  1. Recently recaught Big Hero Six. It's a really sweet movie. Sure, a bit of a simple conclusion, but it was a really beautiful movie
  2. I think Smith could be game, I mean his next (or upcoming) project is a direct to Netflix project with Ayers written by Max Landis. I think he might just be catching up to the new climate where it's okay for superstars to not be superstars all the time. General thoughts on the film, I think it was good enough, I was excited for it, and I thought Smith, Viola, and Robbie were excellent, and minus some editing (which DC seems to have a problem with, considering BvS) and kind of a wonky final act (something a lot of superhero movies share), it was alright, but I will say by no means did I leave this film like I did Guardians, which for me is still one of my favorite Marvel films. I thought it was a joy. I'm not married to any of the other Squad members, and would be up for a rotating cast of DC characters. I'm not sure what I think of the Joker. Leto is a talented guy but I'm just not sure there's anything here, or enough of it, to form a definitive opinion. I could have lived without him, or seen more of him. I think DC/WB did a better job kind of controlling the narrative during the critical period for this movie, they seemed VERY defensive when it came to the climate around BvS, and it felt like they kind of just let this one ride which for some reason just feels better. All in all, it's VERY cool that Smith and Robbie are players in the DCU. You add that to a really nice Wonder Woman trailer, and an Aquaman who I think is going to crush it, things are looking up, though I'm still not excited for another Snyder film.
  3. Was really just a removal of the career comic people from the successful film franchises. They essentially just removed the films from under the Marvel Entertainment imprint, and made it its own thing, ala Lucasfilm and Pixar. Most of the people comic book fans are familiar with Joe Q, Loeb, Axel and the creators who were on the creative board work for or are executives or VP's of Marvel Entertainment and now have nothing really to do with Marvel Studios. Seem like a natural progression, it was kind of ridiculous that such a huge moneymaker was being overseen by the guy who oversaw television and the comics. Feige doesn't report to the Disney board, nobody really does that, he reports to Alan Horn, who is the the head of Walt Disney Studios, and thus oversees the other bosses of their own fiefdoms (like Kathleen Kennedy and Lasseter) I suspect beyond Permutter's oddities, they were also eyeing Feige contract status. This is a guy that can probably demand any job in town, and there were rumblings he was going to leave during the making of Civil War. This is my speculation, but I suspect they'd like to retain Feige, whether at Marvel Studio or maybe even at Lucasfilm, as Kennedy is a bit old and Feige has expressed he's a fan of the franchise. It's hard to say right now and we don't really know the overall Disney plan of succession with Iger's contract coming up and no clear successor for one of the biggest jobs in the world in place.
  4. Love Dan Stevens from Downton Abbey, gives me a lot of confidence in this show.
  5. Maybe my favorite netflix original thus far, and the only one I binged completely on first sit. It's not perfect, though a lot of the peripherals (tone, costuming, setting) are so good it makes up for it. So well cast, and my only gripe is just a personal preference one I guess, where I wish it was more sf/f-tinged kids adventure than the turn to more horror it became. I kind of felt, oddly, that part of the story didn't interest me, and I mirror what most people are saying about Ryder's performance. That type of character (the hysterical person that other people don't understand), even when narratively understandable, is one that I find grating.\ Great child casting though, and one of the first things I noticed was that everyone in this show has really unique facial features and not really going for kind of vanilla template I feel like a lot of casts slot themselves as.
  6. That's pretty big, that series has been mired in rights litigation forever.
  7. I think it was at 72 or 73% last weekend. I think you are right. Rotten Tomatoes doesn't maintain some trending charts on those stats. I think the high water mark for fans on RT was 85% on Wednesday or Thursday last week. It was 73% by the end of the weekend. I also agree that the fan that has been awaiting the movie for years is much more likely to be forgiving, and the general audience is more likely to listen to critics and be harsher on the film. So the drop makes sense. I'd throw out there that the general audience probably doesn't listen to critics either, but they listened to their more hardcore friends who saw it opening week who told them what they thought of it. Word of mouth.
  8. I did not realize that. Why that long-awaited Preacher TV series doesn't involve DC Comics Very interesting Depending on when they signed their deal with Vertigo, and perhaps who the creators are at the time, their deals regarding adaptations are different. Some were first rights, some had to have some sort of level of production in play at a certain period of time, some were based on years, and some I've heard outright own their stuff, and some others are related to if the printed material is still in print. While not Vertigo, this is the beef Alan Moore always had with Watchmen because apparently he thought their was a verbal agreement to allow the rights to revert to him in Gibbons, but DC has kept that book in print forever, allowing them to contractually control it (according to him). On the other end you have had Gaiman state many times that DC owns Sandman outright. This is why you've always seen a bit of a in-battle between DC proper and Vertigo, particularly under Didio, and why a lot of people went to Image where creators own everything outright. We eventually saw perhaps the most critically acclaimed editor in comics history (and a fine eye for talent) get ousted when the New52 started. I know that a couple years ago BKV started that WB had only a brief time left to put a Y: The Last Man movie in production before the rights revereted back to him and Pia, which they have since. The last time we had a shot was with Dan Trachtenberg, who went on to direct Cloverfield Lane (and did a great job IMHO) instead (though at the time it was under a code name),
  9. I think one of the keys, or at least an element to look to, is that WB lost the rights to Preacher's tv/film rights, and Ennis/Dillon were able to take it where they wanted to.
