So if you have a small stain, you can upgrade the book by covering it over with writing.Sold over the weekend in HA's weekly auctionJungle 88 Okajima ('48 I think)
Not on the current Okajima master list.
It went for $200, which was a premium over non-pedigree copies in the same grade, about a 2x multiplier...
It'll be interesting going forward if the market treats the camp books consistently different than the non-camp books. (remember the Boy camp book went for what 10x a non-pedigree copy?)
How has CGC been treating the writing on the camp books? Have they been downgrading much for it?
original owner markings dont get downgraded (for the writing) as far as I know.

In the 8.5, I believe the magenta has faded, as is common with FH books, especially in this time period. On the 6.5, I think their Yellow has been contaminated on press. These guys weren't exactly the Da Vinci's of the webpress -- they probably got a little cyan in their yellow and decided just to keep printing until it ran through. I say this because there doesn't appear to be any pure yellow on the cover of the 6.5. How is the back cover? Jeff's 7.0 appears to be the right color mix with maybe some light magenta fading.Another thing to note for the OP is that while it would appear from this thread that Planet 17 is quite common, this couldn't be further from the truth! Going rate for this book right now is about 3.5 times guide, if you can find a copy at all!

The Copenhagen interpretation, that is.
Schrodingers grades? But then they might grade differently knowing they were being observed. . -

Nice!Well, it's one of those that you need have and since I didn't have it... -
I confess, I have a particular fondness for this one.I like to bump this thread every month or two: -
Spoon! That's nice... blinding colors!I managed to win this one last night on ComicConnect. It went a little higher than I hoped but not nearly as high as I feared.Anyone else bidding last night find the CC web site to be very slow? It's never been fast but never as slow as last night. It might have been my own connection that was the problem, though.

Aw shucks. Thanks, guys.
I'm always watching.
A fleeting glimpse of the collector in his native habitat! If you look close you can see Roger's reflection in the glass above the art.Great collection.
Do you have a gallery on comicartfans.com?

Roger's collection is mind-blowing!
Wow, you could say that again

That's a fantastic one, Bill!I've been wanting to get a nice Buscema Conan page and am happy to add this one to the collection -
Thanks, Bill & Alex. That is so cool, Roger!agreed

Just added a complete Dial H for Hero story from the original House of Mystery run, and a 1940s Rangers Comics splash page.

Yeah, those look familiar...Having seen those before they were slabbed, I'm confident in saying you have the prettiest copies of these issues you'll ever see. The colors and pages were amazing! -
Warrior is, in actuality, more like a 6 or even a 5. It's easier to find than a lot of Atom age DC books. Another one that's off is Target 7.I would guess that the majority of titles listed by Gerber scarcity have decreased in rarity by one or two levels since Gerber's original publication date. One example for me would be Warrior Comics # 1 published in 1945 by HC Blackerby.
Gerber states scarcity at a 8 rare (11 - 20 copies exist).
CGC census states 22 graded copies (of which one of the midgrade copies sets right here on my desk).
Ebay has one of those slabbed copies for sale right now... plus one raw copy for sale.
A internet search pulled the following info from a Heritage sale which had 6 raws available ( Warrior Comics #1 Group (HC Blackerby, 1945) Condition: Average GD/VG. Includes six copies of #1. Only - Available at Sunday Internet Comics Auction #121136 ).
That's almost 30 copies available (or in known existence) right there...bringing it down in scarcity one level from the 20+ year old Gerber information.
That being said... levels 7 - 11 are going to be the levels most likely to be affected by the 20 year time span and growth of copies available.

My old copyI would be interested to see if folks think this is another Zolnerowich cover or not. It is the only one in his run of covers that doesn't have his name on it. CGC doesn't attribute it to him. For me, the lion seems like his work but Sheena's hair is longer and her outfit is fuzzier than Zolnerowich usually drew her. -
I would consider a nice copy of Classics #1 to be a big book. Here is the haul. Minus the big book3 Church copies, 2 Big Apples, 2 non pedigrees. Not a bad little weekend

The Weird Paper conglomerate will be setting up again this year![font:Times New Roman]Noticing the recent resurgence in fan nostalgia with early SDCC convention photos popping up in the Scrapbook thread I figure it's about time for a thread bump...Actually I'm using this as an excuse to mention plug two upcoming convention reunions with loads of GA (dealers, fans & comics). These events will undoubtably be cause for celebration in Houston and Oklahoma City.
The Son of Houstoncon on Sept. 28th at the Hilton Southwest...

OAFCON on November 9-10th. Biltmore Hotel in OKC...
http://oafcon2013.blogspot.com
Now that I know what my schedule looks like for the next month I'll be attending the Son of HoustonCon and may set-up there, if there are any tables left! Not sure about the OAFCON this year due to the fact that my wife & I may be in the middle of filming the Morganville web-series around that time, but that's another topic for another thread.
Never fear, if things go as planned I'll put together a con-report with photos of the Son of Houstoncon.
One caveat though: If you're looking for well endowed femme-fans in costume, fergettaboutit! Take solace in the fact that my focus will primarily on dealers and droolworthy comics. Think about the target audience and general age group of the venerable folks gracing this event, ...then extrapolate that to cos-players wearing spandex... ...not a pretty sight.
Trust me, you'll thank me later! [/font]

As I recall, it was about the ugliest Frazetta story around.
I really thought that book was nicer than 8.5.I thought so too - we all did.
I was on the fence about even getting it graded for a couple of reasons...I have most of the other issues raw and it isn't that valuable of a book. So I can just crack it back out at some point.

One of the very best GA DC covers, period! This issue popped up and I COULD NOT resist...looks pretty nice for the grade IMHO!!!! sorry for the glare of myself in the background!! I have been searching for a presentable lower grade copy of this particular issue and this one fits the bill just perfectly Moldoff's first Hawkman cover and from what I have heard also his, "favorite!!"
