When You Are Given a Captain America 1
Sillydiabetic replied to Sillydiabetic's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Guys, I used to laugh at PG books, and Incomplete books, but I suddenly have a responsibility I am not prepared for. Please, help the future of this sad but historic piece of our past. I need guidance, honestly. I’m not going to pretend to be King of the Hill. I love comics but this is beyond experience. Please, if one of the really experienced admins or someone with a solid past with this type of book. Check my stats, I’m not brand new, and I participate, but not in this sandbox. . Any practical advice will be greatly appreciated. I’m talking storage, condition issues (it pleasantly smells of maple syrup, which is what seems to have spilled on it), should they be split, submitted, etc. Thanks in advance. jimi -

When You Are Given a Captain America 1

One of my favorite things about this is the fact that they had to mark it down to eight cents to move it off the shelf! -
I purchased a lot yesterday. I was told that there was a page from Cap America 1 included in a folder, thrown in because it wasn’t “worth much”. I was excited to have a piece of history, but imagine the look on my face when I pulled this out from between a few pages of CA 1!

Certainly not! I’ve been working at buying this collection for over a year. Someone beat me there though - the ASM 129 and 238 were already gone. The fellow these (mostly currently) belong too has mentioned to me that he didn’t buy them in a day, so he won’t sell them in a day. Makes sense. He is a little slow with pricing things - usually I go through a section, pull the issues I really want, and leave them til next time to take home, giving him time to price them out. It’s a strange and unsettling feeling. The Beast of Koba Bay is still at his house, hopefully coming home with me in a few weeks, with about 150 other choice books.

I’m pretty familiar with most series, but westerns and war never caught my attention. There are plenty of Jonah Hex in there - any suggestions on keys to grab?

Some of the highlights of books picked up today from a local guy, some pretty decent stuff at a really decent price. These from a “collection” as shown in the last photo. It’s a hoot to be the first to dig through these. Check that MS Cap Marvel variant!

PGM Wonder Woman (1942 series) #200
Sillydiabetic replied to Crose87420's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Clean that beauty up, give ‘er a press, I’m thinking 6.5 easily. -

Tell us your dirty little comics secrets. I'll start...
Sillydiabetic replied to DavidTheDavid's topic in Comics General
So dirty secrets eh? It may be time to get this one off of my chest. I had a decent collection going in the early nineties, and of course read all the issues I owned. One evening I decided to pull out my really nice copy of ASM 300. It was already a “big book” back then - it was thirty whole dollars! The story seemed to be off, kinda didn’t make sense. I usually had no problem following a storyline. I suddenly convinced myself that it was a defective book, or wrongly hailed as a big deal, and decided to purge it from my collection. Ripped it straight in half. The next day, I remembered what had happened, and realized that my blood sugar had been really low, and comprehension flies out the window sometimes…. -
The grade is in: Hulk 181
Sillydiabetic replied to travizb's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Oh, for certain. That back cover especially would benefit from some cleaning, and the press would make the front a lot sharper. -
PGM - Marvel Spotlight 5
Sillydiabetic replied to Barth's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
I’m thinking you’re around a 7.0 as is, with a clean and press (which would help with that white left edge to get centered), you’re probably headed to 8.0-8.5 territory. Nice score! -
Could easily get to 3.0-3.5 territory with a press and clean.

I guess I’ll be the bad guy and propose closer to a 5.5-6.0 range.

This is the only ten center I have that’s an actual super hero book. Picked it up earlier today and have a whole new level of appreciation for the earlier days. 1947!

What's new in your Silver Age collection this week
Sillydiabetic replied to Silver's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
Just brought these (and a few others in the low 200’s) for way under market value. I didn’t expect to find so many Bat-Keys in one stack! -
Umbrella Academy NN Blue 9.6 w Store Stamp
Sillydiabetic replied to Sillydiabetic's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
Yeah, that’s kinda what I feel should be the case. I sure as heck wouldn’t trade out for a green all things considered. -

Were they submitted at the same time? -
Hey gang, I came across this book while moving some stuff around, I forgot that I had it frankly. Are there other examples of a stamped FCBD NN issue with blue labels? It’s kinda cool if you ask me.

Just added these two to my collection. They’re dirty right now, but I’ll get ‘em looking proper before the week is through. I have wanted an Avengers 57 for a long time, it’s good to get one for the wall.
