I'm a bit embarrassed to say, just under $100. Sold it on Ebay in the early 2000s, probably at the lowest point of the TMNT's popularity. I picked it up from Chris Allan himself at a con in '94 (he had quite a bit of covers for sale at that time, wish I'd picked up more). Unfortunately, I haven't seen this one since selling it and have no clue where it's at today.

That hurt me to read it. 😭

What a great cover though, I'm sure it's somewhere in good hands.

Heads up, I just got wind of a new 1st print, 6.0 white pages, coming to market.  As I understand it, this is from the original owner.  If anyone's looking, PM me.

    Update:  SOLD

Would you mind sharing what the sale price was?

Very pretty, is this your book? Weeks, ur months, oh hell days ago I would have laughed at a quarter of a million for this book. Now not so much.

Wasn't the last high 9.8 sale $245,000? That was a few months ago at Comic Connect.

Except the part where Spiderman is the biggest character in comics and always will have staying power the turtle book two years ago in 9.0 was 5K. It went up abnormally as did many others we don’t know what the fallout is going to be just yet . It’s a cool book but I don’t see turtles popularity today as I did when I was kid in 80s and early 90s. That success is long gone . Is rarity dictating price? Not sure . It’s a cool book I just have hard time seeing you compare them to Spiderman who’s is the absolute top of the mountain when it comes to comics and always will be .

I think it's a pretty fair comparison, considering where they are in their life cycle. Do I think TMNT #1 will get to AF 15 prices? Probably not but it's still the biggest Copper Age book out there, with a small print run and many collectors (like myself) that will never sell their copies. I think the demand will always be there.

Sold my original 9.8 years ago to Adam thinking it'd be easy to get another...little did I know the census would barely budge on this this book after all these years. So I gave up on looking for one and figured I'd just get a 9.6 or so at some point. No rush since in lower grades was fairly readily available. I still may settle for a 9.6 on this book as I'm still mainly collecting art (the original reason I sold in the first place...) but for now at least a 9.8 is back in the collection. :)

So happy to finally get another to pair with the original cover art I own as well. Screenshot_20211117-204952_eBay.thumb.jpg.6dc06725e1447fdfa218b3d7017c7d3c.jpg

Congrats! I've been looking for that book too. Where were you lucky enough to score that one?

Those 3 books are so tough to find in 9.8 condition, or acquire 9.8 slabbed.
    Congrats on your book!!🤘

Thank you! I read your registry about your journey in getting your TMNT run and all the people that helped you along the way. Epic!

I love the hunt and it's so much fun meeting people that also enjoy the Turtles and I'm very appreciative of the help along the way to getting this far with my run. Hopefully one day I can finish the run, but like you said those last few issues will be tough.

    I'm familiar with that one.

I thought the other guy was saying another 9.8 was coming up for an auction.

My bad, I miss read your comment. I think that one is at comic connect too.

Personally, I think these sky rocketing price were unsustainable and are settling back down to more realistic prices. I think the 9.8 will go between $150 - $180k.

Still amazing price gains compared to a few years ago.

When you do find these last three have you completed the run of 9.8’s?

Yes, I'd have the entire main run, except for the #1 for first print.

I'm also collecting just the main run and not all the reprints. I have a couple, but I got a good deal on those and not actively buying them.

Also putting it out there if anyone wants to help me get those last 3 issues, shoot me a DM. 😎🙏

I don't have a solution, but an observation/question - is this an airtight case? I ask because we have a fire safe for important documents, etc., and I noticed that if we don't open it for a long time, the documents have a weird "damp" feeling to them, like the safe is retaining humidity inside it...

I believe it is an airtight case. That was one of the reasons I wanted to get input here. I know people say that sometimes keeping the books in a safe causes staple rust.

I am honestly not fishing for offers so please don't PM me asking for a price, etc.  I'm looking for some advice because I am paralyzed by the thought of selling a collectible at this dollar amount.

If you were going to sell your #1 first print, where would you sell it?  I have a CGC 6.5 I'm probably going to sell soon.  I have been looking around and I definitely don't trust eBay with a transaction that large.  Heritage seems like the process will take months.  My main concern is fraud so waiting a few months isn't necessarily a deal breaker.  I also thought about a local sale (meeting at a bank, etc).  But I'm not sure how to get the word out to local buyers.  Has anyone here sold one and how did you do it?

I would also suggest mycomicshop. They sold several copies recently for great money and were gone within hours.

Or post it in the sales forum and see if a buyer comes who's trust worthy on the boards with good rep. That's how I recently bought my copy from Jeranimal. If I hadn't bought his I'd probably be messaging you right now. LOL.

    Good luck with the sale.
