Drool....

Got this awhile ago on Ebay and finally got it scanned. Always wondered how the league was formed...
-
In the Decade thread, but it belongs here too.
The Brave and the Bold 35, May 1961, 2nd SA Hawkman by Kubert, 1st Matter Master. Lots of minor defects, but quite a buy for $8.50!
Jack
I'll give you $9 for it!

What you're doing shows that there are probably a lot of high grade books out there of any given late SA Marvel issue.
well with the print runs of approx. 250,000 or so per Issue I must disagree with this assessment. VERY FEW high grades survived...
CAL who counts the numbers
Let's just say more than I personally would have thought.

Go to the grading thread to see more of Cheetah's beauties. Pretty amazing.
Thanks, man, it's nice to know good books are appreciated. Still can't believe I have them.
You have some incredible books. Would you mind sharing where they came from? Original owner collection maybe?
Fantastic stuff, hope you will post more!
OO collection that I got to cherry pick. It's possible some others may come up in the future. If they do, I'll post around the board to give people a heads up.
Oh, no need to post, just PM me and I will make sure they go to a good home (mine).
If you only knew the number of PMs people have already requested! Just as long as you are all in line behind me.
I'm sure the PMs started flying about two seconds after you hit submit on the first post with scans of them!
About right. They look very nice but the page quality isn't as good as it could be. They were stored in a warehouse for decades and have gotten pretty tanned. I think this is very noticeable when you compare a JIM 66 that AdamStrange posted versus mine:

That yellowing doesn't bother me in the least on an early SA book. Just makes it look it's age!

Congratulations on a great collection! What a run.
I have never seen that 2, and I have to say that is an absolutely beautiful Ditko cover. Stunning futuristic seen in the background, and a robot to boot!
-
(thumbs u Here's to many more! My favorite Silver Age DC series.
-
I was looking at those too. They're both beautiful!
-
I gotta have this one...

Many thanks for the kind comments, adamstrange, AtlasFan, JohnT, selegue, Sal, and Inaflash. I truly appreciate the opportunity to share my collection. These are definitely not undercopies, but I hope you'll enjoy them nonetheless.
One of the absolute best covers DC ever put out. Great book.
Agreed. I love how the airplane is just hanging in the air with that robot reaching for it. Talk about dramatic!
I'm going through sensory overload looking at these posts. Wonderful stuff.

Does anyone know the Mike of the Mike's Amazing World of DC Comics website?
Why has he let his superb site lapse?
He found paid work. A lot of development was done when he was out of work.
I haven't let the site lapse. It's been up and running as usual. I've continued to put in 20-40 hours a week on it just about every week for the last 10 years. I've also never been "out of work", I've held a real job the entire time.

It's my first resource on DC credits...

Clever secret identity for the Superman of the future.

Its no #4 but its all I can afford.
That's a NEVER seen issue in great condition. Element cover to boot. Wonderful!
Jack
What's "element cover"?
"oxygen"
And that's significant because....?
Because Jack co-hosts this website - Entry for Oxygen in the Periodic Table of Elements in Comic Books
Wow, must have been a lot of work to put that together! Interesting slant on comic collecting.

Congrats on a beautiful book, and a hard one to get. And that's a hell of a nice 5.5!

Yeah, but it's Teddie's...
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors Green Rivers.
Oh yes I shall...

Nice stuff. Love the Kirby cover on #18!
-
I don't collect high grade necessarily, so bring on those undercopies!

O.K., here's a Marvel guy stepping on some DC toes, but this is a serious question -- was there really a 'big event' continunity to reserve for the big books?
Are you kidding? There were always new super pets to introduce.
(He says that affectionately...)

I tried rescanning today and got the same effect. I think it is a combination of my scanner and the ink on the cover that makes it look wavy. Here are some pics I took with my digital camera and the back cover.
..and the back cover
My JLA 3 has the exact same waviness in the black ink. I'd say your copy is a 5.0, by the way.

My favorite is #3 (it's got that classical mythology thing going too), but the whole early series is packed with classic covers.
