  1. i recall you are a product of the lovely italian catholic people. as an italian marianist, one must remember that the the 16th century popes gave the jesuits the privilege to absolve heresy in italy. now, that is ok crazie giving the ok to the crazies. add to that the whole jesuit conjuring in the ottoman empire thing, and we are 3 for 3. if the marianists were of sound mind and body they would have kicked the jesuits out of italy in the 16th century. but nope, they decided we all needed a black pope. beat that.
  2. i am. i was. ergo, my post. we didn't do very well in the whole asia thing, either.
  3. in a previous life, i would have listened to this confession, not given penance, required the act of contrition, and not granted absolution. this is known as the madoff confessional solution. that is just me, though. franciscans and xavierians might handle it differently.
  4. weird. i had fantasized about my bride wearing something like that for me, on my birthday. well, maybe a little more "open".
  5. he probably did not do anything but by a doctored book, and it looked good and he was not suspicious. you were. if i could have seen it in hand, i could confirm. anyway, my mom told me i am always right.
  6. considering it means an indefinite time in the future, i agree.
  7. it used to be done a lot. the finest example i saw was the life magazine monroe cover. stock certificates were wiped a lot. scrip looked like it just came off the press. large blanket notes got big auction hugs when it was done. is is sort of a lost art, but there are still a few doctors around that can do it. the wd 40 also helped in moisture protection. lambs wool, irish linen and egyptian cotton is used. it is also used for wood floors and fine woodwork by old timers doing restoration, because polyurethane etc., gives off a "that is to shiny" look. it looks "off". the wd 40 is just the right porridge. i will stop running at the mouth now. bad habit. get the light out......
  8. anyway, disclaimer: i am by no means knowledgeable in comics doctoring. at all. having stated this, i look at this and the first thought i have is, it was wd 40 wiped. when i collected scrip and old stock documents, wd 40 would be used to give that sheen new magazine look. that is my story and i am sticking to it. hold a high intensity flashlight at 45 degrees, or so. as you walk the light across, you will see a distinct "wave" appearance. it is sort of similar to the cartwheel effect on morgan dollars. hope this helps.
  9. what the heck did they do just now? horrible. jesus,, stop tinkering with the electronic tinker toys!!
  10. a very poor attempt at making a market 4thpg service.
  11. i don't know why it should be removed, or what value in doing so. i don't know much about comics, but in the philately and numismatics hobbies, this is an as issued/printed/minted piece. it is original, not doctored, and not post mint/post printing damage. i guess comics are different, and i would also be interested in the answer.
  12. i have it on good authority that this is a definition of an attempt to create a market, and we should wait and visit this next year.
  13. i do not have any doubt that if anybody knows what or who is barred or not, it would certainly be you.
  14. thank you. it just proves that if a persons works hard all year, the effort will be rewarded....year after year, after year.
  15. ok. if something is said that goes over my head, and then is explained to me, i say, ah, i get it. forgive me for not recognizing your exalted economic status, and your search for a huckleberry to prove a point that is not the point presented to begin with. what i do is absolutely none of your business, and has nothing to do with anything, except a silly attempt at shaming and condescending b.s. good lord.
  16. the only method that matters and that any collector should follow.
  17. thanks for the agreement as to economic issues, and maybe that adds to why people are selling. more money means more food or paying the car loan bill, or paying the electric bill, or the cc bill or the rent bill. i have not found any collectible that tastes good when you are hungry and don't have the money. are you really that much out of touch with the world around you? do you really believe it is all about the thrill is gone?
  18. i would not conclude it is because the thrill is gone. i would suggest that a major reason is economic concern, given the present status of same. i am not stating comics don't taste good, but......
  19. this is exactly where i like searching for the value, as i interpret value. you would be surprised at what is found sometimes.
  20. correct. i can not think of even one coin collector () that did not start off as the 8-9 yr. old novice that didn't want the svdb, and for the most part, wanted it because it was hyped in a comic ad, that they read and also collected. circles and circles.
