  1. To be fair, your deal was with the carebear ID. I didn't know the two were linked until I saw the blitz of posting here earlier today. I'm sure there are plenty of other members who could say the same. Usually someone chimes in with a "Probation List Member" warning if they see activity in the Marketplace, just to warn unsuspecting sellers / buyers. That doesn't appear to have happened in your case either, so I don't think you need to beat yourself up over it.
  2. Mine arrived today as well. #170 with a Spidey head sketch.
  3. Kudos to rube11 for a great 9.2 WP copy of ASM #45 from this sales thread: ASM 45 Sales Thread Great communication + safely packaged + quick shipping = a 1st-rate transaction. Thanks again, Steve!
  4. Order placed! Probably the closest thing to a piece of vintage Romita Spidey OA that I'll ever be able to afford.
  5. Quite possibly my favorite book. Definitely on my "top ten desert island" list, along with Ivanhoe and Titus Groan / Gormenghast. I'm currently reading "Spud - The Madness Continues" by John van de Ruit. It's the second volume in the (fictional) diaries of a student at a South African boarding school during the early 90s. It's absolutely hilarious reading! I picked up the first volume in this series at the Cape Town airport a few years back and devoured it in one sitting during my flight to London. I understand the first book was also made into a movie with John Cleese, but I haven't been able to find a copy in Canada anywhere...
  6. Thanks. (thumbs u Looks like it's been sanitized to avoid controversy this time. Too bad, the previous one looked like a thread with huge entertainment potential.
  7. So what happened to that "comics for kids charity" sales thread? The one where the charitable organization hadn't been officially registered since 2010 and the seller's eBay account was selling jailbait porn star posters in addition to the comics listed here? It looked like it was shaping up to be awesome Friday entertainment, but I can't find any trace of it today... Did I miss a good flame war or did the mods yank the thread before the seller could come back to respond to the allegations?
  8. I did some digging, and as near as I can tell, the last time this topic was brought up was in mid-2008. It looks as if that debate lead to Arch creating the various Marketplace sub-forums. The arguments at the time for multiple threads were mostly people wanting to have: 1) Separate threads for GA / SA / BA / CA / Moderns, or 2) Separate threads for dollar bin material vs. high value keys. I'm pretty certain that the three thread rule-of-thumb I mentioned earlier was from the old days when we had a single sales forum in the Marketplace. Re-reading the 2008 debate, it seemed that even then, some people thought three threads were too many. I'd say two threads per sub-forum should be okay, but only if there's a very good reason to separate material. Perhaps we might want to conduct a poll of regular marketplace users to see what is acceptable?
  9. Depends... I thought the unwritten rule-of-thumb was no more than three threads at any time, and even then only if the items in each thread were sufficiently different from the other(s) as to warrant being on their own. For example, selling a high-grade AF#15 in one thread and a bunch of junk SA/BA readers in a separate thread would be fine by me. However, selling three commonplace books in three different threads would be a waste of front-page real estate... Actually, I don't think that's ever been accepted practice (at least, I don't do it). I thought you were only supposed to have one sales thread per forum on the front page (i.e.: one modern thread, one mixed thread and one GA/SA/BA thread. Once your thread drops off the front page, you could start another one. That's how I always thought it was supposed to work. Multiple threads are allowed. Item #2 on Arch's usage rules states "Group your for sale items into as few threads as is reasonable." The problem is that the rules are a bit vague on what constitutes "few" and "reasonable". I thought the last time this came up (which was a long time ago), the consensus was that "few" could mean as many as three, but only if the items were substantially different from one thread to the next. However, I may very well be wrong. Someone with a better memory than myself might want to chime in... EDIT - You know, the more I think about it, the more I think that the last time this was an issue was before the "For Sale" forum was split into separate categories. I'm not sure whether that three thread rule-of-thumb would still apply now... Personally, I'd be okay with two threads in the same sub-forum under the right circumstances.

