As long as they're tiny and there are no other problems, a book could still score in the lower Near Mint range with stress lines like this. Keep in mind it also depends upon the length and severity of the stress lines...
Ok makes sense thanks

New to the grading thing, couple questions .
What grade would this get with a press ?
And it has a Starlin signature , I believe that it is authentic so should I get it graded through cbcs signature verification?
Did the signature acually hurt the value since it isnt verified? ( I believe it is authentic)
Thanks

I'm going to say it would be in the low 9's, like 9.2 +/-.
I'm sure you will get a variety of estimates, some as low as 7.0 because "that's what they do". You'll have to do a lot of filtering.
Yes some of the super low grade estimates make me laugh .

Its a common amount of damage that I see on books these little micros spine color breaks and wanted to have an idea how much they cost a grade in general .

Is there some damage below the staple too?

The book is a 6.5, but was awarded .5 for the Marvel chipping isn't a defect at this grade rule, .5 for the comic more than 50 years old rule, and .5 for the coin flip when on the grade bubble rule.
This made me laugh

Yes I didnt realize there was such a difference in pressing capabilities, the ability to do good work seems to be the most important thing .

Ithaca is pretty awesome yes , and spring is right around the corner haha .
Yes was hoping for someone local because I am just learning about grading and its always best to talk to someone in person ,
plus the whole big turnarond time for pressing and then big turnaround time for grading .
If I could cut two months off for pressing , plus save shipping , plus talk to someone in person , plus learn something it is just a huge win .

Yes Purpose was to send them to be graded after .

Just got correspondence from Hero saying they are not doing the comprehesive grading right now , just the minimum screen.

Wondering if anyone knows a good presser and cleaner around Ithaca New York?

Many years ago, long before CGC existed, the consensus was that since so many SA Marvels suffered from this defect, that it wouldn't knock the grades as much. By the time I started collecting bigtime in the mid-1970s, it was the industry standard.
I think there are a few examples of CGC allowing a defect in some modern books, based on paper stock issues and such, but I don't really collect or deal in modern books
Gotcha

It really shouldn't have anything to do with the fact that the book is a classic or not. The leniency would likely be directed toward the light chipping and tearing on the right edge of the front cover, which is a very common flaw on many Silver Age Marvels. And it's sometimes easy to see books in the holder and question the grade because the flaws are in plain sight, but as a buyer it can be very helpful. In this case, no grading notes are needed...
Makes sense thanks

I hear what your saying.
Now would this same logic apply to a book from the last 20 years in this same condition or is there some leniency because it is such a classic?

Curious as to what the flaws were that detracted from a 9.4 or above on this book?

Literally no way to appraise with only 1 image.
Yes Im just curious how much the single blemish hurts the grade, cant get more pics right now .
I realize a complete grade cant be given but hypothetically say it was around an 8-9 without the scuff, how much
would the scuff lower it?
Thanks

If it’s across the country and you haven’t collected in many years, why are you even considering this?
are you trying to restart your collection or turn a profit? And does shipping across country make it tougher for you to buy? This all matters
I got caught up in the excitement and dare i say momentum of seeing books and the mystery of it all if that makes sense.
I would say I am a bit interested in both . I do need to get some of my books graded and pressed so have been looking at good pressers and educating
myself on the grading process. Sorry Jumping around a bit here.
I thought I could get a good deal and have some fun in the process and some of the books looked promising and they were some of the ones I remember and I figured if it was a great price , why not .
So yes maybe jumping the gun a bit.
Please Grade my batman 423 and advise what to do with a signature
in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
