  1. One of the most high demand and rare in grade GA Classic Covers that ever walked the face of this planet
  2. That's why I added the phrase ( IMO ) I was speaking for myself. I'm sure some others would prefer Schomburg war covers....I like this one the best.....(and based on the $47,000 sales price of this book, I am confident I am not alone )
  3. To who? The market for $50,000 non-key, non-mile high, golden age is kind of slim.. Ciorac is right again! The market for $50,000 non-keys is slim......good thing Suspense 3 is a key! In fact, in the world of GA classic covers, it is in the top 3 I would venture to say to virtually all collectors, and to many it is probably #1, including yours truly. When Heritage auctioned this book off, it was used as the background on the front cover of their Signature Auction catalogue.......they knew it would be one of the biggest and most important books they were offering, and they were right! Not only is it a key classic cover, but also THE key (IMO) piece of comic art ever created by Schomburg. I know some collectors struggle with buying a comic for its cover and not its content or characters, but in the "classic cover" world this is as good as it gets. Throw in the books true scarcity in any grade, and extreme rarity in this grade, plus a pedigree for some extra status and flair, and you have not just "a key", but the ingredients for "a great key".....even though no one is wearing tights or a cape Want to see a new world record for OA ? See what happens if this cover OA ever hits the market ( unless Jon Berk already owns that too )
  4. The price for both was approx. $47,000. Which one would you choose, and why? ..........................or
  5. I have not found a MPFW yet...which doesn't suprise me, since there are only 8 copies out there ( 1 coverless....I don't do coverless ) I have funds set aside for a MFPW, which will one day surface...so you better be prepared for a bidding war!
  6. guess you want be needin' that Tec 1 anymore, since you have a new book comin'
  7. There are some oversized Mylar-ish sleeves available thru several different archival supply catalogues and on line....I order from a Co.called Bags Unlimitied Inc. 1-800-767 BAGS. You can also buy acid free buffered tissue paper, wrap the book like you would a present, and use archival tape. As corny as this might sound, it gives you a nice custom like holder for your books form this time period......and it's easy to "crack it out" and read
  8. Ok...I was right...this was an interesting one. At this moment we have a tie: 8 votes for MPFW and 8 votes for Tec 33. I guess the next new voter will determine the winner. Who will it be, and what will you choose?...and please state "why"
  9. This could be an interesting one.....both of these books sold for approx.$45,000. The Tec 33 graders notes : small amount of glue and color touch. Which one would you choose, AND why? ........................or This is like taking candy from a baby (for me)....the pay copy of MPFW #1 featuring the 1st appearance of Subby vs. an improperly labeled restored Tec 33? MFPW by a country mile!
  10. what is it about Young Allies that is appealing? It seems very "Tough Kid Squad" to me
  11. Here are 2 high grade unrestored semi-key ( some may say key ) books that sold for $54,000. Which one would you choose, and why? .............................or Young Allies does absolutley nothing for me....never did. The Adventure 48 is a Nick Cage / Church book......all day long for me.
  12. Bill, I think both you and I have a different interpretation of color page than CGC on certain/most books. I had a Famous Funnies #1 that I KNOW had text book definition, undisputable light cream/cream pages and it came back as off-white....I almost fell off my chair! This has happened many times with me, so I know its not a fluke. You would think accurately nailing down color page would be the easiest part of grading...much simpler than resto detection and assigning a technical grade. It works for you if you are going to sell, but you have to be careful if you are looking to buy
  13. qualifier: "small donor piece added to 1st wrap with tape"
  14. Let's match 'em up against each other for the 1st time in this thread...(.I think) Both sold several years ago for approx. $48,000. Which Grail would you choose? Action 1 graders notes: "small donor piece added to 1st wrap with tape" ........................or I'll weigh in after you guys on this one
  15. As soon as you posted it, I knew it would be a shut out. Action 1 - 10 / All Star 3 - 0. If you think about it, there are over 600,000 different comic books ( not total number printed, number of different issues ), and Action 1 is number 1 of them all. #1 out of 600,000 !!! ( I'm getting excited because I'm seriously considering selling some books that were going to be keepers ( you know how that goes) to help fund the purchase of an Action 1 and Tec 27 within the next year or two, as they become available --upper end of low grade, unrestored ( suprise suprise) and nice looking will be my criteria)
  16. I'll take that killer looking Action #1 Grail of all Grails in 1 second over the All Star 3......NOTHING beats this Grail !!!
  17. fine...I'll never drink vodka and chose again! (It apparently impairs my reasoning abilities---that Tec 3 looks a 7.5 right about now)
  18. uh oh.....my trusted comrads are turning against me on this one
  19. lower demand beauty vs. high demand beast. Both sold a few years ago for approx. $5,700. Which one would you choose? ....................or as much as I LOVE high grade, gorgeuos books, I think any opportunity to own a super scarce, high demand comic like Tec 3 must be taken advantage of, and I choose the beast!
  20. here are 2 books that you rarely see, much less where you have to choose! Both of these high grade Church books sold for $8,700. Which one would you choose, and why? ...................or Funny Pages for me....dark cover with The Arrow on the cover...yup, that's the pick!
  21. 1st of all, thank you for contributing to this thread--- I wouldn't care if the Marvel was October, November, or a special New Years Eve printing, Tec 27 hand down. I would take a low grade/half decent looking Tec 27 ( like this one) or Action 1 over any midgrade GA key you could possibly come up with, and over quite a few high grade keys as well. Tec 27 and Action 1 are in a league of their own......they redefine greatness....they are the ultimate 2 Grails
  22. ........and that's why I love our hobby. Never any deception, manipulation, or smoke and mirrors games played due to greed. It's like the entire industry is run by a bunch of nuns !
  23. Both of these books sold for exactly $8,912 ( go figure ). Which one would you choose? ........................or for me....gotta go with Subby!
  24. if a kid filled in a spine scuff with a marker or crayon using the same color as the immediate area of the cover artwork, that would be amateur restoration, and CGC would agree as I have called them for their stance on this issue. If a kid made a random mark or wrote his name, a date, or drew a small horn coming out of someones head...that is very undesirable, but not considered amateur restoration, as the markings were not done to enhance the image of the book, or fix a defect like the spine scuff you mentioned. So.....if a blue label book has a kids name or markings on the cover that is OK if a blue label book has minor color touch that is not OK - improperly labeled IMO
