  1. But it's not in a yellow-labeled slab. Great book - I'd like to pick up a high grade copy one of these days.
  2. It's on now! I guess I should be satisfied with owning 4 copies of a Gerber 9 book.
  3. Like you driving me bonkers with that Jumbo 31?? btw - What's the condition of your KO?
  4. Those jungle-themed comics like Kaanga, Jungle, Jumbo, etc. are awesome!
  5. It will arrive in a couple days. I've seen someone post the interior before & it was pretty cool if I remember correctly. Yeah, I've seen someone here that has a ton of them. I was surprised to find any copy, let alone a really nice one.
  6. I've always wanted a copy of this hard to find one-shot. So, after negotiating with the seller, I finally got this little gem. It was represented as VF/NM. I think if I get it slabbed, it would come back at 8.5, maybe 9.0. Regardless of condition, I'm happy to pick up a copy.
  7. That one is called Cancelled Comics Calavcade. There's a good paragraph in the Guide that tells about it. I think it's in the Promotional comics section. If I remember correctly, it's a collection of unused titles/stories that were gathered when DC slimmed down their operations. Moondog has been quite lately, but I'm sure he knows more about it & could explain it better. It's kind of an oddity, even among ashcans.
  8. I only own 12 of the 50 titles, so the rest of the scans came from a few different places: Esquire's website, Moondog's ashcan article in CBM #71, Hake's & many from Heritage (past auctions). I believe Superwoman came from CBM 71. I'm glad you guys seem to be enjoying them!
  9. Thanks. Gerber only has photos of 6 or 7 & I think he calls them "b&w versions". Of course he correctly gives them a scarcity rating of 10. Almost all of the missing scans are books with only 1 known copy, which hasn't been sold in many years, so I'd pretty much have to get it from the current owner. ( If you're reading this, please contact me).
  10. I posted this over in Esquire's ashcan thread, but I thought it might fit in here as well. Here's every known GA ashcan title that I could get a scan of. There's about 10 more that I'm working on. Since all of these books will never be together for a group pic, this is the next best thing.
  11. I've also come up with what I believe is an accurate ashcan census. After all, that was the original topic of this thread. Individual books have been discussed, but I haven't seen an all-inclusive list posted before. As with the scans above, if you have any corrections or better info, please let me know. Ashcan Title and number of known copies ACTION COMICS 3 ACTION FUNNIES 3 ALL-AMERICAN COMICS 1 ALL-AMERICAN MEN OF WAR 1 ALL STAR COMICS 1 ANIMAL ANTICS 1 complete book + 10 loose covers BOY COMMANDOS 6 (two versions exist: with & without "#1" on the cover) CHAMPION COMICS 2 COMMANDOS 2 CRACK COMICS 1 CYCLONE COMICS 1 FEDERAL MEN COMICS 1 5 CENT COMICS 2 FLASH COMICS (DC) 2 FLASH COMICS (FAWCETT) 3 (two versions exist: with & without cover art) FUNNY FOLKS 1 GIRL'S LOVE STORIES 1 HEADLINE COMICS 2 HERE'S HOWIE 2 HOUSE OF MYSTERY 2 INTIMATE CONFESSIONS 3 LEADING COMICS 1 MOVIE CARTOONS 10 loose covers MOVIE FABLES 10 loose covers MOVIE GEMS 10 loose covers MYSTERIOUS STRANGER 1 MYSTERY TRAIL 1 NICKEL COMICS 2 O.K. 12. If I had to pick just one, I'd pick the Action Comics with the knife-wielding ghoul! I've always loved that cover.
  13. I've been wanting to put together an ashcan gallery for a while, so here goes. I have scans of 50 Golden Age ashcans so far, but I know of about 10 more that I can't locate a scan of. Notice that DC used the published artwork for Boy Commandos #1 on no less than 11 ashcans! I guess they really, really liked that cover. If anyone knows of any titles that aren't represented (or especially if you have scans of any more), please let me know. Enjoy!
  14. I can't afford a TEC 31, but I'd love to get my hands on the top graded copy of Adventure 37 (8.5 Restored).
  15. Thanks for the info. That's a nice copy & I might just grab it. Although there are a whopping 51 9.8s out there, but only 2 graded at 9.9. Now if I could get my hands on one of those.....
  16. I'd take Sensation 1. There's fewer copies graded higher compared with the TEC & from what I've seen, it's not offered as often as the TEC. Both are sweet though!
  17. Don't let Moondog hear you say that - I think he's the Grand Poobah.
  18. We'll compromise - you won't bid on any ashcans & I'll stay away from the X-Men. Seriously though, I wasn't trying to put down any specific person's collection. I actually have a few X-Men books (I think the highest I have is a lowly 9.2). I love the Dr. Doom cover on #145 & if someone had a 9.8 for sale, I'd probably bid on it!
