  1. No.๐Ÿ˜‚I worked my off for 13+ years and now that I actually work work I take 5% out of my pay check for things I enjoy like my guitars or comics! my grandparents gave me $100 for my birthday EACH! That's $400. Plus I would rack leaves, shovel snow, cut grass basically all year long and I would do it over and over and over again for $40 bucks and for 13 years it adds up. I would do as many houses a week that would want me! I would take home about $160-$320 a day and I would go further and further out making new clients. And during the summer I would cut grass and do yard work! Open pools! Etc so it adds up! Also my dad sold some of his collectables to help fund me Early on in my hobby and supported me! And I would not spend money on things I did not need like drinking, drugs or anything else a 22 year old would spend money on. I have some friends who spend hundreds a week on just drinking and partying.
  2. I agree but it's pretty indirect but it's the best solution to a popular problem and so far it's been paying off really well! ๐Ÿ˜‚ When there's a will there's way! I would assume space x will fall under the same guide lines as a military contractor due to them using some of NASAs technology and members for engineering and development! I would be lying if I said I knew exactly but that's best everyone could come up with on reddit!
  3. I just turned 22 last October! And I may have different views from my peers that doesn't mean I don't suffer from the last generations issues. Millennials made sure that everyone (Gen Z) now has 15 feet of soft cushions for everything. I thought by going to college I would experience real life to get ready for it but at every turn I have to be worried about what I say so I don't get expelled and black listed. It's hard to experience the real world when everywhere I go basically has training wheels on it and after high school I realized this is wildly_fanciful_statement ๐Ÿ˜‚ am just venting now anyway and yes I only joined last month ๐Ÿ˜‚
  4. So I guess it's like Eric Clapton talking about Robert Johnson. He said if the person is not a lover of music then he would never talk about him or listen to him! I guess it should be the same for comics
  5. I agree I am on spring break and I couldn't agree with you more
  6. True and I know it's a private company but you can buy stocks that Space X uses which basically means its space x. Example you can buy stock in the company where they get their electronical hardware, where they get the metals, what type of metals so am investing into space X because every time they do a test flight or try something new or even talk about it those things from those companies. IE. Like Raytheon a military contractor who specializes in computer systems. Which happens to be the same used by space x. It's like you can not buy stock from Koenigsegg directly (car company) but you can buy where he gets his materials from and when they release a new car it goes up in price. Here's an example

  8. Thank you and I sincerely deeply appreciate it! Am glad to see people like you in the hobby and thank you for leaving a comment!
  9. I agree! I also do stocks, precious metals (I would look at palladium)! I also just have money sitting in the bank but as it turns out my comic book Collection is one that is worth more then my stock (only about $30k~ since 2014, like Tesla, apple, google, space x and etc). And I did not even plan it to have a Collection worth that much!
  10. I agree after taking a step back on the situation! I appreciate you taking the time and helping out another collector!
  11. That you for the overwhelming Support from the community! I really do appreciate you taking the time!
  12. Yeah I am taking that advice! Someone else also pointed it out! I never realized it since I don't really have any guy friends due to my strong beliefs and stands on situations. I get along better with my female friends and they act more like guys then my guy friends. All my guy friends have drama but with my female friends I have none ๐Ÿ˜‚ and I agree with what you said. I appreciate you taking the time to tell me that!
  13. Yeah I know! It's crazy! And I think about it in terms of this! If I don't love the character, love the cover or love the story I would rather have something else and I got all the keys (becasue I can't afford anything else ๐Ÿ˜‚Yeah I know! It's crazy! When I was younger I racked leaves, shoveled snow and cut grass basically all year $40 bucks a house and I would do every house around my block that I can over and over again! Plus I would get $100 from each of my grandparents and it adds up. I never bought lunch and I never spend money on things I did not need! I work a part time job while I go to college full time so I really can't compete with big time collectors but when I see some of my friends spend hundreds of dollars a week just on drinking and weed. I fell like my money is going the little longer way!
  14. No am not Jewish ๐Ÿ˜‚ for my birthday I would get $100 each from each of my grandparents! Plus my dad would help me out by selling something from his collection like a coin! And he helped me fund my hobby! I am grateful that he gave up his hobby for me.also I would rack leaves for $40 bucks a house, I would also shovel snow for $40 bucks and during the summer I would cut grass etc! I would never buy lunch at school and saved and saved.took my dad's advice and we'll tada! I mean it took blood sweat and tears to get half a short box of books that are keys and 13 years of collecting. Instead of going out to eat or going to blow money I just saved and spent it on books I knew had some value to it!
  15. Well yeah those books will always be serious keys! I only have a half a small box of keys like Avengers 1, tales to astonish 27, Detective Comics 45 (first Joker story in detective), strangle tales 89, X men 6, Avengers 4, avengers 47-48, fantastic four 47-49, the eternals 1-19 (5 copies of 1) etc so I can't really compete with books like those but I get what I can afford ๐Ÿ˜‚
  16. thank you I appreciate it! And That's very true ๐Ÿ˜‚ depressing but true
  17. I know people who have over $100k in comic books that they spend thousands on yearly... It does matter too someone you know? It does matter to me but since I have more then one investment area. However, if one collectables goes down then the faith in the others will go down as well... I learned that in my Economic class about investments outside the stock market. It was pretty interesting! I would look into getting into palladium since it's used in electric cars for their emissions (when you plug it into the outlet it acts as a conductor) and it has a higher burning threshold then others used in tesla's and such!
