  1. That one is on my short list for wants, such a great cover. Nice copy!
  2. This probably goes without saying, but if you are buying raw copies on eBay and such, watch for missing wraps and centerfolds. Ran into that problem before. Also, any kind of mold.
  3. Terrified in a red dress to terrified in a red dress
  4. Very cool cover! I love the CGC comments on Single Series issues...so straightforward
  5. Thanks! When I started collecting, the first comic I put in my little plastic box of comics was Heathcliff's Funhouse #1. Still got it. And still waiting for that price bubble to hit
  6. There have already been some really helpful responses (and some perhaps not helpful, but very entertaining responses, even though the humor was at your expense.) I am more of a lurker than a poster on the forums, but I have submitted quite a few times to CGC. What I learned quickly early on in submitting was that I was pretty accurate at eyeballing mid-grades (5.0-7.0) and lower grades (like a 2.0 vs. a 3.0). But when it comes to the higher grades, determining 8.5 vs. 9.0 or the finer points of the decimals above 9.0 can take a lot of time, skill, and careful attention - much more than just eye appeal or the care you took while storing it. Spend some time on the boards digging around. There's a wealth of wisdom shared in other forums about grading, especially the "spare a grade" forum that others have mentioned. And lighten up a bit This is a pretty welcoming place to hang.
  7. That is so surreal seeing that rendition of the cover. Was that kind of cover adjustment common for Canadian/UK distribution during the war years? I guess I never thought about what other countries would do with US-based war propaganda comics. (Asking this realizing that the war would have been over by the time this got around.)
  8. When you think about what that $$ will get you right now in SA books, I'd say you got the most of out the money I only have one of the Shocks (14), but I feel like this is a title that doesn't get as much love as it deserves compared to the CSS and TFTC. That's great on being so close to getting the run! Maybe this is the year for the last two!
  9. That cover is seriously effed up, and I don't mean the condition So gross It's a new one to me; thanks for sharing!
  10. Well, I submitted two through my LCS in October, including CCS pre-screening for one, and still waiting on both. So it could be a bit.
  11. Daanngg...From Belle with a match to the poor cat screaming, that might be the most horrifying two panels I've ever seen GLWTS!
  12. So cool. The covers on this run are fantastic. But, geez, getting shot AND falling off a balcony?? Feeling kind of bad for the gangster there
  13. Yep. I've been trying to put together a set of the ones used in the report. For some reason, CGC doesn't note it for the Frisco Mary story here, but it's in there.
  14. Not super-recent pick ups, but finally getting these scanned and up in frames for my office:)
  15. That's a nice-looking 4.5! Those colors really pop
  16. Thanks for your thoughts on this! Looks like we're coalescing around a 3.0 or so, with notations. I'd like to find the reader who tore off those pieces and tried reattaching them
