts. It would appear to be a significant (deep) crease / dog ear. My opinion is that a press would generally benefit. I am unsure if that would improve or not structurally/technically because of its depth, but it would improve eye appeal there.
My opinion is based on the scan this is VG/FN range. I think it's probably a 5.0 as is, I think it could improve to the FN range as the defects would be consistent with FN which is usually the average condition of a "used" comic book. The spine blunting, the dog ears consistent with reading (dog ears) are typical FN defects. Without a more detailed scan I'm personally unable to give you a better idea.
