  1. The Twelve drops today! http://enterthepassage.com/ I am so excited!
  2. now I have pink floyd the wall going through my head! (that's a good thing)
  3. wowo, I have replied more to this problem transaction than I did for my own in which excelsior1986 had me pay him $55 personal paypal and then did not deliver his artfully rendered recreation of Hulk 181 cover I hope you guys can work it out!
  4. i agree that both parties were semi at fault. If you want a guaranteed grade, buy it in a slab. If you want a guaranteed grade ask for a back cover scan. it seems the seller is just cheesed off because he feels like the buyer is trying to get over on him. The seller needs to realize his reputation on the boards and the right to buy and sell on the boards is more important than one comic book. This can still be made right but to do so first the attitude needs to be withdrawn. The seller should offer a half price refund on the book & let the buyer keep the book and chalk it up to a loss OR the buyer should mail the book back to the seller (at his own cost) and accept a $50 refund for original purchase price of the book (even allowing the seller time to come up with the flow if he doesn't have it readily available) In both cases the seller and buyer shoulder some of the responsibility for this compromise and hopefully everyone goes away satisfied. Reputations are not besmirched and BOTH PARTICIPANTS can feel good about being part of the solution.
  5. seriously though folks. People seem to just get too miffed with each other when transactions go awry. The butt-hurt-a-thon commences... The guy paid. The comic was not as described, he should be due a refund (or at least a partial refund) Be nice to each other! We have all had transactions gone bad. If something is worth over $50 bucks insure it! If anything goes wrong claim the insurance! Sellers should give refunds within reason. Sometimes you just have to chalk up a deal to a loss. It happens. (just ask cap freak and excelsior1976 who took my $ and then stiffed me) Once a boardie sent me a comic that got a tape pull because he packed it in a mylite between 4-5 backing boards and it shattered the mylite and got tangled in the packing tape he sealed the cardboard sandwich with, and then erased himself from the PM when told the circumstances. I let it go. a $30 loss to me is a big deal. As would a $50 loss be... But it is not the end of the world.
  6. If the item was insured then why the heck didn't the recipient of the item do a claim if the item was damaged? Sounds like a butthurt-a-thon going on here. The recipient cannot file a claim. Only the sender can do so. Untrue. I have personally bought a box of slabs on these boards, had it arrive smashed, and filed the insurance claim as a recipient, and was awarded the claim. Without the participation of the sender who was the purchaser of the insurance? I did have participation of the sender because it was YOU! I mean you gave me the insurance number... Then i filed a claim through the internet and it was paid. disclaimer: comix4fun & I had no butt-hurt-a-thon going on though our transaction! In fact he was a consummate gentleman and refunded me cash to go towards re-slabbing fees without even being asked to do so! Then I received full compensation for the claim i filed and gave it back to him!

  9. Transaction over $50? ALWAYS BUY INSURANCE! Problem solved! (thumbs u
  10. i think you are correct (plus there is a typo in the first excelsior1986 posting "[" )

  12. So what the heck? How does this work? Am I supposed to go to the list and personally add excelsior1986? or is some "keeper of the list" mucky muck supposed to do it? The guy has stiffed multiple board-members on commissions. Put that mug on the list!
  13. I know of at least one other boardie that Austin has not delivered the goods to, because he pmed me. I am really hoping Austin is okay. He seemed like a good kid and I really liked and want the piece that I paid for and he created. I am currently in dire financial straights right now myself, so it is kind of ironic that when I tried to help someone out, they ended up taking advantage of me. I am sure the burn the witch cries will be loud, but I am not for tying excelsior1986 to the stake and ushering him into the hall of shame, because I WANT MY PIECE! I am uncertain if I will ever get it, or if Austin will ever come back, as since he has befouled the nest before, he probably has a pretty good idea of what will happen to him if he does come back. I am hoping he is just having another financial crisis and got his internet turned off or something and will come back and make all his transgressions good. I'm not holding my breath, though. And, so for now I am out $55 I am going to send another email to his personal email notifying him about this thread as well.
  14. I would like to nominate excelsior1986 (Austin) for the probation list. Around the time of the big scandal in which he was involved (about receiving charity money from the boards and spending it on comics), I felt he was being hammered pretty hard by some board-members. I kind of felt bad for him, so I sent him a pm and started up a conversation giving him some support. He seemed like a nice kid and was very thankful of my giving him words of support. I told him to stick to his artistic dream and continue on with his education even if he hit through some hard times and it would pay off. I complemented him on his talent and said I would even be interested in commissioning a piece when I had the extra money to do so. Now my deal with Austin was a little open ended, and for that reason I have given him a lot of time as leeway, but he never shipped my piece. He DREW it, but I never got it, even though I paid for it. Austin has been away from the boards and hasn't posted since August 3rd 2012. I have a feeling he is going through some kind of financial hardship again, but I also have a feeling that I am out my $55, which I have no ability to recoup, as I paid through personal paypal (my choice to save him fees and help him out) Here is the nuts and bolts of our deal. on 5/10/12 I began my pm with Austin (excelsior1986) I interacted with him for a few days and decided to order a commission. on 5/13/12 I decided I wanted him to recreate Hulk 181 cover for me and told him so. I asked for a time payment deal in which I paid half for the art up front and would pay the rest of it when he completed the commission. Austin accepted that day and furnished his paypal address on 5/18/12 I pmed Austin again and requested a total price including shipping He pmed back the same day a total of $55 shipped. on 6/4/12 Austin had caught up on his commissions for order and pmed me to let me know he would be starting my cover in a day or two. On that day i sent $25 downpayment by personal paypal. on 6/10/12, Austin finished my piece and posted a scan of it in the pm thread. He said he would get it packaged up and hold it for shipment until I paid the rest of the balance of $30. Here is where I kind of dropped the ball (and in doing so probably cost myself $55) I forgot about paying for the rest of the purchase. In June i was very busy and went to both Heroes con and then Supercon in early July, promoting the Tampa Bay Comic Con. On 6/28/12 Austin sent me a reminder pm, asking when I would pay the balance. I apologized told him how busy I had been and said I would get a payment to him after I got back from Supercon. He was cool with that. on 7/11/12 I remembered and sent him the rest of the payment $30, personal paypal. on 7/12/12 he responded saying he'd have the commission in the mail this week. I never received the piece. On 7/21/12 (2 days after my bday) I sent a followup message asking about shipment of the piece. He responded that day he had not shipped the piece yet. He said it was because he had a showing of his work at a local comic shop and sold a few pieces and got a few commissions out of it. He said that he had shown my piece at the shop as an example of his work. He said he was out of town at his girlfriends house but he would get my piece in the mail on monday. That is the last I heard from excelsior1986 (austin) I am beginning to believe that MY piece was one he may have sold that day. I sent another pm asking about shipment on 8/4/12, but it remains unread. Austin has not posted on the boards since 8/3/12 I sent Austin an email to the address that I had sent the paypal to on 8/16/12 and received no response. thus I would like to nominate him for the probation list. I have sent a pm to him informing him of this notification.
  15. so has this thread calmed down from the Catwoman shawarma-athon yet? Time to stir it up again!
  16. This is one of my favorite threads on the boards. I am a dedicated bookworm and love to note the books I finish as well as see what everyone else is reading. I am a pretty avid reader but some of the guys in this thread blow me away (both in consumption and content!) I am also somewhat of a pathological list-maker and in collating my list of books I posted in this thread I found three that I had forgotten to post about! (yes I keep a handwritten list, too ) so here are all the books I have read since I posted my first book on 4/28/11 (that my faulty memory and double attempt at records keeping can account for!) The ones I forgot to list are in blue! Edited to add: I used to post my books read in this thread until this one took over... the books I read from that thread are: 6/7/10 The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman The Passage by Justin Cronin No County for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy The Mysteries of Pittsburgh by Michael Chabon and The Shipping News by Annie Proulx The Lost by Jack Ketchum The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King 4/12/11 4/28/11 Blackwater: The Rise of the World's Most Powerful Mercenary Army by Jeremy Scahill A Game of Thrones by George R R Martin A Clash of Kings by George R R Martin A Storm of Swords by George R R Martin A Feast for Crows by George R R Martin REH Biography Blood & Thunder: The Life & art of Robert E Howard by Mark Finn. The Psychopath Test: A Journey through the Madness Industry by Jon Ronson (author of The Men Who Stare at Goats) The Truce at Bakura by Kathy Tyers The Strain by Guillermo del Toro & Chuck Hogan The Amber Spyglass by Phillip Pullman Deadeye Dick by Kurt Vonnegut Player Piano by Kurt Vonnegut A Dance with Dragons by George R R Martin The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins Legacy of Ashes: A History of the CIA by Tim Weiner The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson The Devil Colony by James Rollins. The Collector by John Fowles Out of Space & Time by Clark Ashton Smith (Neville Spearman edition) The Complete Stories of Phillip K Dick vol 1 King of the Elves (Subterranean Press) The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K LeGuin
  17. wow! I havent updated my Read list since 5/12. Since I last posted I have: Completed Legacy of Ashes: A History of the CIA by Tim Weiner Read: The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson The Devil Colony by James Rollins. The Collector by John Fowles Out of Space & Time by Clark Ashton Smith (Neville Spearman edition) Completed: The Complete Stories of Philip K Dick Vol I King of the Elves Read: The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K LeGuin I enjoyed all of these reads! This was my first experience with James Rollins and I really dug the book. Very reminiscent of the Doc Savage novels I read as a young-un. I don't really read a lot of adventure fiction but I think I am going to check out some more James Rollins. Just the right combination of science, history, espionage/counter-terrorism, and globetrotting (for me). Also this was my first reading of CAS which was very stimulating. I don't often have to read with a dictionary beside me but felt I wanted to with Clark Ashton Smith. (although I didn't do it this time... perhaps on the re-read) That fellow has a vibrant vocabulary!
  18. I'm half-way through Leviathan Wakes (nominated for the 2012 Hugo Award for Best Novel) and it's sooo damn good. What's weird is 'James S.A. Corey' and that 'Black Sun's Daughter' series, 'M.L.N. Hanover', are both pen names for a Daniel Abraham, who apparently does some George R. R. Martin type medieval fantasy. Whoever this guy is, he just moved to the top of the list. The only other recent author who blew me away at this level is Rothfuss ('Name of the Wind', 'The Wise Man's Fear'), an extremely rare occurrence. James S.A. Corey is a duo of two writers Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck. They Co-write the Expanse series. After hearing about Leviathan Wakes in this thread and finding out they were nominated for the Hugo for best novel, I picked it up. My reading experience begins tonight!
  19. You just did the same exact thing, didn't you? certainly, because what I collect is the shizzle and what you collect is the SUX!
  20. I am flabbergasted that boardies are even coming out in support of that picture or trying to rationalize it with their opinion in any way.. Put em in the "Burn the witch" queue!
  21. take it down to a children's hospital! (thumbs u
  22. Right, so instead of giving some comics to his kids next time he sees them (which he obviously does since you say so right here) he offers to mail you some if you pay for shipping and you thank him later in the thread for getting them some comics. Sounds like your BS story is completely unraveled since you can't keep all of your shill accounts straight. If you HAVE TO KNOW my boys go to his house ONCE A MONTH since I left HIM!!! Well, it's nice that he will at least send them comics if you pay for shipping...very kind...and if your kids are really reading, you might want to watch your language... I bet she doesn't know that all of her cussing is visible to her children(not edited) if they quote it and hit the "Switch to Full Reply Screen" link. Stupid person_without_enough_empathy. Since her posts have been quoted by others, her children can go through and see everything she actually typed. She thinks the forum censoring protects her children from seeing the true words being typed. That's not very smart parenting. but... IDGAF!!!
