    On older books I have seen tears like this and they are generally graded in the range 1.8-2.5 by CGC. Yet to see a modern book with similar defect. Is there any set rule how you penalize tears in general?

    That front cover Without that tear let's say the grade is 8.5. We need to penalize that tear somehow. If I take 6 grades off for the tear, I will call it a 5.5 Looking for opinions from others.

    After pressing, I'm thinking 7.0 Let us know once the grade comes back.

    Not the census grade, I meant consensus as in the majority opinion, which is closer to ~6.5 for this book.

    Rust on staples makes it 5.0 for me. I see the consensus grade is higher. Good luck.

    It seems a lot of pages are missing pieces at the top edge. Not sure how much to penalize for that. I am thinking 3.5 I might be totally off on this. Let's see what others think.

    This is a beautiful looking book I must say. The pencil marks on the front cover can be cleaned. I am thinking 7.0.

    9.4 or higher I am not sure what the dot is. Most likely it is a manufacturing error and the book has chance of getting 9.8 from CGC.
