  1. The problem is your thinking. There IS a standard. CGC has set it. If your personal grader is not meeting the standard then he/she is not a good grader. It's a harsh reality to accept, but loving comics does not entitle you to good grades on them. Everyone who takes an interest in truly high grade books goes through an adjustment period learning the ins-and-outs of CGC style grading. Either accept that there is a standard and put in the time to at least become comfortable with it, or quit grinching. What you want already exists. Embrace it. Or don't.
  2. I've never seen this cover before but am completely in love with it. What a fantastic book! 'gratz -Rob-
  3. Well- renovations in the comic room are finally just about done! I got a ton of good help (both design and implementation) from my wife who has *gasp* a bunch of comics in the room too. (I'm still steamed that she now has 2 CGC awards and I have none.) Anyway, here's the pics. Wall by closet with Galactus and Powers art Display case in the corner next to closet with my Heroclix and some sweet 9.8 Spideys and Romita Sr signature Spideys Had trouble getting pictures because the shelves go up to the ceiling where a lot of my funnybooks are. But here they are with the "feature wall" (I watch Trading Spaces ) of OA and our TV for watching cartoons. (Which is the secondary purpose of the office.) Spidey Futon on opposite wall ...And the GA/SA comics above it ...And my Garney and Trimpe sketches to the left Thanks for letting me share gang. Put a TON of work into this today and it's nice to be able to post up here as a "reward". Still probably catch some spackle on the walls in a couple of the pics. Am going to try and touch up the paint there before people come by this weekend. Since I've already spammed this thread here's a couple of pics of my bookends "Lady Death" and "Purgatory"
  4. Kudos to THE_BEYONDER for a sweet 9.8 Spidey WTC issue. Centered perfectly in the CGC slab too. (Which he did have something to do with since we didn't use the mail to take care of the transaction.) Thanks buddy-- I love the book.
  5. Kudos to FT88 for some great books. Packaged well, shipped fast, and all that good stuff! Really appreciate it!
  6. Annoyance level of new banner: 15 Approx number of users seeing it: 1000 Total annoyance: 15 x 1000 = 15,000 Possibility of prevention of scam, flame wars or heated threads: 0.08 Annoyance level of any of the above: 500 Number of affected: 100 Total Annoyance: 0.08 x 500 x 100 = 4000 Ergo: lose the banner. SUMMER GLAU (Inspired by XKCD.com humor) at http://www.xkcd.com/406/ Measurement of the over-reaction of some members on the rictor scale to having to look at a temporary few pixel high notice... I dunno. Something high. Relax. Drink less coffee? People like to whine here. Get with the program. (thumbs u At least the whining seems to have resulted in the obnoxious font size being changed. Egad that was huge.
  7. Wow that sounds like a blast! Nice pics too!
  8. This is a cool book. Do you have any other books in the run?
  9. nickwire and ciorac-- great great pics Congrats nick on a fine looking room Ciorac-- do you have pics of rest of room? (I see a Green Lantern book so I'm assuming there's more.) Regards on the Whiz. That's a grail I'll likely not attain, and it appears to be a truly nice copy. Displays REALLY well.
  10. Kudos to comicdey and divad for fast payments on recent purchases. I should've posted up before they posted their kudos but I've had alot going on (wife in hospital-- twice) and really spaced and didn't post it. (Unless I did and already forgot. In which case apologies for the double post.) Kudos to an unnamed 3rd party as well for the same. I did manage to get the Witchblade OA I was after and it wouldn't have happened without the fine people above.
  11. This is just plain cool. Nice twist on a Hitler cover and a Trolley to boot.
  12. (worship) It's beautiful. I can only imagine how nice the pages must be as obviously Okajimas have notoriously great pages. Thanks for posting it. I would ask if you happen to remember this post-- if you ever sell I would greatly appreciate dibs. This is actually the only Okajima "Boy" I've seen.
  13. Print comic on cheapest paper possible. Store haphazardly for 60 years. And you are surprised at cr-ow pages? P.S. Congratulations on you new "Boy". Thanks And no I'm not surprised
  14. Well, I've really gotten into this particular series. The thing that seems most apparent is that-- there's not a ton of copies that have been submitted of any issue. I have a few nice ones that I'm going to slab this year (one I have very high hopes for.) I don't know if the lack of HG slabs is due to them being rare or not. I know at conventions I can find Boy Comics at will, but they average around 2.0-4.0 when I find them. The HG copies I've obtained all came from major dealers like Metro and Harley Yee. I just can't seem to find them in-grade otherwise. (Even EBay has been a disappointment in this regard.) Finding them with good PQ is also problematic, it seems. This Crowley is C/OW, although that's to be expected as Crowleys don't have killer PQ in the first place. But buying raw books it seems even the nice ones don't have much better than ow/w PQ. I don't know what the demand is for them, though. If more people bought them obsessively like I've been doing, I bet more nice copies would turn up! -Rob-
  15. This arrived today and I couldn't be happier. It's my first pedigree purchase. It's also in a 3-way tie for top of the census at 9.0. Boy Comics 27 Crowley Copy -Rob-
  16. This is quite a story. I just couldn't go on posting in this thread without acknowledging this somehow. Congrats on your acquisition. (I'm late to the party, but this post got my attention.) -Rob-
  17. Fortunately I love my job, my boss is the greatest guy in the world, all my co-workers are swell, and I never go onto these boards during work hours. But are you really in Hong Kong...
  18. I just personally think it's funny that people still think they have private information. I mean outside little bedroom secrets or the pack of gum you might've taken from the five-and-dime as a kid... that's really it. Doesn't matter whether you post it here or not. Heck, even posting a divorce-- that's public domain once papers are filed. It's not like griping about it here is even half as bad as apeparing on "Divorce Court". And unless you're a recluse-- people see you and your family near every day. Not any worse posting the pic here. I mean, I guess guard your address and CC info, obviously. But even that is out there for the taking. I see where you're coming from on this. But I can't recall having seen anything posted on the forums that was a "dangerous" post to make.
  19. I don't collect GoldKeys, but I can't tell you how jealous I am. That's an amazing pickup. Congratulations!
  20. His right hand--! I'm so juvenile. I wish you hadn't pointed that out. !!
  21. Kudos to comicdey and divad for lightening fast payment. It's always a pleasure to trade with you guys. -Rob-
