  1. Trust might be too strong a term here They will take a long time, that's for sure. There is a ton of debate on the topic, as mentioned above. One of the questions I would wonder is whether it's worth it for a comic like this. That era of comics has a lot of high grade examples, and even in the best of grades, you're looking at a bit over $100 reliably. Given its lack of rarity and its age, do you want it enough to be worth it? Are you thinking about pressing because you really dig the cover and want a clean example? Or, are you thinking it will help the monetary value? If the latter, you might be better off saving the time and trouble and just buying a 9.6 or 9.8 already slabbed. If it's just for your own aesthetics, then yeah,CCS pressing through CGC should work. Get ready to wait, tho If one day you do go and sell it, it's a common courtesy to let the buyer know it has been pressed and cleaned, since that wont be in the grader notes. Not required, just a courtesy.
  2. There are some great threads on here already with suggestions so you might want to search the forum. I used Comic Doctor before, and I was really happy with the customer service and results. One thing to note about CCS pressing is there are a lot of threads about the wait time. From what I've seen it is VERY long.
  3. I got ya:) There's probably a niche fetish market for those 1950s haberdashers. Wowza
  4. Followed closely by "piece out, affects breast, INCUMPLETE"
  5. A slabbed Playboy sounds like the coup de grace from a passive aggressive wife. Or the nickname for a gigolo at a morgue. Can't decide, but feel kind of bad for the poor schlub who has to put the lights on it to check for resto
  6. I get that. It's poor customer service, not a crime. And it's, unfortunately, typical nowadays, not an aberration. You'll get your book. I know it sucks to wait, but all of us have been or are in the same plastic boat.
  7. Except "wait," apparently. Look, I know this is frustrating, but you're posting to a bunch of people who, as already noted in other replies, have waited 6 months, 9 months, a year... It sucks but it's not a personal vendetta against you by CGC or some great crime. It's just the (crappy) norm now.
  8. Those are just beautiful (especially the 9) and a great price, too. GLWTS!
  9. If I am understanding this correctly (which is a longshot, given the writing quality), you bought the book, tried to sell it (and as a seller, vouched for the grade and lack of resto) and then tried to press the seller for more info about restoration in hopes (?) of getting either reassurance or a refund. The problem is that you messaged the original seller from a second CGC forum account, which made the seller respond that he had never sold you the book. It sounds like this triggered some anxiety for you. As someone who has anxiety, I can completely understand how the response that he hadn't sold you the book may have triggered that. But you overreacted in a big way, by filing the PayPal claim. I get the anxiety. But that doesn't justify what you did, which was dishonest and harmful to the original seller. To me, that is HOS worthy. And would, in my book, land you on the blocked eBay list. I hope you get the help you need. Honestly. Your writing seems to indicate that you are having trouble organizing your thoughts. Maybe now is not the best time to be dealing in $1000+ transactions?
  10. Better to rule in Hell, I guess? Beautiful copy!
  11. Agreed that it's frustrating, but "doing their job" can also mean paying out the insurance when something goes awry. Not the end you or anyone would hope to see, but that's what insurance is for, isn't it?
  12. Sorry this happened to you. I know others have mentioned this, but shipping these days with any carrier can be super frustrating. I bought a book from a reputable dealer, shipped USPS, and waited weeks for it. They shipped it fine, I followed the tracking, and at various points, it would be "in transit" for a week, then back to the same warehouse to sit for another two weeks. Eventually, I got it. Not fun, but it all worked out in the end. I hope the same thing happens for you. On the other hand, it seems that you are, perhaps rightfully so, pretty angry. If your phone conversations with CGC or UPS are as angry, I hate to say it, but that might be incentivizing them to just draw the line and make you take the money. They may not want to put much energy into it. (Just my opinion, having been on the other side, having to talk with irate customers. Not making a judgment about how you have been or how you ought to be.) I hope you get your book or get made whole.
  13. I disagree, too, I think. It depends what you mean by "participate." I am one of those members without 100+ posts, since I normally don't post a lot (this thread being an exception obvs.) But even being a relative noob, I've made several purchases of what were, for me, fairly big books. It would be a shame if those transactions were precluded merely because of post count. On the other hand, I would also have understood if one of those sellers had said, "hey, you're too new, I need some verification." Maybe that gets added to the seller's rules. Fortunately, in my case, they trusted me, and we all walked away happy. But to not even have the chance, that would be disappointing. If you mean as a seller, instead of post count, maybe a thread over in kudos ought to be required. (I started one solely because I am newer and was thinking about selling here and just assumed some buyers might want more info.)
  14. These are great to see. Of course, with some titles, I'd settle for a time machine that would take me back to the early posts in the FS forum on the boards. Those are fun to go back through now.
  15. With his clever blend of timely acronyms and invective, his subtle moral-economic critique...he held such promise, too.
  16. Hey now, pieces of paper with drawings on them are really great sometimes! For example, grammar and spelling books with illustrations can be quite helpful when you are first getting started.
  17. If we've had a positive transaction, please leave feedback here. Thanks!
  18. This is really intriguing! There's something kind of compelling about focusing in on these little details of the cover. Obviously, there's the art of the cover as a whole, but in collecting GA, there are stylistic details that are the most eye-catching to me: the month, year dating on the early DCs, the numbering on pre-99 Actions and on the Superman covers when the number is encircled, and the big banner titles. For some reason, the books that have those early elements just stand out to me more, like there's an authenticity and nostalgia to them that later GA books don't have for me. So focusing in on this inside a slab is really quite cool, like seeing old art through the lens of modern or pop art. Thanks for sharing this!
