  1. Condition is all important when it comes to the value of comics. We all want a minty, perfect CGC 10.0 copy of our favourite books. But life can be tough for a comic and keys can be freaking expensive in high grade. We're not going to condition shame anybody here. This is a safe space. So show us the comic in the roughest shape in your PC. The scruffy, mistreated dog you rescued from the shelter and gave a home. Let's embrace & celebrate their imperfections as making them unique and interesting. Here's mine as judged by the PGM gurus back when I was a 'total newb' on the boards
  2. Not wanting to annoy peeps who differ on what age early 80s books belong to, I'm posting this here Frank Miller in his prime was one of my favourite writer/artists. In the past I read most of his Daredevil run as reprints and I've decided to add more originals to my PC. I picked this one up today. It's my first ever purchase from someone in a Facebook group, rather than eBay or an LCS/bookstore! I used the money I received for a small modern Daredevil run I disposed of, as mentioned in the thread below: https://boards.cgccomics.com/topic/510356-what-did-you-cut-from-your-collection-this-week-and-why/?do=findComment&comment=12434899 It's got a few colour breaking spine ticks & news stand writing on it so it's no "9.8 candidate" but I'm still glad to pick it up I think I had a crush on Elektra when I was a kid, perhaps I still do
  3. I did a search and found the one you created. I couldn't see discussion in it about the line up but there were a lot of pages to look through
  4. We don't know when the first MCU X-men movie is coming, but we know it will. We also know that Disney is committed to diversity & inclusion in casting & it will be a different line up to the previous Fox films. We've already seen Professor X in the Dr Strange 2 so he's a given. Who do you predict will be in the first MCU X-men team? (If it's even called the X-men ) Here's who I think the most likely inclusions are Professor X Jubilee Bishop Rogue Forge Shadow Cat Storm Wolverine - because they want it to be popular And it might seem like a longshot, but Longshot as a value bet I think white straight male characters like Cyclops might struggle to make the cut
  5. Indeed. After he pointed that out, it looks like a pressure crease/rub.. That could take its grade down to sub 8.
  6. Yeah. The prices on Detective comics 359, the first appearance of Batgirl should decrease significantly. I saw so many YouTuber comic speculator videos which included picking up a copy of it
  7. If it wasn't for the black pen drawing and colouring this would be a high grade copy. Even though the "artist" has tried to blend it into the rest of cover it probably takes it down to like a 6.0.
  8. There are people who get their books graded & signature verified by CBCS @BarneyBarn I think whoever signed your copy also signed the book @RedKollar queried. I just had a look at that previous thread and it seems Claremont's signature did look like that back in the 80s...
  9. @BarneyBarnI question whether that Claremont signature would pass a verification check. I own a UXM95 signed by Claremont and have seen his verified signature many times and it's quite different to what is provided in your photo. See a similar example below which looks like his usual signature. Quite different....
  10. Only 10 years old, Judith Eva Barsi's life had barely started Shocking. Certainly a change to all the humorous memes in this thread
  11. Interesting! Kitty tells a fairy tale in Uncanny X-men 153 about a dragon called Lockheed which is portrayed in that issue. Then when she meets a dragon like creature in 'real life' so to speak in 166 she names him after this fictional character and goes on to be her companion and ongoing X-men & Excalibur character.
  12. To be safe I might post any thing about early 80s books in the general forum in future
  13. Wow! I'd be glad if I just had 1 copy in my collection with creases on it Moore's writing in this title is sensational
  14. Hi Lazyboy. Following the responses I received I posted another 1983 X-men I bought (UXM 166 1st Lockheed) over in the copper age thread, & I was told it should be in the Bronze forum. See the screen shots below they included showing the official definition of the CGC website puts 1983 in the Bronze age. So should I still be posting about early 80s books in the copper forum?
