  1. I'm sorry this is happening to you. I'm also glad you posted this, because I'd have bought that Sports Novels on the spot if I'd come across this schmuck before I knew of the backstory
  2. There are no publicly traded auction houses left for a direct comp, with Sotheby's selling for $3.7 billion in 2019. I'd love to see the financials as well...my first take is that I'd be surprised if the equity in HA wouldn't be worth at least mid-nine figures were it public. They'd really have to have some warts on their financials or have a skewed capital structure to be worth less.
  3. I think you're spot on. That's been my experience when I've come across those with a copy that I've inquired about.
  4. I think the bull market will slow down or end on most books, but those with clear near term catalysts aren't done ticking up. Sandman was undervalued for years, so I don't think we've seen the top there yet. Everybody who has their mitts on one is holding on to their #8 variants, but I'd love to see what one would bring in an open auction format. I believe it's been almost a year since one sold on GPA
  5. Love that issue, hearing that it's getting its own episode made my day!
  6. I 100% get why the first one sold for what it did (after all, they really don't come up often and it displayed very well for a 3.5- better than this one IMO). I wasn't expecting a second to come up that soon and was happy to snag it at a lower price. Best of luck in your pursuit of one!
  7. I missed the one at the HA auction in April, wasn't about to whiff twice!
  8. I'm curious as to what that Sandman #6 cover that sold for $50k last July would go for now considering how the market's heated up since then...
  9. Beautiful copy, congrats!! I've got a 9.6 that I think has upgrade potential, but I don't have the testicular fortitude to risk anything happening to it on a resubmission
  10. https://www.comiclink.com/Auctions/item.asp?back=%2FComicTrack%2FAuctions%2Fauctions_first.asp&id=1489776 Mighty fine looking 6.5, current bid still dirt cheap- don't let it get away!
  11. That was the only loss that bummed me out a little because I thought I'd have a decent shot at it. Great cover!
  12. A good, clean copy of BB28 has been on my want list for years. Thanks to the bull market (been selling off my bronze and modern keys and putting some of the proceeds into silver & OA), I was finally able to pick this up!
  13. Bone #1 just took another step up. 9.0 just went for $3400, on the heels of a strong price on a 9.2 at Heritage a few days ago ($3480)
  14. Much of the bull market in comics/OA was led by new money going in to the most liquid Marvel key comics, so that's the segment I'm watching for signs of a pullback. I agree with you that OA should be a little more insulated to downside shock as less fast money went in to it.
  15. Doesn't bother me. There will be a few pieces I'll miss once they're gone, but I view myself as nothing more than a temporary caretaker for anything I've been fortunate enough to add to the collection. If my family decides they want to hold on to a few pieces, I'll gladly hold those back, but I imagine there would be a day where I'll unload most/all of it...hopefully to collectors who will enjoy it as much or more than me.
  16. Any thoughts on the McKean Sandman cover hitting almost $37k? Seems like a good, solid result, but I'm not as tuned in to the Sandman art market as I used to be. Curious to see where it'd have gotten to had it been one of his mixed media pieces comprising the entirety of the published cover (as it is, full sized published McKean Sandman paintings aren't growing on trees) https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3DMckean%26ItemType%3DCA%23Item_1471114&id=1471114&itemType=1
  17. Stunning pieces. I've been tracking both of these without knowing they came from the same collection. You've got excellent tast!
  18. Last GPA buy was actually me last August. The only reason I landed it was I happened to be on ebay as soon as it listed shopping for a regular Sandman 8. I jumped on it so fast I forgot to check out from mycomicshop instead to save some $. Since then, I managed to track down a couple other copies and tried to make a run at them. Above market offers didn't matter- they weren't interested in selling.
  19. Same. I've had to be quick on the draw to land the pieces I was lucky enough to grab, but I definitely feel like I've been getting more bang for the buck by reallocating.
  20. Interesting. That's pretty cool- never saw that before. You know, once I looked at this cover through the lens that Iron Man was in pain from trying too hard to go down for the splits, I never could unsee it
  21. That MS5 is going to set the record for a bronze age 9.8 sale. Stunning books!