  11. Were the Dr Frank and Muscleshark accounts ever banned or is he just a two-time HOS shill? I don't think so. Weren't they strikes? Looks like you're right... I've just been going through the stike / name changes sub-forum (some amusing memories dredged up there). A couple of strikes for each of the Frank and Shark names but no bans that I could see. I assume that's why this incarnation hasn't been hit by moderator action already, then? TPTB are a bit more lax on shills if only one account is active and the member has never been banned?

  13. Damn, I'd forgotten all about those. I had one when I was a kid. Great fun... I'd love to see some photos of one of those too. EDIT - Was the catapult part of that set too? I remember having a blast with the Planet of the Apes catapult...
  14. Kudos to faster friends for the Northland pedigree copy of Marvel Team-Up #1 from this thread: MTU #1 Northland Sales Thread Great communication, safely packaged, quick shipping, etc, etc. A first-rate transaction. Thanks again, it was a pleasure doing business with you!
  15. I've had problems of this nature twice in all my years of collecting. The first time was with an eBay seller from Ireland, the second with a book from a boardie (Dale Roberts, I think). Both times, the books vanished into the Canada Post system only to end up being returned to the seller a few months later with no attempt at delivery. It's weird, but it does happen on occasion...
  16. That seems surprising... His three strikes have been spread out over a couple of years, and I thought it was three strikes in less than 12 months that made someone a candidate for a ban. I can see how the Mods would think a strike is appropriate, but I don't think there's any justification for a ban.
  17. How are the first two parts? I've read "the Man in the Iron Mask" portion, but I never seem able to find the other volumes at the library or bookstore when I think to look for them...
  18. That's a a very well thought out post. I knew about two of the strikes (the concocted story strike - headache and this one). To me, two strikes are not necessarily a pattern. 3 might be. I actually did not realize there was a third. Does anybody remember what it was for? Looking at his threads around that time, it seemed to be a strike reflecting cumulative violations (listing books already on eBay, spamming with multiple sales threads, etc.). Just reflects a few minutes of digging, may have been more to it than that but I do not recall specifics. Yeah, the first strike was for continually starting sales threads that violated guidelines. Over and over and over... I seem to recall there having been at least a half-dozen sales threads (probably more) that the mods closed down.
  19. Coincidentally, I just finished reading that over lunch. My wife borrowed the set from someone and couldn't put them down. I decided to give it a read, and quite enjoyed it.
  20. Agreed. PI's behaviour here wasn't up to the standards I expect of board members. However, I just wanted to make sure that people don't jump to conclusions about her eBay feedback. In the current eBay environment, there are lots of cases of feedback abuse from buyers. In fact, I almost expect to see all sellers with one or two negatives from buyers. I look for trends in negative feedback nowadays - repeated instances of damage, slow delivery, misleading descriptions, etc. before I make any judgements. The days of just looking for the 100% rating are over.
  21. Though to be fair, one neg and the neutral seem to be unjustified and from buyers who didn't read the auction descriptions. The neg for the cracked case has a big, bold, underlined notice that the case is cracked in the auction description. The neutral was from someone expecting a set of 7 items when she clearly indicated she was only selling a set of 3. It never seems fair to me that eBay can let buyers blame the seller for their own inability to read the description...
  22. Woo-Hoo! Another KOLer! Be sure to go back to the Altar of Literacy every so often and visit the Ghost of the English Language. I laugh to myself every time he tells me "Go forth, then, and avenge my death!" (thumbs u
  23. It's probably for the best. Without being privy to all the communication between the two of you, I get a strong feeling that the buyer is looking for a way out and is using the issue of duty as a stalking horse to cover buyer's regret.
  24. Ah... If you're looking to cancel the deal, he's provided the opportunity. If both buyer and seller agree to that, neither should end up on the PL. Seems pretty similar to the current AF15 fiasco over in general, in that sense (except no-one's been called a deadbeat yet).
