  1. These pre-hero marvels have always been one on my favorites to collect and read. I have a pretty decent collection of them but I have to bow down here (worship) to Cheetah and Korvac for some unbelievable books. I'm amazed that copies of these issues can still come back 8.5 and 9.0. So many had the dreaded Marvel chipping and pre-chipping on them. Great books guys.

  2. I'm a pretty laid-back person, but I'd be very tempted to break silveracre's nose if I ever met him face to face.

Just make sure you count your fingers afterwards.

lol I've only had one dealing with the guy, and that was enough . . .

Just got home and caught up on this thread. Thanks for the info everyone. Another turd-of-misery added to my list of who not to ever deal with. (thumbs u

  3. Thought Id ask this general question, but I think I already know the answer. I have been working on finishing my entire basement over the last year and a half. Full 18' wet bar, with back bar, nice bathroom, drop ceiling, the works. I am going to use the back room and make for my comics, and then the wife brought up a disturbing point. I have two teen-age daughters. They both like to have friends over now and hang in the basement. Two large plasma t.v.s. lots of room. But,..........my wife says, "you going to put those books down there with your slabs on the walls with all those kids going down there". AAAAAAAAAAArgh. Didnt think of that. So, being a decent carpenter and handyman, I was thinking about making some nice wood cabinets that would hold 12 short boxes, with doors on the front that i could put a lock on and keep the snooping kids out when no ones around. ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS DILEMA. I know I like to trust kids to an extent, but theres always temptation when no ones around. hm

If there's a door leading to this backroom, maybe you should consider adding a dead-bolt lock as well. That way you can keep it open when you're at home but locked when the daughters have guests over.

No door or even a wall. Its all open. Didnt want it to look boxed in. Guess I'll have to build some cabinets. I looked at some of the pre-fab ones at Lowes and Home

Depot. Just chip board garbage, and I dont like the way they look anyway.

Have you considered locking file cabinets?

Well, thats an idea. Id have to look and see the dimensions and how many books I could fit into one. I like the idea of building something that would match the rest of the basement, trim wise and such. I also thought that if i made some thing it would have removable shelving inside to lighten it up in case I have to move it.

Check page 135 of this thread for Mschmidt's comic room. Super clean and great use of file cabinets. What will you do about securing comics you'd like to display?

Thats another good question. I already have put a few things on the walls down there. I have an original sketch Mart Nodell did for me and signed in 84 i believe. Also a nice Green Hornet poster signed by Van Williams. Just a few odds and ends, but I would like to eventually hang some slabs, but not til I figure a way they wont walk out the door.

  7. Great Books. I'm glad you posted that Tales to Astonish #7. Something always struck me funny on that issue and I thought Id bring it up. The cover picture with the thing on Bald Mountain. In the inside story, theres nothing that even looks like that, let alone a castle with the head being on a rope. I always wondered if there was a different version of the cover or something and it got mixed up when it went to print. (shrug)

  8. Hey guys... just thought I'd suggest a slight change in the format for our Probation List... whatcha think?

    ^^

I like your suggestion as to categorize everyone together as probation members versis distinguishing root cause makes it easier to determine what the issue was that got them on the list.

I kind of like it too. But for misconduct concerning big amounts of money, or any amount actually, the amounts should be posted. Why should Alley-Bat be alone on the list. Thats discrimination!! lol

  9. I am done defending myself because there is nothing to defend!

The decription of each long box is exactly as described and I even added the Heroes Inc #1's as padding for free.

I am sorry if there weren't comics of expectation for some buyer.

Each and every box had Marvel and DC comics, not more than 5 of the same issue per box, all VG to VF/NM, all 1970's Bronze.

Again I have about 700 water damaged bronze comics that anyone can have if they choose.

I've not received mine yet, but just because you're acting this way, I'll document mine from receipt, to opening the box, and show pictures of everything I get in it.

I'm not saying that I've been scammed because I've not received them yet, but I'll have plenty of evidence to back it up either way. This is for my protection because someone is not telling the truth, you...or everyone else. We'll see who it is.

I cant wait for your review, and the pics. :foryou:

  10. I think it's pretty clear what happened: the content of the boxes were exaggerated, the condition was exaggerated, and the boxes were cherry picked.

Ive read this thread from the get go. I agree with the above poster. I dont know anyone, and I mean anyone who buys boxes in quantity, that doesnt look through them. Its just human nature, and the thrill of possibly finding something in there. Ive bought back stocks and such of up to 40 boxes and looked through every one, period. You just never know what could be in there that someone missed, and Ive found plenty of nice books in the garbage. I hate to see this popping up on these boards. E-bay and Craiglist are becoming notorious for daily scams and . I dont want to see it starting to spill onto these boards. There needs to be a line drawn, period. Cross the line, your fricking out.

I just received word that I have a pending $16.86 paypal refund from CAP Freak :o

(he still owes me $1, though)

Yep, I'm pretty shocked as well.

Still doesn't change a thing, though.

Hope you get you money, but it still wont wash the bad taste out of anyones mouth.Wait.....................that somehow didnt sound right. lol

  12. Agree with you both, 30 days is too long -- but if buyers and sellers were publicly "outed" after a week or two, there would be a lot more arguments, and this thread will get a whole lot longer!

If a seller took that long to ship something to me, or a buyer took that long to pay me (absent any reasonable communication), believe me, I'd be chomping at the bit to report them -- and this is not entirely a hypothetical. But at the same time, I can respect that the 30-day mark is an effort to find the balance of preserving a sense of community here.

I see your point and it is well taken. Lets try and look at it if your selling, and someone wins a book. O.K. Someone win a book on E-Bay or on the boards. Now what. Oh, Ill send payment when I get around to it? I have to pay my bills for the month first? I forgot to send payment? A family crisis? I no longer want the book? Any of these could be a legitimate excuse. But most of the time, they're not, and we know it. It comes back to my own opinion, when I bid on something, I want it. I have the money for it. Thats it, end of story. I pay immediatley or within a day or two. Its good for everyone on both ends of the deal. Thirty days is way more than enough time to be waiting and waiting. I think its being way more than generous. Now if you work out a deal with the seller, or ask for more time, thats another story. Just my 2c:foryou:

  13. Or to recieve one.. :sumo:

Seriously though, I agree with the thought process of what is acceptable turnaround.

I've paid for books within the hour of receiving the payment instructions PM, waited a week, and then I'll check in with the seller asking for the tracking information. It's annoying when they come back with "Sorry, been busy. I'll get it out soon."

I think even 30 days is stretching the limit. If you cannot turn around and mail books within ONE WEEK of payment, maybe you should hold off selling until you can.

To each his own but when I was selling books on E-bay the auctions clearly state 'PAYMENT IS DUE WITHIN TEN DAYS OF NOTIFICATION". I think thats reasonable for someone to sit down, write a check, and crawl to the mailbox. And now with Paypal, how long should it take? Thirty days, to me is way to long on either end of the deal. Just my 2c.

  14. My scanner is garbage, I apologize for the scans but this is it. I recieved these back yesterday. My first submission to CGC. I want to thank Dice X and Divad for steering me in the right direction on slabbing. The Strange Tales #81 has been in my possession for over 25 years or better. It came back top edge trimmed. I guess there were butchers in the hobby back then to. I was really surprised. The Strange Tales #84 was in the grading forum before I submitted these. Divad almost nailed it with his grade. All of these books came back .5 within my grades except fot the Astonish # 93. They hit it for the light crease on the bottom front corner. I have nothing but trouble with photobucket. I someone could tell me what the best size to load these would be, I would appreciate it. I dont have the time to experiment with what size to download these.