  18. I agree 100% I have some keys like ASM #129, avengers #1, tales to astonishing #27 and a few others but when it comes to Golden age I realized I had an easier time selling my Action Comics #66 (Japanese WWII cover) then I did selling my Werewolf by night #32 and it was below the average price for an 6.0.... Same with my Black Terror #7 sold that book within 2 days and then couldn't get rid of my New Mutants 98 cgc 9.8 I got right before the first movie and it was also below the average price... I just find it odd guess am an odd one out but
  19. I love anything Schomburg I also love anything Fred Ray, or Jack Burnley plus am on a college budget so I get what I can get and find that I am looking for with realistic goals! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Wonder comics, Black Terror, Exicting Comics, Thrilling Comics basically all Nedor books are now going up in price becasue I know some kids my age who can't afford any timely books so they get what they can afford that's Schomburg. And some of his work is still Beautiful on Nedor books! Sadly I noticed marvel keys after the movie comes out drops like flies... It's kinda sad that it's all spec untill it's over and then it drops. I have ASM 129, Avengers #1 and Tales to astonish #27 so I have some keys but my Collection is mainly Golden age books! ASM 300 sadly is a book that will go up and down with time.. after the venom movie it dropped which doesn't give me too much hope for the current prices
  20. I would honestly either buy Gold, stocks or Bitcoin.. and student debt I don't have any since I live in a state with amazing student benefits if you get good grades. So I pay $115 dollars a semester at John Jay and I don't dorm since Covid. And a house ๐Ÿ˜‚ $45k won't even be enough for a 2 year apartment the size of a bathroom๐Ÿ˜‚ so I see your point
  21. I do have about $30k~ in stocks mainly apple, tesla, google, and space x. (I bought Tesla, google, space x and apple back in 2014 with my dad's account I used my own money and now it's well through the roof, I have precious metals such as gold (my dad gave me some for graduation from High school 2 oz.) palladium (used in german cars for exhaust) when Volkswagen had that exhausted call back it made it go through the roof as well and now it's trending up. Since BMW is now being forced to use it in their electric cars for emissions safety. I also have about 14k just sitting in my bank account. But comic books turns out to be my biggest investment when it really never was planned to be๐Ÿ˜‚
  22. Thank you I really appreciate it! I realized some of those lessons back in high school during the 2016 election and more so after with the field I picked. It's harder for me to make guy friends since am very head strong in my views and beliefs which causes issues with people who get offended when I call them "dude" or "bro" so I usually hangout with my female friends and my girlfriend but yeah seriously though I do appreciate it! I will definitely give it a read! It's hard to live and understand real life (real work life) when where ever I go to learn about it has 15 feet of soft cushions to protect everyone from people who will hurt their feelings so I never experience reality and being the odd one out with a different mind set is fighting an up hill battle by it self I guess ๐Ÿ˜‚
  23. You know you are right. I never really thought about it more since I am usually a very head strong with my beliefs. And come to think of it I guess I am occupied with the investment side becasue for 1) I love seeing something I spend my hard money on get appreciated over time and it brings me joy (who wouldn't get joy out of it ๐Ÿ˜‚) 2) my dad said always buy things with the mindset of enjoyment and investment.
  24. (Disclaimer: I have other investments like stocks, gold so my money is not all tied up with just comics) As the direct market comes to a different place then it was years ago with lower sells and lower issues being printed. I find myself thinking that having $45k worth of books for enjoyment and investment for my future is not going to age well. I work at my local comic book store and I see people between the ages of 20-60 and those in the 40-60 age branch say that collecting for investment is a poor idea due to no one really caring about comics anymore. This media will go away like vinyls and cds and they recommended I sell off my Collection or consider collecting something more sustainable like Tesla stocks or Bitcoin. I buy books for the purr enjoyment of finding it and holding a book in my hands that has traveled for 20-80 years to get where it is now. How many people saw it and held it and read it or where it started life. The investment side only came to my realization when I graduated high school and found out my collection is worth now $45k (selling the books a fair price) if were to sell them on the high end I could MAYBE MAYBE get $58k-$60k as my math adds up (13 years of non stop collecting and books given to me by old collectors for screaming deals since they can not take them to their graves). I have a little over 120~ Golden age books mainly Action Comics, Superman, Timely, Nedor and classic WWII covers. Some are worth $150-$600 but mainly of them are worth in the thousands like Action Comics #44, Superman #23, #26 #32 or Marvel Mystery #48, #51 and #55 or Wonder Comics #3, #4, #6 or Batman or Zip comics or Americans best etc.. I also have around 1400~ Silver age, Bronze age books and some keys include ASM #129, Marvel spotlight #5, and Marvel special edition #15 and Avengers #4 etc. I have been collecting since I was 9 and my local comic store always hooked me up with the deals since he saw my eye light up like a Christmas tree. Now that am getting older just curious if any of you think the second hand market will fail or be killed off due to no new collectors.
