  1. These old photo threads are my absolute favorite theads.......I just love them. I am going to go to the University Library some day and try to find a bunch of old pics of newstands with comics. I wonder if some of you in big cities like New York, Chicago, and the like could contact the older larger newspaper companies and see if the have old stock photos of such wonderfull time capsules. Paul
  2. It looks to be another Action 35. Also, I was able to ID the Liberty magazine from march 1941 and the Movie Story from April 1941. This fits into the Comics dates. Those background comics lend greatly to the whole picture being an original. I actually never considered that it was not origional. To me its fun to dream about such things, and the idea of it being fake or real doesn't matter as I know these exisisted all over the country. That part along with a picture(fake or real) is the enjoyable fantasy for me. Paul
  3. These pics are so cool! I was able to identify all but one: (left to right) Hit 11 Big Three 2 Champ Comics 13 ? World's Best 1 Superman 10 Action 35 All Star Comics 4 Master Comics 13 Blue Beetle 6 What about the Batman 4 on wall (look above gumball machine) and another aciton don't know what number just above that. Paul
  4. Here is where I found the pics. http://kleefeldoncomics.blogspot.com/2008/02/newsstand-photos.html
  5. I found these, one is the pic that started thread and the other is a little later but has some great books, I believe if I read correctly same newstand.
  6. I love that cover! Its really one of my favorite early Tec's. Nice pick up!

  8. I'd bet Peter(Silver Surfer) would spring top dollar for that book. Very, very nice Mike, Congrats Paul
  9. As to the Hardest issues of Cap to find??? Here are my choices. 4-tough, doesn't come up for sale much(Schomburg cover) 16-can be found, but you will pay big 20- never see hardly at all, and rarely in grade 22-just don't see it much for sale 24-is another fairly tough book to find 26-is around, but highly competitive market for that cover same with the next issue 28 29-try finding one for sale in VG or better, doesn't come up for sale much 32-Paratrooper cover, rarely seen for sale 1 or twice a year if lucky 37-39 are tough, but money will get you one 46- Gonna be hard to find, gonna cost you plenty 47-tough above 6.0 61-Presumption its tough to find, but I seam to always find one for sale...at premium, but still available 70-take it when ever you find it and upgrade later maybe the toughest to find. 74-not as scarce as Gerber and guide would leave to believe, but still tough 75-actually is collected by pre-code horror guys, and you don't see it above 5.0 much 76-78-not to bad to find at double guide in GD or worse, but solid VG or better...get out of here, the toughest Atlas books you can't find in grade. Well there is my Market report for Cap, all the above is based upon unrestored books
  10. is this one hard? Well Mr. Parker, I cant speak for everyone, but yeah your book makes me hard! (you love to show that thing off, don't you???)
  11. Kud's to Divad for a Avengers 93 and super fast shipping.
  12. Thanks Paul. I've been looking at Caps since I started buying GA a whopping 8 months ago. Glad I finally pulled the trigger. I think once I have it in my hands I'm really going to appreciate it..................and immediately want another one! That my friend is so true, Timely's are the most addicting comics I have ever collected....bar none! They also have given me more joy collecting then any other runs or individual comics. Congrats!

  16. and how well we knew he was stoked; we were getting a clock elapsing play-by-play that put apollo missions' ground control to shame. all while i was trying to concentrate on poker. i think we were happier that he won that he was because he finally shut up. but it is a beauty, isn't it? I can't wait to see it Rick. What a great book! And very few are unrestored. Sure is a pretty 8.0 to boot!!
  17. I was thinking the same thing! (thumbs u I like Mystic #8 too. Revisiting this 9.4 copy I posted 5 years ago! West The good thing about my 6,5 Mystic 8 is no holes in the spine. Yeah, what's up with that? Does it fit snugly in a binder? This scan is of a xerox that was hole-punched for my comic binder. West What I do (when I want to put xerox covers in a binder), is just print copies of scans I want, and then put them into sheet protectors, install in a Binder and Wah-Lah!!! I have about twenty such Binders filled with scans and divided into publishers and or comics. Some that I have for example: Centaur binder with info about scarcity, artists, cover scans, etc. also have Planet Comics, Timely,Pre-Hero Marvels such as JIM, ST,TTA & TOS. I have a lot more but the idea is you can complete some titles that Gerber did not in his Photo Journals, plus have FULL PAGE SCANS with added info to each issue so it's available at your fingertips!!! Sounds very cool, but you must have a lot of time on your hands.....can you make me one
