  1. I owned that book, just a few short days ago...here was my copy...
  2. That was my copy of Archie #2, until I sold them all in November! I have about 10 golden age MLJ books left, and I'm going to get a couple of thousand dollars worth next month, including the elusive Zip #34 and another Pep #27. Shawn
  3. I've owned the CGC VG 4.0 copy of this book for 2 years. If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for this book? It looks slightly better than my copy...!
  4. Very sweet book! I LOVE seeing books like that, that I've never seen before. WAY TOO COOL! I'd have to get it as well!
  5. With all due respect to Timely cover fans: Now, don't get me wrong. These Schomberg covers have incredible detail and wonderful eye appeal; however for some reason after I've seen about 10 of the Marvel Mystery covers (and others) it's almost as though they have become homogonized. I soon cannot remember the difference between covers as they are so similar in design and action (especially with all the Marvel Mystery red backgrounds) so for me that takes away some of their appeal. I think that's why I enjoyed MLJ covers and I feel they are the best from the golden age; several different artists would do work on books in a year's time. In fact, I think I enjoy the later Marvel Mystery covers the most; around the Syd Shores era of the late 1940's. Who knows. Timely, if those are your books, you certainly have one hell of a collection, my friend. I'm sure you have them all insured! I don't think I know of anyone that has a better run of high grade CGC early Timelys than you! Do you know of anyone? Happy New Year!
  6. Which, ultimately makes me think of the farce that's in the Overstreet guide concerning Pep 22 and Jackpot #4. Pep 22 has a 12/41 cover date (on stands Oct. 1941) and Jackpot #4 was on the stands late December/January 1942. Of course the guide says both books are the same month.
  7. That's an EXCELLENT observation of not only the climate of the end of WWII, but of this incredible cover. Kudos to you; you made me notice things I hadn't before.
  8. If I'd hit a 20 million dollar lottery tomorrow, I would collect every comic that references the 2nd World War. Simply amazing! Keep up the posts; I haven't seen many of these books!
  9. Correction! That's practically ungettable in ANY grade...WOWEE! Is that your book?
  10. Makes sense except: When it comes time to retire and buy a condo on the beach, the car will only be a memory, but hopefully the book will be worth as much or more than I paid for it. 2 years ago I'd have totally agreed with you; however there's no guarantee you'll live long enough to retire. After watching a perfectly healthy woman get cancer and die from it at an early age (My Mom, 55) I've learned to live a bit more for the "now" than the "later"...just my .02.
  11. This really shouldn't be a tough decision. That book is a butt ugly NM; I wonder how long that other smaller book sat on the cover? You'll get way more enjoyment out of a car! I had an expensive book that I sold and used the money for a down payment on a Lexus GS 300. The car is much more fun, and doesn't just sit in a closet all day....
  12. I take it back; I just read the following: err - do you know we have had a "Have A Cigar: Golden Age Only" folder for some time now? Have A Cigar - Golden Age Only I also just Bumped it, even though it was still on the first page of listings. So you're not slipping. Sorry buddy!
  13. I was surprised you didn't step in when another closely named topic was started! You're slipping, POV, slipping pal! I miss buying books, but I have finalized the deal on my house. Close date is December 5, 2003!
  14. Very cool! Did you get that from Metropolis? I noticed they had a #33 in VF/NM a while back, but I chickened out from buying it.
  15. Wow, Timely, you undergrade. Go check out the grading and restoration forum for the answer; and note what everyone else said..
  16. This just in today! (Along with those 6 Shield-Wizards!) Blue Ribbon Comics #7, November 1940....
  17. Oh. How old of a fella are ya? I just turned 30...
  18. HEY TIMELY! I'm still waiting on your answer to my question; what it is that you do for a living. I'm curious because a friend of mine and I talk about the people who have the $$$$ to buy these books probably are too busy making more $$$$ to talk on forums. Not trying to be offensive; I'm just very curious as to how you've been able to afford such books, that's all... Shawn
  19. Speaking of a Hitler and Mussolini, this has always been one of my favorite covers:
