  1. Thank you both for the responses. You can see the page in question here. This is not a piece with any historical significance, just one from a favorite GL story. You can see tape in multiple places, and I know from other pieces that this was done on multiple pages in the storyline. It’s original, which is interesting from a process perspective, but also means it’s been there for about 21 years now. My concern is not so much about presentation as preservation. It’s not an expensive piece, but I would hate to buy it, let the tape sit, and have irreparable damage done to a great page. It’s not something I would probably try to remove myself (unless it’s just barely hanging on), but I am interested to know what long term effects can be expected from late-‘90s scotch tape on comic art. Maybe they make it better than they used to. Tape/adhesives are not in my realm of expertise.
  2. I’ve been looking at an art page lately (published circa 1998) that has two or three balloons taped on with what appears to be scotch tape. Aside from aesthetics, does it make sense to have this removed on a ~$300 page? Anyone think I should I steer clear of this one completely?
  3. The auctions each finish at different times, but it's set - they don't extend like, say, ComicConnect would. I don't do a lot of last-minute bidding, but I haven't had trouble the once or twice I've done it there.
  4. Post them all to your website or not, but I’d better be seeing some scans... You never know what may pop up in the ones they just happened to choose not to show. Slightly less of a concern for modern art, of course.
  5. Ha! I didn’t even pick up on the mistake - my wife would be so disappointed.
  6. I managed just one lot this time around, and that's the Hanna-Barbera London Bridge painted background cel. The price was alright and my wife will be in love with it - I just have to find a framer with some experience in animation cels, because I have none. Luckily, we have quite a few shops around here.
  7. Sounds like Kristiansen doesn't understand what "business" means.
  8. I like to use E. Gerber Archives for sleeves, and store the sleeved art in a box. I found out the one I used to get from Gaylord is no longer available, but i'm looking at this one for future purchases. I do have Itoyas, but I tend to use them more for storing prints now.
  9. I tried it out yesterday on a lot my wife was sort of interested in, as I've never trusted it enough to use it for anything I was after. I lost the lot (by a few bids), but I couldn't tell that the bid protection actually worked. My guess (now) is that it probably didn't. Sorry to hear it may have knocked you out of a purchase.
  10. Just downloaded and scanned a few documents at my desk - i'm impressed. Looks like it's time to redo my entire CAF gallery (it definitely needs it).
  11. You may want to mark spoilers for this one if the conversation moves forward. That's assuming anyone following the storyline has not yet read #50.
  12. Good lord. I didn't know the guy was on Hoarders, but I never really watched the show. Looks like I have an episode to track down.
  13. I would never modify a piece of art for convenience, especially if it could result in the loss of notes or other bits of character. I just went looking for the boxes I had been buying from Gaylord, but it looks like they've been discontinued. The one that has been mentioned here is somewhat similar. I prefer to keep art in E. Gerber Archives stored in boxes like these. They're not as easy to flip through as an Itoya, but they do a better job of protecting the art while stored (in my opinion). A noticeable difference in the current Itoya materials is part of why I made the switch. The portfolios I find in stores now don't seem as sturdy as the older ones I have. I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but the newer, "smooth" covers seem a little flimsier than the older, more rough-textured ones.
  14. I have to say, I think the latest episode is the best. I found the Halperin interview very interesting, and the roundtables are always good.
  15. Wow, that does look very familiar. I'll look through some of my stuff and see if it comes up anywhere. That's the problem with images from that period - they really were everywhere. I could see it used as a house ad, a poster, or even reused for the trading card series.
  16. Is anyone here planning to witness at PCKC in Kansas City (March)?
  17. Since Rich is not longer going to Cincinatti Comic Expo, is anyone else going to be attending for pickups?
  18. Hey now, I hear Bleash is quite the "fair-feathered warrior".
  19. Does anyone know if Capullo still has that no commissions rule I've heard about? I'd love to have him do a Batman sketch, but I don't want to get my hopes up if it's a lost cause. Does anyone around here know how he might be contacted?
