It's a beauty!!

Great book Bill!! I waited too long on it and you beat me to it Good to see it in your hands though

A couple of meager contributions to this cool thread. Both are, at last check, the 2nd highest graded copies and both are extremely nice for their grades.
My favorite Kirby Monster cover of all time:
Not a prototype issue, as it appeared in the same month as FF # 3, but certainly worthy of its Overstreet notation of "Thing-like creature":
Love these books George!!! I might have to buy some of these pre-hero books too!!
-
Here's my TTA's.Grades range from 5.5 - 9.2.I always loved the Kirby covers,and they're much cheaper than Spidey's..
Man do those books like nice all together like that!!! Love those group shots
-
My sixth Bowling Green Strange Tales. Still waiting for the other mid-Silver Age Marvel runs from this pedigree to surface in the marketplace. The cover color preservation is tremendous.
-
ok, here's 3 of the top 4 books. Each upon immediate viewing of these basic scan's flaws can be observed.
And Korvac, the distinction between your very sharp 9.4 copy and one these 9.6 copies is very small indeed. I was always expecting more from these books. But like I said, there seems to be something about this book, no copy truly stands out as being distinctly flawless on immediate viewing.
Miswraps seem to be very common with this book. My copy has a FC to BC miswrap as do the Boston and Western Penn if I'm not mistaken. The Winnepeg
and that first copy you show have that "diagonal" miswrap. Unfortunate that bad production quality has marred so many HG examples of this book.

Kudos to Mr. Memphis Chad for a safe arrival in Alaska. Marvel Comics 56 CGC G+ cream to off white....multiple bondage cover, swastikas, burning flesh, pitch fork torture, swords, guns............Human Torch cover.
Shomberg at his best........ ........soon to be unslabbed, read and mylite II with a fullback and tucked into the collection.
Sweet..............thanks....................now go buy his other books you guys.
That book looks so cool I just might have to pick up a copy some day!!! Enjoy Collin!!!

New book purchased from a board member. Great cover: the Surfer looks like he's walking his "pet Hulk"!!!
-
Kudos to MemphisChad for two great books!!! Nice working with you MC

My newest TTA + a top census copy to boot:
Korvac, I was looking at the book on the bay, and was a little surprised by the final sale price. It was fairly healthy I thought.
TTA's seem to get a mixed reaction these days, they either do 'fair to average', or sell for a healthy margin. And this was one of them.
Good pick up!
Thanks Mr Pym!! GP max for this book was $437, so I paid only $1 less. When you factor in the shipping its a new high. I'm glad to have it though
I know what you mean by a "mixed reaction". Your #70 went for a fraction of what some have paid for that book. Great pickup for you of course I guess we'll really see those prices climb if we're both shooting for the same book

OK Rich, please shed some light on this "Dentist".
I read his name once in while on the board and people refer to him as being one of the top collector...
What's the story ?
Don't know alot about him other than he is an actual dentist and owns the Mile High copy of Action Comics #1 which hasn't been graded but is reported to be "at least 9.4 or better" by those who've seen it. He was recently offered $1,000,000 for it and turned it down
I wouldn't sell it either, especially if I had done enough root canals!!!
If you win the auction ask him his selling price!!!

Isn't that always the case? Some books I have to miss out on 4-5 times till I get mad and determined enough to really splurge. This is definitely now one of those books
It makes it that much more sweeter when you get it though!! The thrill of the hunt!!!
So true, so true. The journey and not the destination, the process and not the product and the hunt and not the quarry. If we all had 9.8 registry sets loaded with the best pedigrees in existence then the hunt would be over. We might have to start collecting Native American pottery like Rozanski
-
You're all heart You've seen that 114 8.5 for sale, yes?
Yes, I am following it closely. It is tempting
Looks like a nice copy and from the fabled "Dentist" too!
-
I don't see 120 all that often for sale so I had to pick it up
Casey
When you decide to sell it, I'm sure you will find quickly a buyer within this thread's contributors
Should already be mine!!!!!!!!!!
Should've bid higher I remember almost pulling the trigger on that eBay auction myself.

Kovac, just so you know, if Doug's run was in the 59-101 category his total comes out about 25,500 points...approx.
.....so if we combined total from the currnet top 3 we'd have that total!
Ok, not an entirely feasible goal post to aim for, actually make that completely unfeasible!
I see, I see.......................... Let me get this straight: What your proposing Mr. Pym is a strategic alliance, a pooling of our individual assets to create the Uberset,
the one weapon that could defeat the evil Darth Schmell at his own game! Why, its brilliant! He'll never see it coming! Comic collectors sharing! A possible sign of the Apocalypse, but there it is! Nothing's impossible after this!
BTW, what will we call this new set? Mr Bigvac? Big Pym Saga? Pymkor Fan?
Mr Hulk Saga? And I call dibs on the set for the winter when I need them most! You guys can fight for the remaining 8 months of the year! What about shipping?
Big $$$$ there! For Bill and I its no problem, we could drive them to each other's houses, but the whole set to England?!?! We'll have to work that out.
I like
Big Pym Saga
First of all the plan does have legs!! But if I inadvertantly move back to NZ with less than a whisper to be heard from again, you'll only have yourselves to blame!!
I can't recall but I think there's about 300 odd islands for me to choose from ..Waiheke, Rangitoto, Motatapu, little Barrier, Great Barrier, Mercury.....
But ok, while none of us individually are going to assualt the Darth Scmell's total anytime between now and next week, when it needs 3 of us combined to bust it, you got to admit ...it just doesn't seem right
And it's not like we're short a ped or 2....speaking of which, if I read right, you can put me down in the que for Kovac's White Mountains if they're ever pried away from his substantial holdings!
And by the way, that is damn respectable collection Kovac's got in the entire TTA run! Kind makes me regret letting go of my earlier issues, they are fantastic books, and great early Marvel classics!
Thanks for the kind words Mr. Pym My moniker is however "Korvac" and not "Kovac". It comes from perhaps the greatest Avengers tale in issues #167- 177 which are collected in the Marvel Legends TPB "The Korvac Saga". HIGHLY recommended!!!!!!!

Sorry Bill , its all Pym's fault!! One of these days, who knows when, my books will be yours anyway so I'm just keepin' them safe until then

A recent acquisition:
Snap!
So what are the chances of you listing your TTA's in the 59-101 registry run as well?
Nice Northland!! As far as the registry, you talked me into it!!!

For what it's worth, I love the look and execution of some of the Strange Tales covers around this time. I think they're Ayers ink jobs.......and the rich colors are very evocative of that era. The color palettes on some of these covers are fab! I love them!
Great book Mr. Pym and thanks for sharing I love these covers and Kirby can make even the lamest villains look badass!!!! Maybe if Asbestos Man did have a "cancer ray" he would have been more formidible!! I agree with Red here that the color palettes are just amazing and it all works somehow. As far as the stories are concerned, The Torch tales can be found in "Essential Human Torch" and the Dr. Strange tales are in "Essential Dr. Strange"
