    Whatdya wanna know?

Oh, nothing too difficult.  Although earlier today, I was pondering this as I walked to the mailbox:

Suppose a piece of solid bismuth weighing 27.7 g at a temperature of 253 °C is placed in 277 g of liquid bismuth at a temperature of 333 °C. Calculate the temperature after thermal equilibrium is reached, assuming no heat loss to the surroundings. The enthalpy of fusion of solid bismuth is ΔHfus = 11.0 kJ mol–1 at its melting point of 271 °C, and the molar heat capacities CP of solid and liquid bismuth are 26.3 and 31.6 J K–1 mol–1, respectively.

  2. All blanks like this are cardstock.  Whether or not they are great for inking or using watercolor etc. is a different story.  Ask any comic artist which bristol board that they prefer over another, and it is a rabbit hole, especially since there are so many different brands of black/india ink that flow and absorb into the different bristol boards differently.  I'm sure many bigger artists have done commssions on these blanks and know what ink(s) and other media works best on them.  Not sure if every publisher that produces blanks uses the same cardstock/bristol for the cover.

The blanks aren't just for swipes.  They are for whatever you want an artist to put on them, really.

  3. This was a topic in another thread concerning the controversial Alf #48 seal humping cover.  The Cerebus in Hell Alien Life Cerebus humps seal cover homage.  The Cerebus book has only 2379 copies printed per the notation on the top left cover of book next to the price/logo box:

    Spoiler

Cerebus in Hell Presents Alien Life #1

Some $20+ sales now and $40+ asking prices with only a couple of sellers having stock on Ebay:

    Interesting.

I'm currently in the early stages of writing a novel. I'm a white male. I want one of the main characters to be a black woman. It's a period piece (early 20th century, southern USA), so I'm also struggling with the use of a "forbidden" racial epithet in some of the dialogue.

Given today's climate, I'm scared that this will give publishers a reason to reject me. I'm also worried about the potential backlash that could come from the "mis-characterization" of race. On the other hand, I would like to include a little bit of diversity (all the other characters are white) to connect with a wider audience.

I feel like I'm screwed if I do and screwed if I don't. A really precarious and downright silly situation.

In the end, the only way I will succeed is to remain true to my own creation. I must speak without censorship in order to maintain authenticity as an artist. The chips fall where they may.

All goes back to this: does the artist create art as a cathartic expression, thereby serving himself? Or does the artist create art specifically for mass consumption, making compromises in the original vision?

    Rock and a hard place.

In today's world you can't win.  You don't include every race and made up gender in a story you create, and you are a bigot, -ist and/or -phobe.  You do write them in and mischaracterize a certain group because you have not had enough actual life experiences interacting with said people, and you are a bigot, -ist and/or -phobe.  I have literally had multi-hit acid trips :insane: that were less bonkers than the world around us at this juncture.

It comes down to this.  Write what you want and are comfortable with.  The ivory towers of the mentally deranged will crumble under their own weight soon. We have the 1st Amendment for a reason, and there is also a reason why it is the 1st Amendment and not the 10th.

  5. I have a decent collection of early 90's death metal on cassette.  I did know that certain cassettes were somewhat valuable, but only thought so due to the underground nature and rarity of some of them.  In the late 80's to early 90's I gave a huge stack of hard rock/hair band cassettes to my cousins husband.  Probably about 40 cassettes ranging from Aerosmith, Cinderella, Bon Jovi, Poison, Def Leppard and Motley Crue etc.  Like everyone said though, they do wear out very easily.  I still have all my mid/late 90's to early 2000's underground dance music vinyl in my climate controlled storage room (again I did know that some of them have becom a bit expensive in good shape).  I would never sell my vinyl or death metal cassettes at this juncture.  Agreed though, vinyl is the best medium IMO due to the warmth of the sound, and the requisite pops and crackles inherent on them.

I had my shop pull a copy because Jack White fans and most music fans can be a bit nuts with collecting their stuff.

I don’t feel comfortable stating how much I paid for the Deftones screaming kitty promo tape for their first album with two songs on it back in the day (~2003 or 2004), so I guess I can relate to some of these people. Granted, it did have an unreleased Smiths cover (up to that point)…but still. lol

Not sure if I feel worse for what i paid for it in 2003-2004, or for what it potentially sells for now since I sold it a while ago (pre-covid, pre-cassette revival)

Wait, there is a cassette revival?

I have 2 copies of the 1st print I couldn’t give away for $3

I too believe I have 2 copies of that either in my PC or overflow inventory boxes.  If in my PC they will be easy to locate.  If in my inventory boxes, I know for sure they are not databased as I checked my inventory app.  Do not know if I will even dig for this if the latter is the case. $8-10 for a book that by the time I get around to finding will be $2 again.
