  1. In order to share their newfound passion, "picture-book" collectors took to the wires and formed telegraph forums to discuss all-things-Obadiah.
  2. Speculation ran rampant, as everyone caught "Obadiah" fever. Soon, about the only place you could get a copy was from a "picture-book" dealer. The dealers organized and held the first Obadiah Convention in 1843 out behind the Capital Feed and Seed store in Richmond, Virginia. Pictured here is the booth of the Nikolai Brothers from Boston.
  3. Demand for the "comic book" soon skyrocketed and enterprising kids were going door- to-door looking for copies to resell for up to 2 bits. As adults learned of the investment potential, they too wanted in on the action.
  4. The Adventures of Mr. Obadiah Oldbuck debuted in 1837 in Europe and when it was published in the U.S., it was a newpaper supplement that was translated into English. This picture format immediately caught the eyes of the younger readers and became an overnight sensation.

  12. Thanks for sharing. I think vintage paperbacks are great. Here are a few more Avons. Avon is definitely my favorite paperback publisher. Oh and welcome back!
  13. Inflation is not necessary for assembly, but what you do with your G9K in the privacy of your home is your business.
  14. Here is a sneak-peek of the prototype G9K coming off the presses. He will be a lifesize standup (about 6' tall). We are finishing up the marketing campaign and will be announcing the world tour next week.

  18. I've been picking up back issues from dealers when they come up for sale. I have about 13 of them now. It's a terrific magazine. I also enjoy Comic Art Magazine which is from the same publisher. Thanks for the tip! I just ordered one to check it out. (thumbs u
  19. I visit the Today's Inspiration blog from time to time. (thumbs u BZ, do you read Illustration Magazine? It is quickly becoming my favorite mag now that CBM is no longer being published. http://www.illustration-magazine.com/
  20. Disney also had their contraption, the Multi-plane camera that helped them add depth to their animations. I love this stuff.
  21. It's odd seeing that Rick allowed his cat to walk on his comics. He was always a stickler for buying comics in the very best condition. I also noticed that neither Rick nor the Collector's Bookstore bagged any of their comic books at that time. Cat owners are like that I've noticed. They let them walk all over everything. So unsanitary! I make my cat wash her hands before she reads any of my comics.
