  1. I've seen CGC give books with that length crease a 5.0. But maybe a 5.5/6.0 on a good day.

It's not always about the technical grade. I'd buy 5.0s and 6.0s that looked like this book all day long.

Would you be willing to pay multiples of what the book is worth?

I believe that the point is that you can't decide what a book is worth solely on the technical grade. There's more to it than that. Sure it's a consideration but worth or value isn't that one-dimensional. That would be analogous to saying that two houses with the same square-footage side-by-side on the same street should be worth the same price regardless of any other factors like finish or curb appeal. I can tell you that it doesn't work that way. Value is whatever two people, a buyer and a seller, agree to in an at-arms-length transaction.

But why offer it to other board members 4-5x the value of the book? This isn't Ebay

  2. I wonder if daken will be back? :wishluck:

Do you think he will return from his verbal spanking? (shrug)

Man, that would be awesome. He is this board's living embodiment of COME AT ME BRO.

You would have liked Muscleshark and Capfreek.

I just deleted that Muscleshark Memory Badge I had created just recently too.

    :ohnoez:

    I do still have it.

  3. hm I must of missed the poll or vote that nominated you boss of the Probation thread. Was there ever a vote? if so i must of missed it :makepoint:

There was no poll that nominated me "boss of the Probation thread." But I can certainly express my observation. And I can take action if I feel it is really valid.

Is anything I said in my post you quoted incorrect?

Do you think this particular thread is unique on the boards because it expressly impacts the reputations and even existence of fellow forumites? Because it is a vehicle to help recover either money or product to forumites who have been *spooned* over? Or is it just another fun and game thread?

There are a ton of threads to joke, cajole, barb etc here. Why can't this one be left for what it was intended for?

UPDATED PROBATION LIST ONLY - no discussions hm

  4. I wonder how many posts on this comics forum have anything to do with comics.

    hm

Well first it is not a comics forum: it is a Coin and Comics forum (as well as the WC).

But this particular thread impacts people's reputations and also impacts sales/buys. It is different from holding an opinion on what comic book began the Bronze Age or what the difference is between pre-code and Golden Age.

It is designed (or WAS designed) to provide information on deals that went bad, why they went bad, and who is ultimately responsible for those circumstances. It is a VERY different thread than an "opinion" thread.

Within this forum, reputations are on the line. Much different than "Can Hulk beat Superman" or "What is the best 1970's Glam Band?"

  5. Whoa!

No whoa. Anyone trying to navigate this thread is in for too much drekitude. This is supposed to specifically about people who are being nominated for the PL/HOS. It is not the Water Cooler but it looks more and more like the water cooler.

I am composing a PM to Arch now. He may reject it because, and I know this from moderating other message boards, things can get too much.

This is supposed to be for discussing CANDIDATES FOR THE PL/HOS. I signed on tonight after just a few hours and saw 30 (thirty) new posts of Water Cooler level. This is not a new thing.

I read people saying they try to check this thread out but it is just too unwieldy.

We have some forumites here who are gung-ho to put someone on the PL or HOS but at the same time they trash this thread to hell.

The superfluous posts should be in the General Discussion thread. But people cannot resist trashing this thread.

    "Whoa"???

hm I must of missed the poll or vote that nominated you boss of the Probation thread. Was there ever a vote? if so i must of missed it :makepoint:
  6. S-man, if you want to try and complete the transaction lmk. And we can see if we can.

My words were choosen poorly when regarding real life and mistrust. I am going to do the best I can to work thus out with ALL THOSE I had pending stuff with if they would choose to.

I have never handled death well. And this was the hardest thing I have ever and continue to deal with.

Pm me, or email me if you want to try and work things out.

    Joe.

:golfclap: ... that should make them all happy sir.

I suggest giving him a chance to resolve this with S-Man, rather than ridicule him and causing this transaction not to be completed.

    :wishluck:

So I extended the olive branch with a PM to tell him the offer is still on the table if he wants and got this as an answer:

I will have to talk a look at my finances after I get paid, and see if those are amounts I can afford right now.

Nine minutes after receiving that, I then got this in the same PM:

GoodAsh has removed themself from this topic.

And with that, I am done playing games with this guy. The deal is null and void and the book will be offered at some point again on the boards.

