  1. With the rounding of the edges to the cover, staple stress, and dog ear on the bottom front cover, I'd have it as a VF-.

I really don't know how the near complete tear would be treated. It's almost certainly not production, so it would be a pretty big hammer. I'd think it's most appropriately QUALIFIED so 7.5 (Q).

If I had to give it a technical grade, it would be in the GD - GD/VG range. The tear is too significant to call it "average" wear (FN range) so it'd have to drop to exceptionally worn, which is GD.

  2. Is it completely loose? Seems cover's detached and CF is popped.

If completely detached 1.0. If at least some of the wraps are attached, I can see a 1.5 on a good day.

IMO - as well worn as it is, without any major pieces missing, it's hard to see that getting a .5. Colors are still pretty good and pages look well preserved.

Cheers - yeah seems to be coming out around a 5.0 once pressed etc.  Do you think pro tidy of the spine with conservators adhesive would improve or spoil it..?  Just here and there if there are any tiny loose bits..?

Also does small neat name written inside affect it..?  I wouldn't think so on this lowish grade..?

Written name wouldn't. It'd be consistent with the grade. I wouldn't conserve this. Looks like it's all attached, just worn. It presents nicely for the technical grade, IMO.

  4. The heavy edge-wear to the spine makes it tough from the angles pictured to accurately grade. There appears to be heavy stress at the top staple.

Just sort of "expecting" the defects with heavy edge wear (while not necessarily being able to see it as you would looking straight on at the spine), I'd estimate this is in the VG range.

A press/clean would help, but there's too much color break along the spine for this to move up meaningfully. I'd think the ceiling is in the VG/FN / FN- range.

  5. I see edge wear to top of FC above the CCA stamp, and slight edge blunting to bottom of the spine. Looks very sharp otherwise. Would benefit from a press.

As is, 9.0/9.2. Would err lower because of the spine blunting. Could see this press to 9.2/9.4 but for the slight color break by the edge wear to the top of the FC.

  6. I count 6 spine ticks. You have stress on the staples and the reading curl on the spine. Bottom edge of the front cover is cut off in the photos, and there is no back cover scan. Hard to give an accurate grade. Hard to give an accurate grade. Everything there seems F/VF - VF range.