  10. I was going to to go to SXSW and watch this but I had scheduling conflict come up. I do know several people who watched it though, and not one of them isn't glowing about it, though none of them have read the comics. General buzz online seems to be positive too. I think AMC needs something to go along with Walking Dead. They've had some quality programming but nothing seems to have stuck in what would be there kind of 2nd wave after becoming the place where (I think) the biggest show on cable is.
  11. I wonder if it can catch ASM. That Burton Batman sticks out though. It's not something I really like but that budget, that Box office, not to mention the licensing aspect because that bat symbol was everywhere back then. Look at Men in Black too. That good '90s $.
  12. Loved it. In fact, that movie has one of the more memorable openings to me (poison etc), and from the beginning to the crash, really a nice entry into a movie for me.
  13. Really mining that Game of Thrones cast. Can't really complain about that.
  14. A bunch of pics from filming: http://io9.gizmodo.com/see-bendict-cumberbatchs-doctor-strange-take-the-street-1768683404?
  15. Critics may have liked Nolan simply because he's a quality filmmaker. While I agree with that, I do think he feels over conflated because he has a a HARDCORE following that's super annoying if you say anything that's not Nolan-Worship online. That said, he's definitely on another level (thus far) over Snyder. The catalog at this point speaks for itself. Do we not thing given the same cast, same -script, and Nolan directed this film, it wouldn't probably, hypothetically, be better?
  16. There's a lot of ways to define 'better' I never said the word better or made any comment regarding quality. That said, if box office was used as "the people have spoken" and this is a great movie, why is it not the case if it falls on its face after word of mouth occurs (and I'm not saying it has, the numbers are not official). Also, I was more commenting on just how incredible Deadpool has to be for Fox, made at such a cheap price. Apocalypse is a now incredibly exciting (not that it wasn't to begin with) just to see what the next "phase" seems to be for them. Very forward thinking to rethink Gambit (though the reported budget was always insane for that film). I'm not sure if the official final budget has been released for BatmanvSuperman though reports indicated it was quite high. That stuff for a movie likes this is always a wash for me though, just due to the licensing aspect of known commodities. It's not like say John Carter.
  17. Bosco, when you can can you run the numbers via your tabulations because i'm seeing on twitter that people are reporting Deadpool had a stronger second week than BatmanVSuperman. Not sure if it's an April Fool's belated thing because if that's true that's BONKERS.
  18. Here's what Synder said back in January regarding the trailers: So where was the "lot of movie" that wasn't in the trailer? Extra footage doesn't equate "lots of movie" that folks don't already know about. Sure you can say there's alot more fighting....but enough to justify the quote? How about those scenes of the Justice League.....yeah, a bit extra....but we knew they'd be there. How about more WW dialogue....nope we saw that in the trailers...and pretty much all the dialogue that Luthor has as well. The only thing I didn't see in the trailers was Scoot McNairy.....and his nonsensical role. BTW: what horsecrap he was feeding us back in 2014 regarding his role: http://www.comicbookmovie.com/batman_vs_superman/scoot-mcnairy-hints-that-batman-v-superman-dawn-of-justice-a106387 Well, maybe he was talking about the uncut version though I think at that point the film was film, it had already been rated, etc. This film had been pretty much on a shelf for awhile before release, remember it was pushed back,. I will say this though, and even as not really a fan of his work, that's what he should come out and say as really the head of this corporate property with so much expectations. He's the "leader" of this thing as the director and he was asked a question and he's not going to throw people under the bus (like when Johns said Green Lantern was good for instance, that's what he's supposed to do). The other way is to be like Trank and disavow the film, which I think all of us would agree, mess movie or not, you don't do as a young director. The release dates were changed from July 2015 to May 2016 to March 2016, correct? Yes. This movie was in the can and rated I think last fall or around that time. Regarding opinions from people that don't think a film is an obvious all time masterpiece and their motivations in how long they seem to share them, well, I point to the Force Awakens thread where people who didn't like it wouldn't shut up about it, apparently because people dared to enjoy it. It's just what people do, it's the internet. And that movie is going to be more successful than this one, and way better reviewed. That said, I don't think there is an issue with actual discussion and sharing of opinions but there is incredible hyperbole when we are talking about fans are paid off, have stock options they think are effected by a low traffic forum, and critics are paid by Disney but not by the other multibillion dollar corporation.
  19. If you exclude Wonder Woman, I more excited to see this movie than BvS (though I was certainly anticipating it too). Reshoots happens a lot on a lot of movies, and I'd rather a studio be flexible like this barring crazy scenarios like FF. The timing, I will admit, is a little dubious though. And with Batman in this thing, it's must watch for me anyway considering how awesome he was, Plus, we know that Ayer is working on another project with Big Willie Style (with Joel Edgerton too) for netflix so one would assume there wasn't a cast/director issue.

  21. Don't get too excited to start slapping those 3X market price tags on the bags just yet. Fox Debunks 'NEW MUTANTS' Casting Rumors Where there is smoke there usually is fire. I'd be shocked if the rumors don't turn out to be true. How I feel too. Something close will happen soon, closer to X-Men: Apocalypse maybe.
  22. I love that Wonder Woman is a current pop culture thing again, and looking good doing it. My reaction was very similar to seeing Spider-Man, even if just for a moment, back where he belongs
  23. Jena Malone's scenes were cut and she will be in the extended edition
  24. Well he did more than that. Kevin Smith took the -script to Harvey Weinstein personally, who ended up buying it from Castlerock, who were about to dump both Damon and Affleck, because they had bought the -script from them outright and technically didn't need them anymore and they were having creative issues regarding who would direct and star in it. Smith saw it, loved it, had pull with Harvey and used it to get that movie made in the form we saw it.
