  1. yeah, that's what I concluded too based on the information presented. Who knows what happened all those years, the person consigning presumably didn't know they were stolen. Malvin

  7. My short answer is, where do you think my "ebay 1c No Reserve" auctions come from It's stuff that I buy that I think has upside either at cons, online or wherever. The longer answer is, I have done a few trades and they are tougher. As you can imagine, both sides have to value the trade material offered. I use to bring stuff to cons to sell/trade, but I don't think I have had much success (Im excluding stuff that was already bought and I was meeting someone at a con) I don't have a specific percentage allocated to buying stuff for resale vs. the collection. In general, if I think there is enough upside I would buy it regardless of my budget. As for whether or not its working.. hard to say, I tell my wife that the stuff I buy for my collection are funded from my 1 cent no reserve sales so there is no "real money" going into my hobby, but I think she knows that the math doesn't work but turns a blind eye Malvin
  8. Albert or his friend will probably post here, and all of us in his mailing list got it, but for those that were excluded, this just came out: Regarding the list of stolen artwork listed on my www.albertmoy.comGreat news! Through the efforts of Michael Finn/help4creators and my friends at Heritage Auctions, ten out of eleven pieces previously listed as stolen have now been safely recovered and returned to me. The only piece still missing and still listed as stolen is the Berni Wrightson Horror painting posted on my site. My heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Michael, Todd Hignite, Nadia and Joe Mannarino, Jim Halperin, Heritage Auctions, the Hartford, and everyone else in the comic art community who helped. I am appreciative of all the effort and time everyone has put forth during this long ordeal.
  9. I use to buy at Hakes more when it was more obscure, but I haven't noticed any bargains on stuff I know the past few auctions. Plus with their bidding increments (10% more) it might be a bargain at the current price but the next bid would negate that. Malvin
  10. was that the original Pooh? I thought it was a real bear that was a mascot for a Canadian Military unit that he later saw in a zoo? heh, if I am right (this is based on a Canadian Heritage moment commercial, something only fellow Canadians would know) I wonder how much that stuffed bear is worth? :P Malvin
  11. hmmm.. tough. He did say he want them so that is a commitment. I think a few days is fair, if you hear nothing in a week, I think most people would agree that it's fair to conclude they changed their mind but didn't tell you. If someone else asks about the same pieces, I would engage them and tell them about the first party and say if you don't hear back in a week from the original guy, it's theirs. Malvin
  12. I shouldn't weight in, and I'm not a lawyer, but I'm confused why Albert has to wait until he is "legally able" to make a statement. What situation could cause that? Malvin
  13. heh, there was a piece that I marginally wanted, and i would have swung to a want if I made an offer (that was accepted) and applied the 15% off coupon. However, I was worried that the offer would be accepted after the coupon will expire, so I decided to not bother Malvin
  14. ha ha, I asked the seller what a thrid party authenticator was, and he replied saying DC doesn't have in house authenticators so they need a 3rd party. Then I said why is it spelled thrid and if something that simple is spelled wrong, what else could be wrong. He then replied that he has seen COA with worse errors and I can buy with confidence. That was a few days ago, then today he sent me this: "After you brought it to my attention that there was a typo on the COA I contacted DC Comics and they responded by sending me a new COA which is now posted on the listing Also if you are interested please email me "
  15. I love those issues, but the other problem is that Maleev did most of his work digitally, so there is little OA to be had. Malvin
  16. All I can say is, I'm still waiting for my Kaluta and it's a slap in the face when he completes new commissions while Kickstarter pieces are still outstanding Malvin
  17. That's a good point. We should all ask the seller that. Malvin
  18. I don't think we need to waste Adam or Alison's time on this. Malvin
  19. My vote is no. That COA is hilarious Malvin
  20. I did not sell my collection to buy original art, but at my peak, I had about 30 longboxes that were stored at my parents basement (my old room). When they sold their place to downsize, I had to purge since I had no intention of paying for storage for comics. I kept about 6 boxes of truly special comics, and the rest, I first sold the significant ones locally on craigslist (I think I only got $1 or $2 each canadian doing that) and when I was down to my last 10+ boxes, I sold it to a local guy in bulk who attend shows, I think I probably got 50 cents each at that point. Please note that these are mostly modern books. I didn't sell to buy OA, but considering how much OA I buy regularly, you can probably draw a line that shows that cash went towards OA Malvin
  21. Buying OA based on "key events" is always risky, especially if you do it before the event and essentially speculate on the significance of the event. Even buying OA after the event is risky if the "event" is the sole reason for the premium. I recall a few years ago Spiderman revealing his identity was a very big deal, and McNiven priced those pages high (as it is his right). Someone did buy those pages (not sure if he paid the asking price) but that was event "undone" later and if the buyer paid the asking price, he would be lucky to recover 20% of what he paid if he was going to sell them.
