  1. It sux. I'm not bidding on it*.

    Rick

    * "It" is the title of another comic in this auction and has no connection whatsoever to JLA #1.

    Rick,

I thought you only collected High-Grade JLA's....don't bid on this piece of garbage...CGC 9.0 is pretty much mid-grade.... :baiting:

(at least Paperheart only collects 9.2 and above, and Tim only collects 9.8  )

This may be the highest graded JLA #1 that I would be "allowed" to buy...

    Hopefully it has good QP....

Watch for some JLA's to come up for sale in the near future... ;)

Make me an offer...the only book that would be off the table from my CGC registry set would be #83 in CGC 9.6 (highest graded) and very hard to replace...

  3. I will pay more than $6000.00 for a 9.6 copy.

    I'll pay more than $6001 for a 9.6 copy.

Someone refresh my memory...about a couple years ago there was a Pacific Coast JLA #22 on sale on comic link...I can't remember if it was a CGC 9.4 or 9.6, but it sold for $8,000....it was already sold by the time I checked the site...

It was a 9.6 copy. and as the Python's would say, it was very nice (with a French accent).

    Thanks Dover (thumbs u

  4. For HG JLA completists, I just noticed that there's a 9.2 copy of #24 in the weekly Heritage auction. This is the B&B 60 of JLAs ( :P ), traditionally very tough to find in HG, with only 2 9.2 copies at the top of the "regular" census and 1 freak PC copy way above by itself.

stick to noticing 9.4's and leave the dregs for us little guys.

    A 9.2 #24 is like a 9.4 of any other book.

someone got a steal the last time this book appeared based on the price this go round. i was the unfortunate underbidder. i believe spookley bought it.

You weren`t even willing to go 2X guide on this book? If spookley won it, he got a good deal.

    :cloud9:

I won it the last go around for I think $400...9.2 with white pages...

    (worship) That's a great deal!

:frustrated:Got outbid on the JLA #86...black cover, Neal Adams cover...highest graded and only 9.4 copy on the census....I think it went for $310....I would have gone higher but it's a late silver age book and I am hoping a 9.6 copy comes out of the woodwork....

Never noticed the scarcity of this book in NM before. I'll have to keep an eye out for it. hm

By the way, Tim...what JLA issues do you collect up to...1965 and earlier or the #1-100 run?

Pretty much just 1-20 at this point.

    Tim,

Let me know if you find any raw high-grade copies of JLA #86....I have been seeking them out, but usually the ones I see for sale (raw) are more like an 8.5 than NM.

Any guess on how many high-grade JLA collectors are out there?

It seems most collect #1-30....after that, the later issues are pretty easy

to pick up unless it is very rare in high-grade (9.4 or up)...ie: issues #46, 59, 62, 75, 83, 86, 93....most of these have black covers...

  6. :hi:

Haven't been on the boards for....I think almost 6 months...

How did we let the JLA collecting thread fall off the first page... (shrug)

Been really busy with work, family, etc....but I am now getting withdrawal

symptoms and feel I must buy something....

Hope to start filling in my #1-100 run and ditch the 101-261 run.....

    johnny

    P.S.----I'm glad I don't collect TTA #59, or Rocky Mountain FF's, or AF #15's....

JLA's seem to have cooled off a little....well at least compared to silver age Marvels....

  7. Spook,

I remember that particular copy being on Metro's site for something like 5650, odd a key book like that cant hold its value, stain or not, but 4200 for a 8.0 last year is pretty eye opening.

Im am curious what a 9.0 would sell for right now at auction, I was very surprised that 2 very nice 9.0s (different copies) sold for a little over 10,500 at 2 separate Heritage Sig auctions at the end of 06 and the beginning of 07. I fully expected both to hit the 15K range and neither came close.

Yep, I remember those. Wish I had had some freed up cash to win those back then. I think if they came up for sale now, it would hit 15K...the 9.2 (toth copy) just sold for almost $36K...

Also, I can't remember (for those 9.0 copies) what the next incremental bid would have been...

