  1. Hey sacentaur, that Adventure #37 on Ebay is slipping away. I think it's at $400 and there's still 3 days left
  2. Not trying to bash Dave, because I do sort of like him. But, he would not carry EC comics because of his religious beliefs. Ok, I buy that. BUT, I hasten to add, he would sell you a book he restored and not tell you it was restored. Funny sort of ethics I always thought, but that's just me I guess. Perfect icon for that, huh? I, on the other hand, have the entire EC annuals reprint library. I think it's more about personal taste. Just because I love a good, classic horror comic doesn't mean I serve
  3. So am I, but if I see you at a con I'm not going to throw holy water in your face or beat you with a Bible I have an Adventure-related question: I bought the Sandman DC Archive yesterday and love it. Is Adventure reprinted anywhere else, specifically the issues before #40 (pre-Sandman)?
  4. Newest additions. Certainly not 'key' books, but I enjoy them none the less... Silver Streak #23, graded (not by CGC) 5.0: Camera Comics #5, CGC 6.5, highest-graded, Ohio copy. Honestly no idea why it only got a 6.5, it looks so much better, especially in person: Camera Comics #7, CGC 9.0, highest-graded copy:
  5. Was there a # 37 in any of the big pedigree collections? I'm thinking not because looking at the CGC census, the top Unrestored copy is only a 5.0 and the top Restored copy is 8.5 (Nick Cage copy). It doesn't seem like many of these survived, and if they did they're in the botom half of the grading scale. That's a cover that I've always loved and I'm glad I finally got my hands on a copy!
  6. A couple years ago, I had a stack of low-value books that were taking up space more than anything. I donated them to the nearest children's hospital. A couple weeks later, I got a note from a lady who works there and she said the kids absolutely love comics. She thanked me and invited me to send more if I ever wanted to. I don't remember if they provided some kind of "receipt" or not, but even if they didn't, just knowing that they're being read and enjoyed instead of sitting in a box or on a shelf in my house was better than any minor tax write-off.
  7. That's what you said to me too! Admit it, your goal is (comic) world domination.
  8. Is it going up on your site or is it for your personal collection?
  9. Congrats!! That's such a cool book, and that's probably one of the nicest copies out there. Good job!! Thank you! Surprisingly it's the highest-graded Unrestored copy to date. Also surprisingly, if you look at the CGC census, more Restored copies have been graded than Unrestored ones! There's got to be a better Unrestored copy out there that just hasn't been graded yet.() BTW - sweet copy of #39. How much do you want for it?
  10. This issue has been posted here previously by someone else, but I thought I'd chime in with my newly-acquired copy (looks better in person - sorry for the poor scan). This has to be one of my all time favorites:
  11. Agreed! Even though these comics appeared decades before I was born, I've always loved the pre-superhero books more than anything else. Comics have always been a business first and foremost (at least from the publisher's point of view), but these books were true to the title in that they really inspired a sense of "Adventure". I guess I'm just old at heart.
  12. If indeed he saw those as a kid, then it's easy to see where his inspiration for a lot of his ocean/water covers came from
  13. Nice copy! I'm buying a copy off Comiclink right now (I'm waiting & waiting for the sale to go through - but that's another topic). The copy I'm buying is CGC 5.0 which, surprisingly, is the highest-graded Unrestored copy to date. I'm sure yours would grade at least that high, even with the piece missing. Since I can't get my hands on Double Action #2, this is the next best thing.
