The rest of the is book nice but will need a clean and press for any grading. That said with just the center fold detached the book isn't going to get more than a 7.0 There also seems to be a 3"-4" crease near the spin. All said I think the book would be in the 6.0-6.5 range.

Tanning is only a factor in higher grade copies and even then they might only take off a .2 or .5 and list the pages as OW to Cream. Once you start getting into the 7.0 and lower grades spine ticks, tanning and other small problems are just part of the over all grade. If a book has a 6" crease does it really matter if it has a dozen spine tick? not really the crease is the issue bring down the book. At least that's how I grade.

I would leave as is unless there a lot of soiling or you just wamt it to looks it's best or are planing to slab. But other then those reasons a I don't see point in spending the money on cleaning/pressing

The corner crease on the cover are the main issues ,about 1"-2" on fount cover right side corners, there's also a crease on the back top left corner but that might be fixable if its not color braking, hence the 6.0 - 6.5. The spine issues while noticeable don't really detract from a book in this range, it's already baked into the grade, as it were.

Would have to say 3.5 maybe 4.0 Damage is age and storage related not pest related.

I would say 9.4 Looks like there is a small crease on the lower left front cover.

Do you have a better picture of the back cover? From what I can see I would say 9.0 - 9.2

It's a 9.4, maybe a 9.6

I would say 6.0 - 6.5

As is I would say in 9.0 - 9.2 After a cleaning and pressed I'd be confident in saying 9.4 to 9.8 is possible

I think I've had this book since about 1990 when I started collecting as a kid. Picked it up from a back issues box for maybe $10 at the time. It has been graded (CGC-SS Chris Claremont) and I'll post the results in a couple of days. But in the mean time have fun grading, see if you can guess that correct grade. The book was pressed after the photos where taken so take that into account before grading.

It's what's called a printer fold/crease. It shouldn't have any effect on the final grade as that's how the book was produced out of the printing machine.

Hello, I have a question on how the condition of holo-foils on covers affects the grading. I have a ASM 356, that in great condition for sure NM quality (IMO). However the holo-foil has scratching on it, best I can tell is it's production/shipping related and not from handling as the rest of the book is scratch free. How would this affect the grading of a book, especially if they are production related? I've seen a lot of ASM 365s with similar scratching or buff marks even distorted hole-images but I don't know if its a know production problem or not or just the effects of ageing.

Any idea how this happens? It looks like there might have been something on the printing plate or on the page. Also it kinda make me wish this cover had been make in a Ivory and gold edition at the time

I've seen books with missing colors or pigment but this is a first that I've seen missing a color like this; What would have caused this? how would it affect the grading, if at all?

Hello, I've just started using CGC in the last 4 month, and I have been happy with the quality of the slabs and the customer service and even the pricing on the grading is resonable. However your shipping options and prices are disappointing to say the least if not out right crazy. I understand cross-border shipping can be more expensive but when the cost to ship a free small shipping kit is almost 5x the cost of the item something is wrong, to say nothing of the fact that shipping books back and forth can cost 25% or more of the fee to grade the books. I know we're not the biggest market but there are so many LCS and Collectors here who don't bother to grade for that reason alone or use the "un-named" service which has a Canadian submission office. Please is there any plan for setting more reasonable shipping cost to Canada or even opening a local Canadian Shipping office?

Only in the sense that I would not have purchased the book at all if I had been a bit more diligent.

I bought this without seeing the damage on the back. It's for my personal collection, not a flip and I don't think I'd slab it, also it was less then $50. But it's still a disappointment as I don't think I would have picked it up if I knew about the missing piece. What would you grade it and do you think I over payed?

I disagree, I can only see 1 maybe 2 colour breaking ticks the rest are not colour breaking. I'd willing to bet good money on that it's no lower then an 9.6

Sorry about the flash. I think there's some potential to press up to a high grade. The book is held back by two water marks on the back, each about of a 1/3 the size of a dime.
