(attempted) Flip of the Day!
Latverian Tourism Board replied to Lee B.'s topic in Original Comic Art
I’ve noticed when looking at sold prices on Comic Art Tracker, it converts dates to Jan 1 of the current year once you scroll down the list a bit. I’m guessing some sort of data was pulled once those sales finalized, thereby creating a default date? I know Albert didn’t sell that splash for $1500 anytime recently. 😁 -
How was the San Francisco show today?

Does Saul Zimmerman have a website? Or does anyone know how to contact him and/or see what art he has? Thanks. -

Need help identifying this Romita piece
Latverian Tourism Board replied to jjonahjameson11's topic in Original Comic Art
I know Romita did some work for the series, on merchandising and promo posters (even some reworks and finishes on at least one Secret Wars Layton page), but I haven’t found it yet on the pieces I have, and I’m nearly complete with all the toys and merchandise. If it’s Secret Wars, I’d guess it’s either for a poster, or a store merchandise display. I have two displays, one the large top display, and a thin shelf front display, and one does have Romita work, imo, but not this image. I’m not sure if he drew any of the shield winky images, that could be another possibility, I think. If I see it as I go through the toys and kid’s stuff, I’ll update. Good luck! -
Decorating the Morlock Tunnels: Art under $500
Latverian Tourism Board replied to RBerman's topic in Original Comic Art
Great thread idea! I’ve gotten a bunch of art for less than $500 apiece over the last year or two. It’s still out there. “During this fight, I've seen a lot of changing, in the way you feel about me, and in the way I feel about you. In here, there were two guys killing each other, but I guess that's better than twenty million. I guess what I'm trying to say, is that if I can change, and you can change, everybody can change!” Link to CAF write up (Sequential pages, btw)

I have two EC pages. The first was from Mad comics, before it became a magazine to escape the comic code. This is the last page of The Countynental by Jack Davis. I loved how he’d draw bits and pieces falling off of his odder characters as they burst into scenes. The next page is from Vault of Horror, and is the exact opposite feel of the Mad page. Shambolic zombies and horrified expressions replace Davis’ great sense of humor. Could any artist switch between humor and horror with such facile ease?

Good choice. 😁👍🏼 I’m definitely a hold on those kinds of A pages. I have one other page that leads to yours (and the one I got was an arc lead-in to mine). It’s all great art, and in-keeping with the Kirby Thor style of storytelling. I like that this is turning into a Frenz appreciation thread. Here’s my other page, too.

Another awesome Frenz cover. If it was priced like the one Twanj posted, I’d imagine it would go quickly, too. Based on that cover sale from PPA, and how quickly these great pages sold, if the general “formula” of a cover being worth 2x A splashes, and a great splash being worth 2 A pages (found it in a thread here while searching how to price), then the art drop was priced to sell quickly, imo. I certainly have no qualms about how much I paid. The FF in action, negative zone, Baxter building, a Yancy Street mention, and great, full-body Thor, Frenz/Sinnott? I pounced. The other two were sold while I was thinking for a second.
-
Yeah, I was able to decide really quickly. Scott Kress actually described them as: ”Catskill Comics: Frenz & Sinnott Thor Art Drop Tues. Aug 17th @ 12pm EST with new Frenz & Sinnott Thor interior pages. These are pages a lot of people have been asking for including 2 splash pages.” So, it sounds like this drop was based on popular requests, and the kind Mr Frenz relenting.

They went FAST! Three panel pages at $2500, and two (maybe 3?) splash pages at $5000. I barely snagged a page from Thor 405, which was my top choice, but listed last, so I got lucky. I have a page from 406, too, which is part of the same story arc. The first was gone within 30 seconds to a minute. There are a few really huge Frenz fans that scoop the good ones quickly during Catskill drops. I won’t be putting it up on the site for a bit (I like to see take my own pics, work out my write-up, and I just haven’t had as much time for the site over the last few months), but here is mine. I’ll see if I have any of the other pics cached.