Wow! He's a tool, you did the right thing.
  7. Just wanted to share this in the probation forum! Looks like some people will sell to anyone

So if the assumption is a 9.8 would go for $500, what would a 9.6 example sell for?

The only thing that link shows is that a 9.6 isn't worth $250

Someone will pay it sooner or later or somewhere near that price....I'd pay $300 to $400 for a 9.8

daken2626 (added 10/14/11) hm Shouldn't you pay off what you owe first? You are on the porbatian list for a reason.

I just completed a transaction with BeachBum that went extremely well so you can kiss my ...that list does not mean mess to me

so another member sold to someone on the probation list? How do we know you competed a transaction with him? Pay off what you owe

  10. . It's the same comic (at least if it hasn't been pressed, which is true to the seller's claim) that's been graded twice. It is a 9.0 AND a 9.4. In other words, it IS exactly the same comic that it WAS. Problem is, the seller only chooses to disclose the higher graded circumstance to maximize the perceived value of the comic. .

Not to be disrespectful....but this makes zero sense to me.

The seller is showing the grade the book has on it right now. That's the grade of the book from CGC. That's CGC's opinion of the book right now. It's an opinion, and it has been shown that opinions as to grade and page quality can and do change over time.

If this book was sold in 1975 it might have attained a FN/MT grade from any of a dozen major sellers...and that would not be incorrect since it was their opinion of grade.

If you are interested in the grade the book "used to be" I am pretty sure it "used to be" a 9.8 when it rolled off the press

Under your logic the seller should mention that this book was most likely a 9.8 or better at one time, right?

That's why the section in bold makes no sense.

    Great post :applause:
  11. there are polite ways to ask for the information you are referring to. In fact, asking in thread if the books are pressed or sending a PM would be examples of such. Then there are attention seeking, shaming, or lashing out ways to gather the same information. The comments made by Namisgr certainly had that feel to me :P

I posted information, I wasn't seeking it. The issue is integrity in our marketplace. I've sent private messages to the seller in the past requesting that he consider being more upfront with information he has about his offerings, such as if they came from pedigree collections but are no longer noted as such on the label.

What you did was wrong. You had no business doing what you did..
  12. Who else has been selling PGX slabs? Allegedly.
    linky dink

You are mine you little, bitty troll.

First I don't see this as trolling, I see that he busted you and you are upset. Wow that sounds like a threat on your part.

Let's not take this too far off point there, 8milemax. These two have been going after each other with little mouse daggers for quite some time now, prodding one another playfully.

And when Rupp had his second sales thread and folks were still stating they were all PGX books (and looked just like the Iron Man books), I asked him via PM for scans, which he provided. Every book was a CGC slab.

    I stand corrected

  13. And for those who think I belong I would like to see your reasoning why.

I think neither you nor Trey belong on the PL.

I think Trey was bypassing the first Sales Guideline by knowingly selling a PGX book. He furthered that by not revealing it was a PGX book.

To my mind that is an offense that goes beyond the PL.

To quote the PL rules themselves:

The following Board Members are currently on "Probation" for failure to complete a Marketplace Forum transaction in good faith after one month's time.

That did not happen. As even Watson agrees, the transaction itself was not the issue.

Earlier I suggested that 3 attempts to sell a non-GC book would result in an HOS vote.

I would like to amend that to 2 attempts. One warning and on the 2nd occasion an HOS vote can be initiated.

One of the other rules in the PL is that someone can be removed from the PL if the two parties can come to an agreement. What you did wrong was make that almost impossible by deslabbing the book and keeping it for yourself...until the feedback issue came up.

As I also said earlier, how many times have we gotten on someone's case for buying from Robo? And when the person admits they did not know about Robo they are usually told that by buying form him they help him continue his methods.

I see no difference here. Buying from Trey, realizing it was a PGX book, saying nothing about it and cracking it out for yourself : that is allowing him to continue selling non-CGC books undisclosed

The PL also states, in order to get off the list:

If the accused makes full restitution to the satisfaction of the accuser, the accused will be removed from the PL.

    .

What restitution are you entitled to? What happened in the transaction you did not agree with? You obviously agreed to a PGX book by cracking it out and putting it in a mylar for your collection rather than returning it.

Basically both you and Trey have screwed the Probation List seven ways from Sunday.

If thats the case, why did divad ad trey to the list?
