Image United and the Glossy Secret Invasion blanks were universally panned, but you would have to try and find those. Most everything that has been done from 2013 or 2014 on have been pretty good.

True, the last cover I had that got a complaint was an X-Men blank from 2010. The person I got to sketch on it normally does water colors for the colors. And he had to leave it mostly pencil and ink because he had trouble with the paint taking forever to dry on the cover.

  2. That is definitely odd to have an order shipped together split up. Normally only times they split up an order is if some books are getting pressed and others aren't, or if you are getting one of the special labels on some but not all. And Melanrus, I honestly don't know how they get the books to the artist and in what order, but I can say for sure it's not in the order they received them. For the last McFarlane signing, my books got to them a month and a half to two months before the deadline, and my books got signed in the third and final wave. And in the forums, there were people who said their books got to CGC either the day before, or the day of the deadline, and they were in wave 1. So, they got their books back months before I got mine, when mine got to CGC close to 2 months sooner. Not complaining, as I have gotten over it by now. Just sharing. (:

I asked in the Noob thread a few days ago, but maybe more seasoned collectors don’t look at that anymore.

Is there a broadly trusted online vendor for NM+ condition raw blank comics for SS use?

Are there particular blanks you’ve gotten negative feedback about from artists?  I’ve heard some are not great for sketching.

I haven't gotten many blanks graded. But the lowest I got on one was a 9.6. And I have ordered some from multiple different places online. So, not sure there is one better then the other to buy from. The only ones I've had complaints from artists on are, on rare occasions, some have almost a glossy sheen on it that makes it particularly hard to work with if they are being colored. But, the only one or two I've had that issue on, they felt it and said it could be an issue. I personally couldn't tell be feel what the issue was. But artists definitely can. By the way. I have gotten probably in the 40-50 range of sketches on blanks, and only got a complaint about the cover like twice. So, definitely its rare.

I measured each cover and then used a pencil and ruler to very lightly make the lines for the squares.  I let each artist choose which square they wanted to draw in as well.

Thanks! Glad I asked cause that totally makes sense, but I hadn't thought of doing it in pencil! It's not til October, but I typically go to an comic creator driven con in Memphis in September or October. And am definitely going to try this. Haven't decided what I'd want to do, but leaning towards Fantastic Four or X-Men. Thanks again!

Thanks guys, I take that as a big compliment!  Can’t wait to see what you both come up with!

I just have one quick question on it if you don't mind. Did you draw the squares for each artist to draw in before giving it to them? Or did you just tell them the plan and they kept in their space?

And here is my Batman jam piece, also from Terrificon last year.  Same as the Spidey cover, artist’s choice, no duplicates.  Artists on this one, top to bottom, left to right:

Don Kramer, Val Semeiks, Rick Leonardi

Tom Raney, Jerry Ordway, Russ Braun

    Jim Calafiore, Scott Hanna

I tried to get as many different artists between the two books as I could.  I’m very happy with how they both came out.

    This is amazing also!

Mine went from GEI to completed today. So, they definitely graded fast once they entered grading. Yours look great! I was very happy with mine also!

QQ.. First time I am submitting books for a signing.. What is the actual turn around time for the books? I submitted books late Jan 2024 for a Bill Morrison signing that according to the news, books needed to be submitted by Friday Feb, 16th 2024. When does the clock start for an actual turnaround? I also submitted books for the Wolverine 50th anniversary where books need to be submitted by April 19th 2024.. I am thinking some time end of summer is when I would see these back.. Thx!!

The clock starts after the signing happens. They posted about the Morrison signing happening, on the CGC facebook page, like 5 days ago. So, the clock starts after that.

ah so you answered as a hypothetical ..... with the Stan Lee and etc. for personal reasons...

No Worries, I asked because mine was signed by Claremont and I'm wondering the implications...

Since you responded I'll ask you too, not to hijack the thread, as Claremont is still alive, and I would argue "could still be on the table?" as opposed to the it's not Stan not worth it etc.

My GSXM #1 was a 7.0 blue label, likewise a signing opportunity with CGC came up with Claremont with a flat cost no matter the value of the book on CGC insurance to submit. I think Claremont was somewhere around $120 total. I had joeypost press before sending for the signing.

IT WAS a blue label 7.0, came back a signature series CGC 8.0 with a Claremont signature. Based on sales, I'm not sure if I stuck myself in the foot lol or traded one issue for another.

IMO it shouldn't hurt and should still be worth what an 8.0 sells for etc. idk, and idk if I should suggest Claremont sigs on this issue to others or is a personal choice lol I know he was credited with "help on the book", sig isn't so much for the investment but that the press and etc grade was one flat cost and etc.

I'm spinning wheels, but I would agree there are much more "apporpriate books" for Claremont sig. idk. I don't know if it was "worth it or worthy to be considered in the running" given the 1st post doesn't even mention that as "an option" though still alive! ???

The fact that you got a bump on it grade wise could only help in my experience. But, you also got a bump and added a sig, which could add a little extra value. I didn't even realize Clairmont was credited in that book. Then again, I don't own that book either, so there's a lot of stuff about it I don't know about it. :nyah: And I think what S-Man's point was is that the only sig worth risking it would be one that would add major value. While Clairmont is a big deal when it comes to X-Men history, he also does a ton of signings. So, his sig is out there on a lot of books, so it doesn't add much. Personally, when I decide if I am going to send something for a signature, the first thing I look at is fair market value for what it's at now, and how that would be impacted if it were to drop a grade or two. And then decide if I could live with that loss. Cause, as bad as it sounds, a large majority of sigs you get, you are not going to get back what you put into it cost wise for the sig and regrading while that person is still alive. And some, depending on the amount of books they sign, even after they pass it might not add much. So, I typically just look at it from a perspective of what's it worth at the grade now, and can I live with it if it drops. Cause though most of the time the grade stays exactly the same, I have probably had more drop then I have had them go up. So, even if I think a press should raise the grade, I don't expect or rely on it to. So, if it does it's great. But I don't bank on it.

