  1. So let me get this straight. Lower graded books are not negatively affected by mc but books in mid to higher grades are depending on the degree of chipping? Since Borock left CGC, does this still apply?
  2. Have you actually asked CGC that they do downgrade for chipping if a book is not in lower grades? I do agree that lower graded books already have enough defects on them that mc does not really do justice to the final grade. On the other hand, mid grade to mid/upper (6.0-8.0ish) I do not see a drop in grade at all if mc is present. I think I also read years back about the issue of mc that CGC grades the book as if the mc is not there on a chipped book. Yes, it is not precisely what I meant, just an example that a gap is in fact present and that it is more significant now than it was before.
  3. And these are probably the same people who didn't have a copy then and probably till now
  4. I too believe that CGC or any other grading company should hammer down on marvel chipping when it comes to the final grade. It's a significant defect that should be taken into account that lowers the visual appeal of the book. If CGC has graded harshly with staining and how they changed their stance on tape, I don't why they wouldn't do the same with chipping (pre and full-on). I first noticed the difference in pricing with books having the same grade about 10 years ago when Metro had several AF 15's up for sale with about 2-3 of the same graded copy but with difference in pricing. I've always back then wondered why this 3.5 copy is cheaper than the other. After thinking through it clearly, I then assumed that visual eye appeal had something to do with it and have taken that into account when I buy books. Practically all the bigger keys I've owned since then have had strong eye appeal and would never settle for less. It seems now collectors/investors have taken the strong eye appeal factor into account regardless of grade, which should have been in affect years ago. The gap seems to be widely spreading in values between chipped and non chipped copies kinda like restored vs unrestored copies.
  5. book looks perfectly square. Hoping it is not trimmed
  6. Been hearing about Bob Storms' Tec 38 copy that sold right away after the CC Tec 38. Can someone fill me in (pm if you want) on the details and a pic? Thanks!
  7. Also what are the chances that both the front and back covers would be sun faded? I've never seen the back cover of a book being faded at all, usually the front for display purposes to customers.
  8. Well, let's see if this trend continues to the next major auction with pre-robin tecs
  9. I wasn't surprised at all about the sale of the Tec 1. A classic cover and well-deserved.
  10. Nice copy and good luck! Looks as if Invisible girl planted her invisibility powers on Mr. Fantastic's head
  11. and the brittle pages will lower the value as well
  12. Yep the back cover differences with and without the red ink is like night and day (referring to the "beautiful desk" and "act now" texts). Clearly the CC book did not have the red ink. Too obvious...
  13. Pre-Robin Tecs have always been hot since I started collecting these issues, but not this hot. I certainly hope that these prices won't stick in the long run until I complete my run again It's definitely a seller's market right now. Great timing to sell major keys I guess...
  14. Tell me about it!? I keep checking out this thread and would like to pair up my AF 15 with an ASM 1. Just haven't found the "right" copy yet.
