  1. Hmmm. Interestingly, "blazincomics" on ebay calls a coverless copy of BB 54 "origin of Teen Titans," consistent with it being the first appearance of the TT in line with DC and CGC's position, but chooses not to devalue the comic by claiming it is not a TT comic or by calling it a prototype. If you disagree you can instantly discredit me by posting the panel in Brave and the Bold 54 which introduces the world to the Teen Titans. This is a ridiculous and pedantic position. The entire issue of BB54 introduces the world to the new team of Robin, Kid Flash and Speedy (the editors having asked for a "Junior Justice League"), even you admit that when you agree that BB54 is the "origin of the Teen Titans." The last panel of BB54 refers to this "new team." BUT, we all recognize that BB54 doesn't have a blurb saying "Introducing the Teen Titans" for the obvious reason that the name "Teen Titans" hadn't been selected yet. [Of course, BB60 doesn't say "Introducing the Teen Titans" either, because it obviously wasn't the introduction of the team that had appeared six issues earlier.] Just like Animal Man and Ant-Man first appeared without names (or the Fantastic Four without costumes, etc. etc. etc.). Personally, I think you've been thoroughly discredited by DC, CGC, Overstreet, and all of the many dealers who disagree with you by listing BB54 as the first appearance of the Teen Titans. Further, I think your own eBay listing of BB54 discredits you because you list it as the "origin of the Teen Titans" without ever calling it a "prototype" or "not the first appearance of Teen Titans" or any other descriptor that would devalue the issue. Okay, let's try this again. BB54 doesn't introduce the world to "the new team" of Robin, Kid Flash and Speedy. They all appear in the comic together. They never form a team. They never say, "let's create a group" or even "let's work together in the future." If you think they form a team in the story, show us the panel. The name "Teen Titans" isn't selected "yet" because there's nothing to name. They already have names: "Robin," "Speedy" and "Kid Flash." Since they don't form a team, there's nothing to name. The last panel doesn't refer to a "new team" in the context of the story. The "panel" in question is an editorial blurb (as we established earlier) and (as we also established earlier), they routinely referred to any pairing or partnering of heroes as a "team." They might have been a "team" in the small-t sense, the way a taxi driver and I are a team in the effort to get me where I'm going, but they weren't a big-t Team in the sense that they decided to form a group that would exist and regularly reconvene over a sustained period of time. Whether DC, Overstreet or anyone else agrees doesn't matter. As John Oliver puts it, facts don't need people to agree. You might as well ask which number is larger, 5 or 15? Or do owls exist? Or are there hats? Regardless of who agrees, the three heroes who work together in BB54 don't form a superhero team in the sense that any comic book reader would recognize as team formation. If they had, someone would have posted the panel in which that occurs by now. No one has.
  2. Neither do these since there are only 50. http://www.comiccollectorlive.com/LiveData/Issue.aspx?id=1f3aada5-9165-43ea-96ab-ef9cfb76c8e0 Listing seems to have a conflict of interest. This isn't a genuine variant. They were signed and given COAs. The issues themselves appear to be exactly the same as any others. Here's the description: "The Coming of Hordak!" Note: This "secret" variant edition was signed by artist Ron Wilson and limited to 50 copies to celebrate the wedding of ComicCollectorLive.com's Site Director Steve Boyd and Leah Vandament. Given out to guests at the wedding, each issue came with a unique CCL Certificate of Authenticity and were hand-signed to 50 copies. A limited number were also set aside to raise money for the 4th Annual CCL Marathon Toy Drive in 2011 to purchase toys for Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.
  3. 54 is the origin and 60 is the 1st appearance, just as I have called it all along. Kinda like FF 66 & 67 except with teams. You only see the cocoon in BB 54, you don't witness the team as they have been known for 50 years with their original lineup until Brave and the Bold 60. If I didn't have a leg to stand on there is a good chance more than half of the scholarly readers here in this thread wouldn't agree with me, Duck. Do I own multiples of 60? Absolutely. Is there anything wrong with that? Absolutely not. If you disagree you can instantly discredit me by posting the panel in Brave and the Bold 54 which introduces the world to the Teen Titans. The only problem is there isn't one. It's a myth. 54 is a team up and origin. It lays the foundation for what appears for the first time 6 issues later. It's only a matter of time until the gospel has spread and the collecting community views this as it truly is. In the meantime, I'd suggest trying on a pair of big boy pants and learning how not to dish out what you apparently cannot take. I consider 54 more of a "prototype" issue, as I don't think it was ever established that the adventure in that issue led to the team's formation. But otherwise, yeah.
  4. It just hasn't been a relative title for years. I hope the show changes that, villains in DD have always been more on the lame side. Daredevil, with a few notable exceptions, has always been on the lame side Easy, now... DD's probably had the best stories of any mainstream character over the last 15 years, from the Bendis run, into Brubaker, and then Waid. Perhaps, but before that it was mostly junk. Daredevil has to rank as the #1 most unecessary major(?) character in the Marvel universe. The Marvel Universe would not be diminished had DD never been created Ahead of DD for most unnecessary Marvel character: Dr. Strange Hawkeye Luke Cage and Iron Fist Black Panther Or is your definition of major that they had their own title before 1965? Kind of smacks of what you collect sucks. I'm not sure any comic is really that necessary. But these guys rounded out the universe in more ways than you think. Dd and prof x were heroes with disabilities Cage was the first heavily featured solo African American hero Iron fist was the next step having the first strong interracial hero partnership and interracial hero romance. Doc strange fit a time when things were going magic/horror Panther was the first black hero, and shown to be an equal, and royalty even. We forget that stuff now, but America wasn't that progressive then, and these were things that would have made you think about stuff a bit. I can see the argument that DD is unnecessary re the Marvel Universe. In terms of plot, anyway. But in terms of artistic achievement, I tend to consider DD probably one of if not the most important Marvel characters.