  11. With a book this valuable, and CGC's grading being very inconsistent lately, I don't know that I'd risk it due to fear of the grade dropping some. Cause if it dropped any, you'd definitely be losing way more value then you'd be adding with Glynnis signature. I definitely understand the desire to add a sig to it! But I'd be fearful of it coming back less valuable then when  you sent it. Losing the label to add Glynnis would be worth it to me. Risking the grade dropping to add her, definitely not in my opinion. And at this point, CGC's grading is just so hit and miss on books I sent I wouldn't trust it not dropping.

  12. Some of the more recent signings where remarks were offered, but no sketches, CGC has been putting no blank covers. I bet this becomes a regular thing due to the abuse by some people during Art's signing. If Art even does another signing after this mess, I'd bet that his remark costs go up significantly and that Blanks will not be allowed.

I really want Alyssa Wongs autograph

If you go into the CGC Authorized Facilitator Event drop down window under the submissions section, you can see what facilitators have listed events they will be doing in the next few months. Only two I saw that had C2E2 listed were Scott's Collectible's and Big Time Collectibles. Not sure about any info other then that, as I have not used either before to my knowledge. But, normally if I am looking for a particular event I find who is doing it thru the CGC Submission section, then search them online to find info/and or contact info to get the information I need.

Again thanks for the sigseries email. I just got the official word from support that a listed deadline means physically there by that date at the latest.

Not a problem. I know customer service gets bombarded with a ton of stuff. And the sig series team is great at responded quickly. Glad to help!

I have a question regarding deadlines. The upcoming Ramos Delgado Slott has a March 1st deadline. Does this mean it needs to be at the cgc office by March 1st or a completed purchase of it on the site by March 1st?

Typically I've gone with the it has to be there by the deadline date. Though I have had issues a few times with the Post Office not getting it there before then, and they have still accepted them if they were close. On sig series stuff, instead of the regular customer service, I typically have way more luck getting timely answers by emailing the Sig Series team directly at signatureseries@cgccomics.com. They are usually much better at answering then the customer service. And since what you are asking about it a CGC In House Signing, it follows under them.

Oh, thats good to know.  First time doing one of their in-house signings.  Was expecting the signings to be scheduled already and completed shortly after their submission deadline . . . guess not.  All good tho, I can wait. Thank you.

Definitely no rhyme or reason with their private signings. I've seen some happen within a few weeks of the deadline, and others that have ended up 3-6 months after the deadline. Feels like they typically have a guess as to when it would work for the artist/creator, then schedule the deadline accordingly. But, also feels like that can change a lot as it's based on the artists openings, not CGC's. So, the deadline unfortunately doesn't tell you anything in the long run! :flamed:

Just speculation but it seems a bit like the off-season but also comics have tanked so much that they are at pre-covid prices and even below that now due to the excess supply of signed stuff. I think a lot of these individuals struck while the iron was hot so to speak and know now that the boom is over.

Basically I think cgc might find it hard to find people to come sign as its not worth their while. I see books on ebay sitting with no bids for a super low price…

The other part of this is that as of the last year, most of their "in house signings" are not actually done in house. A large portion of them are done with guests attending larger cons that CGC will have a presence at. Like I know they did a ton of signings at NYCC last year, and they recent team Artgerm signing I am pretty sure was done when they were at Megacon. I also know they did some last summer during SDCC. So, first part of the year is a lot slower "Big Con Wise." So, that will also slow down their signing. They still do have some that they will fly in to the home office in Sarasota. But feels like is much fewer and farther between, then during the height of Covid, when cons were not happening.

  18. Desert Winds Comics has it listed under their events schedule on their website, but it's for mail in only submissions. So, not sure if you were looking to mail in to a facilitator or if you were hoping for one on site since you were attending. They are the only one I personally have seen so far. But, with how big that con is, I'd be surprised if they don't have an onsite facilitator as well.

  19. Unfortunately not the first time something like this has happened and sadly probably won't be the last. There are people, including myself, who are still waiting for Art Adam's remarks from a signing that happened last summer. Same deal, sold too many, and have been waiting for him to slowly do them and send them back. I sent in an actual book, and not a blank cover. So, seems like those are being done last. Also, I feel your pain on getting passed up. For the last McFarlane signing, I got my books to them several months early, and I ended up in the third wave of signings. And I know people who got their books in a day or two before the deadline who were in wave 1. So, doesn't feel like there's any rhyme or reason to how they do signings.

I  WAS WONDERING IF !'M ALONE IN THINKING THE $140.00 FOR JUST HIS SIGNATURE (QUINTANA) IS A BIT EXCESSIVE. ?

That alone is eliminating me from sending something to him. That's more then McFarlane, Liefeld, and Gaiman charged, and I was very limited in what I sent to them. I don't hate on him for charging what he values his signature at, as that is his prerogative. If others want to and can afford to send in for that cost, then I have no issue with them doing so, Just personally I can't justify it though.