There are always books in auction that I wish I could buy at the final sale price, but was unwilling to go another increment...

  8. That book has been put up on ebay and other various sites numerous times with no buyers. Personally I didnt want that copy because of the ugly distributors mark/stain on the top of the book.

It may sound counter intuitive but JLA #1 seems a lot hotter then BB 28 is and the prices are showing this. I guess what someone said in another thread is true, there are many JLA completionists, not as many BB guys and because of that JLA #1 is bringing in some great prices.

TeddieMercede is absolutely right...I went to e-bay to check it out and that is the same BB 28 that has been on e-bay and other sites multiple times...

I checked GPA and the last BB 28 in CGC 8.0 sold in 11/07 for just over $4200.

$5000 is probably a good price for BB 28 in 8.0 if it had at least off-white to white pages and no distributor mark (that is a big eye sore)...

I also agree that JLA #1 is hotter...

It seems BB #28 is hot if it is ultra-high grade (ie: CGC 9.0 or better) or if it is low-to-mid grade and affordable. There was a BB 28 CGC 7.0 that sat on Blazing Bob's site (highgradecomics.com) for a good price for much longer than I thought it would...

  9. pq is off-white to white,i have gpa but a 8.5 hasn't sold since like 2002

    Cappel,

There was a JLA #1 CGC 8.5 Bethlehem Pedigree that sold in a ComicLink auction a few months ago. I believe it sold for $6K+

P.S.---Comiclink does not send in their sales to GPA

I was watching that auction closely and would have bid more aggressively, but

I didn't like the date stamp on the cover...

  10. Uh, yeah...what Tim said.

And even having the money available doesn't guarantee you can get the books. To wit-- a reprint of an earlier post:

Besides, unless someone has a 9.4 raw set already, I don't see a slabbed 1-30 9.4 set ever coming to fruition. Ever.

Unless the Kentucky owner decides to keep what he's got and make the attempt. Then he needs to come after my #6 ...and Tim's #4...and the two #5s...and one of the two #9s...Tim's #10 ...2 #16s...oops no #19 higher than 9.2 (so much for a 1-20 set in 9.4)!

You're gonna need more than a crowbar to pry most -if not all- of these books away from their current owners (2 of the books on your list are up there, Johnny). :wishluck:

    Rick

    :tonofbricks:

  11. I am a completionist at heart and would love to finish the entire run of JLA in 9.4 or better (#1-261, plus BB 28-30) :insane:

But that clearly is impossible (since I don't play the lottery)

The recent realized prices of the early JLA's have surged and there is no looking back....

so I am considering just collecting my favorites (ie: BB28, JLA#1, 3, 6, 10) and

    then all of the JSA appearances (ie: #21, 22, 29, 30, 37, 38, 46, 47, 55, 56, 64, 65, 73, 74, 82, 83, 91, 92, 100, 101, 102, 107, 108, 113, 123, 124, 135, 136, 137, 147, 148, 159, 160, 171, 172, 183, 184, 185, 195, 196, 197, 207, 208, 209, 219, 220, 231, 232, and 244)

what do you guys think? hm

Yeah, but if expense is an issue in collecting 9.4 and above, then falling back to "only" B&B 28, JLA 1, 3, 6, 10, 21, 22, 29 and 30 in 9.4 isn't going to help you much either. The cost of acquiring the rest of the entire JLA run in 9.4 is going to be less than the cost of acquiring just those books.

    :o:cry::sick:

You are right, I will have to settle for 9.0 or 9.2 copies of the first 5, and probably 9.2 for the 22 as well

  12. It depends on what is more important to you-9.4 condition or a complete run with some books at a lower grade. For me, I'm going with the later(sort of). I am not even planning on completing up to 261, probably up to 125 or 150. I just want affordable nice looking books. For example, I will probably upgrade B & B 28-30 and JLA 1-3 to 6.0-7.0 and be happy with that.

I've been going back and forth about lowering my grade standard, but I have developed a severe case of "tth2-itis" over the past year.

and those Toth books are not helping my recovery from this paralyzing, agonizing,

    illness.....
