Just got these in the mail...
(Thanks cd4ever for the Strange Adventures)

Great books as always, Atlas!
-
Awesome stuff, Atlas. Those are really hard to find!
-
Never seen that MGA 60. That's a very cool cover. Has a menacing edge to it that you don't normally see in DC's of that era.
-
Hey guys. I haven't seen very many of these, and none of this issue. Why the scarcity? They seem to be really undervalued as well. Thanks!
Great book!
All Challenger 10-centers seem to be fairly scarce. I'm always looking for them and they just don't come up.
-
Mark Shultz. I discovered his stuff a few months ago (yes, I'm completely clueless about anything past the 80's), and he is stunning. Great GGA in the old-time tradition!
-
As far as underrated, I'd say some of the most overlooked of the Bronze/copper would be:
Jeff Jones
Keith Giffen
Alex Nino
When I was buying off the rack I'd buy any comic they drew.
From the Atomic/Silver age, I'd say Mort Meskin and Ruben Moreira.
-
That's a great accomplishment, Silver! Congratulations!
I've always collected Action, for some reason, so many of those covers are completely new to me. It's like looking at a strange alternative universe where there's a whole new run of Superman 10 cent books.

Okay, so I read my new FF 25. What's with the "Bob Banner"? Did the Hulk have an identity crisis I don't know about???
I recall that Stan's "explanation" for his screw-up was something on the order of the following:
The good doctor's full name is Robert Bruce Banner, but he typically goes by his middle name.
It IS funny that Stan was so busy pumping out books that he couldn't even keep straight the name for the secret identity of one of his major characters.
Darn, I thought I had a rare variant.

Time to pop this thread up. I forgot my 27 in the picture. There are a couple I still need to upgrade, but here is a small group shot.
Great collection (he said enviously)!

The Silver Surfer-Galactus arc in FF 48-50.
Runners up:
Four Color 178, "Christmas on Bear Mountain" (first Uncle Scrooge).
Mystery in Space 75, Adam Strange/JLA crossover.
Warlock/Thanos story arc in Strange Tales and Warlock.

I'm sure this one's been posted before, but I recently posted it in the War thread, so why not here?
-
I don't think this one's made the thread. . .helluva tough book. Couldn't believe it when I finally scored this one.
There's a greytone Detective?
I love all the greytones, but there's something ultra-cool about the rare superhero greytones. I have to have this one.
-
Some "grey-area" grey-tones include this Dale Evans which is closer in style to the Adventure Comics 42 than to the stuff from the Silver Age.
Beautiful book, Mick!
Andy
Never seen that one. Thanks for posting it. Beautiful!

MMMMmmmm...
Just bought a much lower grade copy of this off ebay, and am awaiting its arrival. Gorgeous cover.
-
Westerns I just got, wow were they poorly packaged. I cringed. ( I have a secret)
What secret?
Cool books, by the way!
-
Gotta love this one. Does anyone know what's going on with this guy's hair?
-
Sorry, Highest Grade or not, that's not a good looking JLA #6. I don't get how that makes a 9.0 with such severe tanning. Maybe it's the scan?
Well, it looks flawless except for the tanning...but yeah, that bugs me too, not just because of the tanning, but because it's in the form of a "shadow".
It's hard to believe that a 9.2 has never shown up for this issue.

Say Hello to my little friend
(thumbs u Nice piece of history...you can sense the SA about to erupt!
-
Beautiful! My favorite cover of the original JLoA run. Creepy like something from classical mythology, no Superman or Batman dominating the team. Even the story's fun.
Jack
My favorite is #3 (it's got that classical mythology thing going too), but the whole early series is packed with classic covers.
Absolutely!
BB 28, JLoA 1, 3, 7, 9, 21, 29, 30...
Too bad people like to dump on Sekowsky, although I think the quality of the covers owes more than a little to Anderson's inks -- especially the JSA crossover covers.
Jack
I'm one of those who dump on Sekowsky, although he does grow on you a bit because he is the definitive JLA artist. I just can't help thinking what this series would have been like if Anderson had drawn the early issues...But I love the series despite its imperfections, and the covers are fantastic.
Anderson covers would have been even better (but sometimes I think Sekowsky just told him "ink a JSA member right there" on the crossover covers).
Jack
Anderson did quite a few of the early covers by himself, I'm pretty sure.