  5. No way is Saga of the Swamp Thing 1 a bronze book! (And, yes, fun debate either way.)
  6. You're not wrong, just misinformed, as virtually no one adhered to the more-recent OS change when the dealers moved up the BA date to 1984 (Secret Wars??? ), wanting to turn "worthless early-Copper" into "valuable high-grade late-Bronze" - that was *before* Copper took off and I bet they regret that stupidity now. I would estimate the majority of informed, longtime collectors would select 1979-81 as the End of the Bronze Age and 1981-82 as the Start of the Copper Age. There are just too many seminal books (Warrior Magazine, Love & Rockets, Marvel Graphic Novels, Pacific, etc.), events (New EiCs at Marvel/DC, creator royalties/ownership), changes (no more cartoon books, horror comics/reprint titles all cancelled, Warren/Spire/Harvey shuts down, Contest of Champions starts mini-series wave), etc. for Bronze to go too far out of 1981. All this. Plus, when I was buying comics at the time--early '80s--I already knew the Bronze Age had already ended.
  7. The first Prestige can't have come out at the same time as the first regular printing--it lists the prizes it's won on the back.
  8. Where?!? He bought it on Ebay. 4.99 + 4.00 shipping. Had it on my watch list, but forgot to bid, other wise I would have made him pay at least $15 for it, or owned it myself. Summertime is great for deals, people got stuff going on! The real question you need to ask, is which venue he is going to resell it at. Damn! How did I miss that! (Fortunately, already have one, but still...! Nice!)
  9. This is a book that has yet to get its due. The Batman 227 of bronze Supes....and a bigger standout relative to the other Adams covers in the run. Amen. Plus, unlike Batman 227, this is a seminal issue in terms of plot and the long-term history of the character. Is there any Superman cover MORE iconic than this one?
  10. Whether you agree with it or not, it says right there: ads, articles in news magazines, and other such non-story content = "first time that a character appears anywhere" "...in a comic book." is implied. Because that's what we're talking about. They clearly didn't feel the need to specify that they weren't talking about original art or concept sketches. Lots of other definitions could also be twisted if you didn't take the "in a comic book" implication along with them.
  11. Warrior 1s: http://www.ebay.com/itm/WARRIOR-1-1982-1ST-MARVELMAN-V-FOR-VENDETTA-VERY-NICE-/111701650926?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1a01efedee http://www.ebay.com/itm/Warrior-1-FN-save-on-shipping-details-inside-/381293360309?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item58c6daf4b5 (insane price) http://www.ebay.com/itm/WARRIOR-1-To-16-13-Issues-Includes-Issue-One-Alan-Moore-/331594817346?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item4d34975f42 (set)
  12. No. You're not compelled to give other people things that would make them happy when you have the option of destroying them, instead, and ensuring that they never in all of eternity create any joy for anyone again. SOME people might feel compelled to do that. Worth thinking about the difference, I'd suggest.
  13. Did you have the right to do this? Sure. Are people offended? I doubt it. But you could have given them to people who couldn't afford them and created some joy and happiness. Instead you burned them, which means no one will ever get joy or happiness from them. So, whatever you call choosing not to create joy and happiness, that's what you did.
  14. Is it not available on ebay? There's usually one. Also first Alan Moore Marvelman -- definitely a key magazine (to me, anyway, I realize there are US-only collectors out there...)
  15. The difference is between signing the work as part of the work, upon its completion...versus signing it afterward, when it's just slapped on as a random autograph. I like the Adams covers I have that include his signature...placed appropriately as part of the original drawing. Scrawled on it later? Not on a 9.8 key.
  16. Source? Based on movie franchises that burn bright before the reboots/useless sequels that don't add anything of substance to the original story and they hemorrhage money at the box office. Ex: Sin City, The Crow, The Hobbit, Die hard, The Expendables. Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Hangover, American Pie, The godfather, the matrix, Silence of the lambs(hannibal), jaws, Star wars ep 1-3, karate kid etc. Sequels to hit films are generally losing propositions, especially after multiple sequels. Unless it is a miracle movie Spider-Man will be hard pressed to draw in the same amount of revenue than its predecessors. You misspelled "Jurassic" and "Avengers." My point being, you have no source for the claim that people won't keep paying for the same thing over and over OR that they want something new. Maybe you're right. But there's no metric you can point to currently that proves it.
  17. I love all the folks complaining that a person of color gets to be Spider-Man. I wonder how many of these folks complain whenever Jesus is depicted as a white dude.
  18. If she knows his origin, that's a little disturbing for Father's Day. If she doesn't, don't tell her!
  19. You just reminded me that this is the absolute last book I need to complete my Neal Adams Batman collection. Curious how you define this. Covers? Interiors? Licensed appearances (e.g., Power Record Comics)? Unlicensed (e.g., Neal Adams doing Batman for fanzines, magazines, etc...)?
  20. 11 months between posts, this thread is on fire Worth the wait. WOW.
  21. Here you go: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=8574801&fpart=1 Apparently, Murphman13 is now taking applications for the pregnant pole vaulting team... God, I wasn't even thinking about the new moderns from the past few months/years with all the variants and everything else. There are more speculators/flippers in that genre than golden age through 90's combined. Still, the way that thread died pretty much proves my point. And a whole pregnant pole vaulter team would absolutely be . Assuming they cleared it with their doctors first. Pretty easy to get the thread going again. And I think it's worthwhile. So...get it going again! Start it off with Legends 3...I didn't realize it was cooling off. Why don't you post some stats there and get the conversation going?