  15. Thanks for that. I had a couple of board members jump on me for posting a 1983 X-men in the Bronze X-men thread recently... So I posted this one here. It's really a controversial limbo period. I might borrow this screen shot and repost it over in that forum
  16. This book is surprisingly cheap considering it's the first appearance of a known, likeable supporting character in Marvel comics. Particularly these days when we see books with 1st apps of obscure characters blow up in price. I've watched comic book YouTuber's talking about buying books based on "deep spec", predicting a character might appear in an MCU film. The X-men are definitely coming and cute animal companions are obligatory in Disney productions But I bought this book because I loved Excalibur as a kid and it features an affordable first appearance of one of it's founding members, and fills a gap in my Uncanny X-men run. Uncanny X-men 166... ...the first appearance of Kitty's companion Lockheed the dragon! I enjoyed reading it too. The page above features his very first panel appearance
  17. Even over here in arid Australia, it's unexpected flooding which I've found is the biggest risk. You can leave your PC safely gathering dust in a storeroom for 10 years but then a freak storm can see water somehow get into the area and wreak havoc. As a kid I lived in the outback where it got very hot but the bottom of my wardrobe was always a fairly cool spot for my comics to live.
  18. Adamantium, I'm not a flipper BUT some time ago I found a run of non-key bronze ToDs for cheap in a 2nd hand store which I thought about buying to sell for a profit. Keep thinking I should go back and get 'em. Would that make me a bad collector?
  19. I didn't cut this one this week. But it is one I moved a couple of years ago due to concerns around exposing my kids to it too: Faust #1. My son had been showing an interest in my collection & I didn't want him reading the explicit violence, sex, drug use. Faust remains one of the most graphic comic book series of all time. Some of the later covers had X-rated depictions of satanic orgies & close ups of sexual acts. It's like Vigil and Quinn were trying to see how far they could go and get banned. I think Canada was the only place which banned it though.
  20. Interesting reason to move them on. Did you sell or pass them onto someone who would appreciate them for free?
  21. That's good of you I was thinking a common reason to take books out of your collection is to sell and use the money for acquisitions & upgrades
  22. As collectors we tend to add new books to our collections, but there are also times we subtract as well. Tell us what you moved on & why? This week I moved on my run of the first 8 issues of the Daredevil 1998 Marvel Knights run by Quesada & film maker Kevin Smith. I've decided I just want Frank Miller Daredevil's in my collection and the neighbouring short box is reaching maximum capacity so I also wanted to make room rather than do a big reorganisation. While Quesada's art is cool, I never liked Smith's comic book writing. In hindsight I shouldn't have expected someone famous for indie slacker comedies to write entertaining superhero adventure stories. I found his run boring and the catholic turmoil wasn't interesting to me. Humour is his strength but it was a serious story. Over to you...
  23. I picked up the following books while on holidays in Tasmania of all places. As discussed in another thread it's often less populated areas where you can find nice keys as the shops are less likely to be picked clean by collectors. In hindsight I should have I bought more. I visited my LCS after getting back and there's nothing I want from their back issues. Zip. It's frustrating when I keep going into stores in my state ready to buy wall books and they've got nothing. Back to the bay for me unfortunately... According to numerous influential references in the hobby ie. Overstreet, Key Collector, eBay etc, etc... the final year of the Bronze age is 1985 or 1983. This would make the following comic a Bronze book. But I was corrected by a couple of boardie's when I made that comment so I'll just post it here Uncanny X-men 173 (1983). Love this Wolverine cover in his iconic hunting/prowling pose by Paul Smith. Predating Art Adams and others who popularised it. It's the first appearance of Storm's punk look including Mohawk too. Uncanny X-men 191 - 1st appearance of Nimrod, but also appearances by the Avengers & the New Mutants all coming together to battle Kulan Gath. Uncanny X-men 239. Really happy to find this book as I loved the Inferno cross over event as a kid & this is one of the few issues I'm missing. 1st cover appearance of Mr Sinister & 2nd appearance overall.
  24. I used to have the 80s = copper age view too, but all the main platform resources that collectors refer to such as eBay, Key Collector etc.. have Bronze ending in 1983 or 1985 etc..
