  1. Geez, another great book I nominate CentaurMan as off to "The Best Start of 2007". STEVE
  2. Ah, you finally pulled the trigger Win - all I can say is STEVE
  3. Mega-tough choice, adam...it's a 50-50 push for me on this pair. STEVE
  4. And of course, the Tarpe Mills story (it is very cool) mentioned by RyanH: Opening splash... And another interior page I really like... STEVE
  5. Did someone mention A-Man 6? I know I've a few of those laying around somewhere.....ah, here's one:
  6. A very nice presenting VG, bat_fan (I've known Redbeard for two decades and he's just as terrific as you say). STEVE
  7. Ray, your wife buys you uber-cool GA comics for Xmas (and they happen to be 2 GREAT Centaurs!)....wow. The books are terrific, but she's the real gem... STEVE
  8. Michael, thank you for that! Looks like Ms. Mills engaged in some self-portrait drawings (hubba, hubba). STEVE
  9. Amen to that, brother. KDF 2/7 is a very scarce book, and truly undervalued IMHO. This is the New Hampshire copy - very slight resto (c/t to bottom corner nicks) but blazing colors and pure white pages. A great book, Centaur or otherwise... STEVE
  10. Right - FP 3/9 is a signed Tarpe Mills cover. I'd LOVE to see an actual picture of what she looked like. 'Tis true - and a lot of people don't realize that Claire Moe, another artist who worked with Centaur, was a man. STEVE
  11. Actually, Jon Linton started a year ealier in AMF 2/11 (as noted in Overstreet). I don't own a Wham #1, but it may be a reprint of the first story I don't know. When the Guide says "begins", as it does with Wham #1, it can simply mean the first appearance in that particular title (though as a first issue, that should be rather obvious). STEVE
  12. Welcome to the Golden Age, MD! And please, feel free to bring her to the party anytime STEVE
  13. Great....ciorac is collecting Centaurs (now we're in big trouble!). Not that unusual really for the later Centaur stories to be under another artist's helm (I see the Air Man story is still by Sahle, but Air Man appeared late in the game as well). The Masked Marvel story is not by Ben Thompson, either. IIRC, even the Arrow comics have a non-Gustavson lead story (the other Gustavson stories are reprints from Funny Pages). As things started to unravel for Centaur in mid/late 1940, they utilized other artists to carry on till the end. As ciorac so ably demonstrated, they are still cool books however STEVE
  14. Why funny you should ask, lou... Hey, I resemble that remark, Mr. H.!! I do believe the A-Man 5 cover is by Everett. The 6 cover is very captivating IMHO, and is one of my favorites. I'm obviously a huge Centaur fan, and I think A-Man 5 is a great book (wish I owned one) - even more desirable than the AMF 1 - but I'd simply rather put that kind of big money elsewhere...and you're talking to the guy who used to own the Church run of A-Man 6 thru 11 (I still have the 6, 10, and 11. FYI, the 7 was color touched on the spine). STEVE
  15. I have to agree (and was just going to post the same thing). Very, very tough book in grade - and difficult to find at all unrestored - but oh man that price range just makes me cringe. I'm perfectly happy with the A-Man 6 (which does retell our hero's origin...) STEVE
  16. Very interested, thanks for the info NR. Imagine a cross between Bernard (Spectre) Baily and Basil (Spacehawk) Wolverton, and you'd approximate a Fletcher Hanks story. STEVE
  17. I did check my copy of Jungle 19, and the Fantomah story is not by Fletcher Hanks. Unfortunately, I don't have a Jungle 18. STEVE
  18. Years ago I was offered that book but turned it down (sight unseen) because I already had a nice copy. Seeing this lovely scan I now wish I had been a greedy SOB and picked it up! Maybe you'll consider selling your dupe to RyanH and get him off my back A seriously fabulous book CM, and a great way to end the year STEVE
  19. Nice variety of books there, innocuous. The two that stick out for me are the Movie Comics 1 (a very cool and underrated book IMHO) and the pre-hero More Fun. Good luck on your continued hunt in 2007! STEVE
  20. All I can say Ryan is that is quite an accomplishment (something I have never been able to do)! Your diligence and dedication in putting that set together really paid off. Congrat's.. STEVE
  21. Geez CentaurMan, you're on fire today... Great book, reminds me of the VF white paged copy I had picked up at Collectors Bookstore in Hollywood many moons ago. It's long gone, but the memory of the book and of Collectors (they always treated me very well there - if only they were still around today!) still remains. STEVE
  22. I have never seen that book - early Clock! STEVE
  23. Way to go, buttock! Now you need to find a KDF 20 (not Norrin Radd's "Lasik" copy...very funny btw, NR ). What did you think of the interior story in the KDF18? (the Eye Sees deals death by blowing up the main bad guy after he has poisoned his associates, covering their corpses with a sheet) STEVE
  24. Yes it is, Ryan - adamstrange has one of the best set of Eyes in the hobby and he Sees the best qualities in the best books. I've been off celebrating my 20th Wedding Anniversary (hubba, hubba) and getting ready for Xmas, but here's a group shot (sorry for the flash burn) I wanted to share again (ported over the Martin Nodell RIP thread). Happy Holidays to one and all! STEVE
  25. Thank you for the posts bat_fan, steel, and Bill, and others - much appreciated. FYI, West at CGC has just notified me that the Adventure 60 I sincerely believed had some minor resto (gloss and seal) was resubmitted and came back Blue. I believe in full disclosure whether I'm right or I'm wrong, and in this particular instance, CGC says I was in error. My apologies to Dave for including this book in the rest of the discussion. STEVE
