  1. that is not the point or the position i take or espoused. i need nothing from you in the way of proof you are just being andrew. i understand.
  2. i have explained why, and answered all questions asking why. i did not ask the questions. other members asked the questions or commented and i replied, as i should. i understand you may not agree. your post gave me an impression that maybe you were offended. i appreciate that you are not. i have stated my personal solution in future voting matters concerning pl and hos nominations. i will not vote, but reserve a member prerogative of stating an opinion.
  3. apparently not all "get it". if members/peer voters question my vote and the explanation, i will of course answer as best and as openly and as truthfully as i can. is this offensive to you personally? that seems like an odd objection, but i understand.
  4. i think you may have misinterpreted my position, but that is ok. the point of a jury panel is not "voting based on facts". it is indeed based on the prospective juror belief. you need not accept my position. the hope is not in my heart. it is in my brain. you quoted my earlier comment. does it not clearly state my position based on the facts presented in the thread? i think you may not quite understand my position concerning peer voting and the philosophy of hope. i have a personal solution, and that is i will refrain from any actual vote in similar situations, and reserve the member prerogative of offering my opinion. this should satisfy any objections to my "voting" with explanation. a slight difference with your opinion of time table.....a yes vote in the poll is indeed guilt and punishment determination simultaneously. would any voting peers have considered pl in lieu of hos if given the choice? i do not know. however, the choice was not given. it is finite- a yes vote = hos. that is guilt and punishment simultaneously.
  5. parent, sibling, peer and neighbor influence at a young age is the trigger. the more susceptible (ocd as an example) the stronger the influence. in teen years, the waxing and waning is directly related to available $ for collecting vs. available $ for other teen social activities, and peer pressure for or against. in young adult years, it is directly related to economic gain (or loss) and if there are offspring, the inevitable tendency to shift personal collecting desires to the children. in more advanced adult years, it is directly related to nostalgia and the belief that it is worth a gazillion $ now (or isn't worth a gazillion $ yet so i am gonna keep it a little longer). in senior years, it is how much is it worth and maybe i should sell now, or maybe i should pass it on to the grandchildren, or maybe i now have the time to share the knowledge and show and tell with the younger collectors, or maybe i will give it away (all these choices being directly related to status of mental faculties and whether or not a marriage partner or legal representative is or is not influencing choice. i think...but i am not sure.
  6. i explained in an earlier post why i did not consider my self a peer. no, it is not the house of lords. it is not 12 angry men. the principle in voting yes, is just as important, without a doubt. if the poll was of a model that allowed a yes vote with explanation, i would certainly do so. by the very nature of voting yes, the philosophy of hope is null. by voting no, i am simply stating my philosophy of hope, and was able to explain openly to members why i did so. there is no questioning of the potential juror, as in a court of law, in this community. had there been such a process here, i would have been dismissed from the jury pool, because i would have certainly explained my philosophy of hope, even in the face of overwhelming "evidence". i will share that one item was on my mind that i did not mention.....the issue of the weight. it gave me pause, having some knowledge of the accuracy (or lack thereof) of scales in general, especially at the usps counter. so, had i been inclined to vote yes....in principle......i would have wanted a complete independent 3rd. party review. that was not necessary in this instance, because it was overwhelmingly clear the majority vote was cast for elevation to hos. as such, it was important to me, and only me on a personal level, to alert the guilty party that there is always hope, and maybe start a chain of thought by him for correcting any wrongs against the community and maybe some day, returning from the dead. in other words, hope. every human deserves hope.
  7. hi sharon, nothing original about me, at all, or my opinion. my same opinion has been stated in the past, concerning other hos and pl issues. i am behind all that suffer. i don't limit the philosophy of hope. yes, andrew has certainly helped the community in this regard. that is obvious. i think it is known to those that matter that i support members dealing with a stressful situation, especially when the stress is monetary in nature. in the present situation, i was pleasantly surprised that the member harmed was monetarily compensated in full. i did not want to send another pm unless absolutely necessary. whew! yes, it should be a fun hobby, and at the end of the day, that is all that matters.
  8. we differ concerning the philosophy of hope. we differ concerning your description "....a theme for your times...." because i do not know what the words are intended to convey we differ concerning "role". i do not consider it is personally honorable to vote guilty, knowing i do not consider myself a peer of the accused. my choice is to "vote" with full disclosure as to why i did so. as i mentioned, i could have just not voted. but, as you state, i am a member of the community, and chose to voice my opinion so the community hears a member voice whether the community agrees with the voice or not. i do not consider it honorable to not do so.
  9. hi, sharon i , of course, based on the presentation, would, as an independent citizen, have, by conscience, voted in the affirmative as a member of a jury of his peers. however, it would have been despicable of me to do so, for the simple reason that i am not one of his peers. i am not active in the comics threads to a degree that can even be described as a fledging comic aficionado, or even in possession of a minor respectable knowledge of the hobby. as such, i would have been flying a false flag of being a comic collector peer. some (probably many) would respond.... well, then don't vote at all. i think of it as a non-legal public declaration of my opinion as an outsider. i would not be untruthful being questioned for a jury selection, why would i do the opposite here? in this situation, i come down on the side of offering a fellow human being a life line, no matter how little a portion of the overwhelming opinion of justified voting peers....hope. i know. i suck at judging people. i can live with that.
  10. i think you enjoy your role a bit more than the situation calls for, andrew.
  11. absence of a visual sighting of a non-existent tool does not mean absence of what could have been an intention to make a hole, and thus not being prepared.
  12. yes. i do have a deep longstanding respect and appreciation of marianists, and still hold the same thoughts today, due to padre pio and father jakob gapp. better to describe me today as a father malachi martin fallen jesuit. he influenced me very deeply at a young age, and continues to do so. the vatican let both of us down.
  13. .....and i voted no, to shift the 100% condemnation, which is the exact meaning of no hope. it won't prevent the hang em' high voting theme, but still....
  14. i have decided to vote "no", because no person should ever be completely without hope and sympathy, no matter how bleak the situation. even roy bean had a soft spot now and then.
  15. the irony: the name foo means prosperity, good luck, etc. foo is the 36th most common last name in china. millions of chinese started filing applications to change their last name, upon this issue being elevated to hos status.
  16. i have kind of gotten used to them. i have endured her for 51 years. it is sort of pleasant, now.
